San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS), Child and Youth Services https://www.smchealth.org/bhrs, provides a broad spectrum of Trauma Informed mental health and substance use services for children, youth, and families focusing on prevention, early intervention, and treatment of youth diagnosed as Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) and/or substance use disorders. We provide services through specialty teams, outpatient clinics, in schools, and field-based teams in Daly City, San Mateo, Half Moon Bay, Redwood City and East Palo Alto.

BHRS also provides services through a network of community agencies and independent providers who offer outpatient and wraparound services. BHRS supports treatment of the whole person to achieve wellness and recovery and to promote the health and well-being of the people, families, and communities we serve.

Additionally for Residential Youth Treatment at Canyon Oaks Youth Center, Community Care Licensing requires providers working in this facility to maintain 40 hours of annual training related to the field, most of which are provided by the facility. Clinicians will also need to be trained in Professional Assault Crisis Training model (Pro-Act) upon hire.

The Ideal Candidate will possess

• A current license as either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial diagnostic evaluation noting behavioral symptoms which may indicate organic and/or mental disorders in children and in interpersonal/ family dysfunctions related to child and adult patients/clients.

Job Description

Under general supervision, the 8562 Counselor, Juvenile Hall, is responsible for the care, custody, safety and welfare of juveniles detained at Juvenile Hall.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to: 

1. Observes behavior of detainees in an assigned living unit; directs detainees in the upkeep of personal hygiene, during mealtimes, and while cleaning the unit; maintains appropriate close supervision over detainees to prevent negative incidents; provides appropriate discipline; consults with supervisors regarding disciplinary problems; conducts regular state mandated security checks of rooms; monitors visiting sessions to ensure the safety and security of detainees and counselors.

2. Inspects windows, locks doors when not in use, and keeps count of all detainees assigned to the unit; administers emergency first aid pending the arrival of medical staff; responds to emergency conditions which may require physically subduing and restraining hostile detainees to ensure the safety and security of the unit and the facilities.

3. Completes incident reports, behavior reports, individual case reports, and other departmental forms and reports; maintains the unit log book to ensure adherence to legal requirements. Maintains and updates electronic databases and case management systems.

4. Conducts ongoing individual and group counseling sessions with detainees by communicating rules, policies, expectations, and consequences; listens and responds to questions, concerns, complaints, and requests; provides assistance in working out problems to assist detainees.

5. Directs leisure time activities; teaches and encourages good sportsmanship.

6. Transports residents to and from various locations; directs and controls residents’ movement to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

7. Facilitates the admittance and release process of residents.

8. Confers with departmental personnel and representatives of outside agencies.

Qualifications

Education:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

License and Certification:
Possession of a valid California driver license.
Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Substitution:
Experience as a counselor in a juvenile detention facility or experience involving the organization, detention, or suspension of youth groups in a recreational or correctional program may substitute for up to two (2) years of the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. One (1) year equals thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units.

San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Psychologist I/II-Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. 

There is currently one vacancy on the Central County Adult Mental Health Clinic team in San Mateo.

 

In this position, the psychologist will work as part of a dynamic, multicultural and multidisciplinary team, supporting our culturally diverse San Mateo residents who are diagnosed with a Serious Mental Illnesses and Co-Occurring Disorders.

This Psychologist will conduct admission assessments and evaluation, provide individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, case management, and rehabilitation services to a caseload of adults diagnosed with a serious mental illness.  The Psychologist will also support the psychology doctoral student program and the MSW/MFT graduated internship program at the clinic and provide students with supervision and provide clinical consultation. The Psychologist will work with the team in appropriate discharge planning and coordination of care with other community based organizations.
 
In this position, the psychologist will also administer psychological testing to a small number of clients referred from other BHRS Adult outpatient clinics.

The current vacancies are Regular vacancies and Extra Help vacancies. Future vacancies may include extra-help, limited term, unclassified, and regular classified positions.

Extra Help - Extra-help positions are short-term employment for up to 1040 hours which is equivalent to about six months; however, employment might end sooner depending on the needs of the hiring departments. Medical Services Assistants II who are assigned to the clinics and perform advanced patient care duties as defined in the classification specification shall receive a differential of 6.2% in addition to all other compensation.
 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Accurately take and record the condition, respiration, pulse, temperature and blood pressure of patients; record other pertinent information as observed or measured.
• Apply non-sterile dressings and administer non-medicated treatments under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, surgeon, podiatrist, nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
• Carry out rehabilitation procedures as directed by therapists; perform a range of motion body movement with/for patients; position and exercise patients.

Qualifications

Certification Requirement:
Possession of a Medical Assistant Certificate or a certificate of completion or degree from an accredited medical assisting program is required. A certificate of completion of an approved medical assisting program must be submitted at the time of application.

Bilingual Fluency:
Some positions may require bilingual skills. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required to be considered for a bilingual position.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is:

One year of experience in an outpatient clinic or doctor's office as a nurse's assistant or medical assistant.

Knowledge of:

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic high school students to train and work within our After School Sports Program as a flag football, volleyball, or basketball official. On game days, youth referees will be partnered with experienced officials that will provide training and mentorship. Youth officials will typically work two days a week. Game days and times are Monday through Thursday, from 3:45pm-7pm.

Official’s shirt, whistle, and training resources are provided. All training is provided by the Silicon Valley Sports Officials Association. Training dates will vary based on sport and season and will include classroom and hands-on instruction.

Flag Football and Volleyball Training Season - APPLICATIONS DUE BY AUGUST 1

• Training - Mid-August – September
• League games begin the last week of September – second week of November

Basketball Training Season - APPLICATIONS DUE BY SEPTEMBER 15

• Training - Mid-September - November
• League Games begin the first week of December – third week of March

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Attendance at all training sessions
• Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of assigned sport program.
• Officiate After School Sports scrimmages and games.
• Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.
• Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with coaches, participants, and parents contacted in the course of work.
