The City of Pacifica is excited to host approximately seven (7) Summer Interns across multiple departments. This program is designed to provide students with substantive project experience, professional mentorship, and exposure to the inner workings of municipal government. Unlike a general internship pool, each department will recruit for a specific opportunity aligned with its operational needs and professional focus. 

About the Program

The Summer Internship Program was developed in collaboration with the Next Generation Committee, sponsored by the City/County Managers Associations of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. The program supports the development of emerging professionals and promotes careers in local government.

The Summer Internship Program is tentatively scheduled to run from June 15, 2026 through August 14, 2026 (8 weeks). End date may be adjusted based on the intern's schedule and availability.

Selected applicants will be invited to interview during a tentative window of March 23 – April 3, 2026, with flexibility as needed.

The City anticipates finalizing offers by April 24, 2026 to allow adequate time for summer scheduling and coordination. Internships are part-time (up to 25 hours per week), seasonal, at-will, and non-benefited positions.

About the IT Summer Intern Opportunity

The Information Technology (IT) Division supports the City’s technology infrastructure, cybersecurity practices, and digital service delivery across all departments. The IT Intern will gain hands-on experience in municipal technology operations, including systems support, hardware and software deployment, troubleshooting, and project-based technology initiatives. This internship is ideal for a student interested in pursuing a career in information systems, cybersecurity, network administration, or public sector technology. The intern will contribute to meaningful projects that enhance operational efficiency and service delivery throughout the organization.

Responsibilities May Include (but Are Not Limited To):

• Assisting with end-user technical support and help desk requests
• Supporting hardware and software installation, configuration, and maintenance
• Assisting with inventory management of IT equipment and assets
• Supporting cybersecurity best practices and internal compliance efforts
• Participating in system upgrades, testing, or implementation projects
• Assisting with documentation of IT procedures and workflows
• Supporting audio/visual setup for meetings and City events, as needed

Education & Experience:

• Current undergraduate student majoring in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field
• Coursework in networking, systems administration, cybersecurity, database management, or related areas preferred
• Prior technical support or internship experience is desirable but not required

Preferred Skills & Knowledge:

• Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking concepts
• Familiarity with Microsoft Windows environments and Office 365
• Interest in cybersecurity and data protection practices
• Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non technical users
• Organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

About the Administrative Services (ASD) Intern Opportunity

The Administrative Services Department (ASD) includes the City’s Finance, Information Technology (IT), and Human Resources (HR) divisions. Together, these divisions support the City’s internal operations by ensuring fiscal accountability, technological functionality, and effective workforce administration.

The ASD Intern will serve in a project management-focused role supporting departmental and cross-divisional initiatives. This internship is designed for a student who brings strong organizational skills, structured thinking, and demonstrated experience managing projects or coordinating complex assignments. The selected intern will assist with planning, tracking, documenting, and supporting implementation of strategic initiatives across ASD. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate seeking hands-on exposure to project coordination within a public sector environment.

• Strong interest in local government operations and municipal finance

Preferred Skills & Knowledge:

• Familiarity with project management principles (ie: planning, milestone tracking, documentation, deliverable management)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple projects or assignments simultaneously
• Analytical thinking and structured problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel proficiency strongly preferred)

ABOUT THE POSITION
Redwood City is known for delivering a large variety of high-quality special events year-round including concerts, festivals, cultural events, kids concerts, pop up recreational activities, and more. Salary

Child Care Aide: $16.50 - $19.50 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.  

Child Care Associate Teacher: $19.50 - $25.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.

 

CHILD CARE AIDE

This position will work directly with a Child Care Site Coordinator or Lead Teacher at varying pre-school or K-6/ K-8 school sites based on program needs. The Child Care Aide is responsible for leading activities and supervising small groups of children in State-funded Title V programs.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Ferry Mechanic performs preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, and modifications on structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and control systems found on ferry vessels and passenger terminals; performs related work as assigned. Responsibilities include record keeping and written verification of work accomplished.

Salary Range:  
Day Shift:               $56.32 per hour
Swing Shift:           $56.32 per hour + 10% differential pay
Graveyard Shift:    $56.32 per hour + 15% differential pay

Essential Responsibilities

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications.
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component.
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• References manufacturer schematics including blueprints, drawings and specifications to resolve maintenance issues.
• References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.
• Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed.
• Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used in the electronic maintenance system. 
• Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately where possible.
• Immediately reports to supervisor any potential maintenance problem or condition which could cause a possible schedule delay.
• Maintains all work areas, special tools and equipment used in performing maintenance function, in a clean and orderly manner.
• Operate a forklift and other equipment/vehicles safely.
• Interacts on a regular basis with vessel operations personnel.
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to job.

About the HR Summer Intern Opportunity

The Human Resources Division plays a central role in supporting the City’s workforce and organizational culture. The HR Intern will gain hands on exposure to public sector human resources operations, including recruitment, employee engagement, policy research, and organizational initiatives. In addition to supporting core HR functions – this intern will serve as the lead coordinator for the Summer Internship cohort experience. This opportunity is ideal for a student who is genuinely interested in pursuing a career in Human Resources or public administration and wants both operational and leadership exposure.

Responsibilities May Include (but Are Not Limited To):

• Assisting with recruitment efforts, including job postings, applicant tracking, and interview coordination
