The City of Belmont Parks & Recreation Department is recruiting for the position of Recreation Leaders for Summer 2026. If you are an energetic candidate who has proven abilities to engage the youth and teen population and want to make a positive difference in their lives, this is the position for you!

Recreation Leader Requirement 

• Must be age 15 or older by June 1, 2026.
• Must be available for paid training June 10 - June 12, 2026.
• Must be available for 2026 summer camp season June 15 - August 7, 2026.
• Camp closed Friday, July 3 for the Holiday.

Recreation leaders will

• Work with campers ages 4 ½ to 13 years of age.

• Be able to work any assigned shift with varying hourly schedules (Monday-Friday).

• Participate in pre-summer training sessions, camp set-up and clean-up.

• Lead games, songs, arts & crafts, sports, and large group projects all summer long.

• Be outspoken and demonstrate good role model to the staff and campers.

• Be enthusiastic and enjoy working outdoors and being with children.

• Come with ideas for summer activities and a willingness to participate and lead activities.

• Provide guidance, support, and motivation to all campers.

• Communicate with guardians of campers, providing updates where required and answering questions about camp.

Recreation Specialist I/II (Group Leads) $22.94 - $30.66

This is a part-time position.  Hours will range from 19 to 37 hours per week with no weekend shifts.

Program hours are M, T, Th, F PM 2:00pm – 5:30pm and Wed. 1:15pm – 5:30pm Approximately 15 – 20 hours a week.

• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and children. 
• Possess strong leadership skills in one or more of the following areas: art, crafts, sports, drama, cooking.
• Manage the task of checking in and checking out each child to the proper guardian.

• Encourage active play, read books and provide a safe and nurturing environment.
• Implement and lead appropriate activities for 1st – 5th grade aged children.

As an After School Program Director, you would provide leadership and supervision of elementary aged students as a positive role model in their afterschool program. You will plan and execute age appropriate arts, crafts, or activities daily to keep students engaged through program duration.

DEFINITION: This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator and/or Supervisor managing Youth Programs. This position involves a high level of management, coordination, curriculum development and customer service. As an Afterschool Program Director at Old Mill Elementary School, you will plan and coordinate the daily activities for K-5th grade program attendees on-site at the school. You will be responsible for organizing and implementing daily projects and activities, overseeing staff, and communicating with parents. This position requires a commitment to 2025-2026 school year. Program hours are M, T, Th, F from 2:20pm – 5:30pm and Wed. From 1:30pm – 5:30pm Approximately 20-25 hours a week.

Village Park Preschool Program

Village Park Preschool is a play-based preschool program offered by the City of Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department at Village Park. We offer 3 programs: Lil’ Sprouts (2 year olds), Cottage Kids (3 year olds), and Afternoon Owls (3 year olds).  The emphasis of the program is physical, social, and emotional growth in a child-centered environment. Activities are designed to foster a healthy child that develops an early love of learning. Village Park Preschool programs strive to create an environment inspiring each child’s individual creativity and self-expression. Children participate in arts/crafts, music, body movement, basic science, cognitive games, creative/dramatic play, cooking, circle and story time, fine and gross motor skill building, and phonics awareness.

Preschool Teacher

The City of Burlingame is looking for an energetic, caring, creative, and responsible Preschool Teacher. Under direction of a Recreation Supervisor, the Preschool Teacher plans, schedules, and organizes preschool classes for the City’s Village Park Preschool program, assures policies and procedures are maintained, and performs related work as required.

Essential Duties

• Plan, organize, and implement activities that support early childhood education and socialization
• Lead a variety of activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, story time, music/singing activities, science, cooking, early writing skills, and interactive circle time
• Ensure proper safety precautions are observed
• Maintain and care for supplies, equipment, and the facility
• Report any supply requests and facility maintenance needs
• Set up daily snack, change diapers and support toilet training
• Help with preparation of monthly newsletter
• Complete assigned paperwork, including timecards and incident and accident reports
• Communicate regularly with parents and staff to disseminate information and build positive relationships
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

• Knowledge of early childhood education principles, curriculum development, and best practices.
• Completion of 24 units of Early Childhood Education.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Previous experience in a preschool or childcare setting is preferred.

Class Times:

• Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 9am-11:30pm (2 year olds)
• Tuesday/Thursday: 9:00am-11:30am (2 year olds)
• Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 8:45am-12:15pm (3 year olds)

Summer Camp (June 9-August 8)

• Monday- Friday: 9am-12pm (3-4 year olds)

• 8-20 Hours a week       
• Maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year  

Benefits: Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 Paid Sick Leave Benefit. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 24 hours per year. There is no cash value associated with the benefit. No other benefits are offered. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time. 

Salary: $25.48-$31.57 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
