ABOUT THE POSITION

There are currently two (2) vacancies in the department.  This is an excellent opportunity for two (2) motivated individuals looking to grow their career within a dynamic team of HR Professionals.  The Human Resources Technician provides generalist support for a variety of human resources functions. Of the vacancies, one (1) position will primarily support Recruitment and Selection, Class & Compensation, HRIS, and other areas of Human Resources Administration. The second position will support Benefits Administration, Onboarding, and Leave Management.  

Applications are being accepted for the position of Fire Courier (part-time/hourly) with the City of South San Francisco. This is a non-benefited, part-time/hourly position.

THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Fire Department provides its residents with service in fire suppression; first-responder and ambulance transport emergency medical services; hazardous materials response; urban search and rescue; marine rescue and fire prevention, investigation and public education. The Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City, plus an Emergency Operations Center and Fire Training Tower and is comprised of 92 dedicated staff members.

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION

The City of South San Francisco is seeking a dependable and service-oriented individual to join our Fire Department team as a Fire Courier. This essential role provides logistical support to ensure the operational readiness of all five City Fire stations and assists city-wide departments through reliable mail, materials, and records handling.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Provides logistical support to all five of the City’s Fire stations and departments by delivering essential supplies and materials to maintain operational readiness.
• Picks up, sorts, and delivers interdepartmental and USPS mail, packages, and materials to City departments and external entities; processes outgoing mail, meters postage, and maintains departmental records of postage use.
• Assists in maintaining and retrieving City records from storage, ensuring timely delivery to appropriate departments.
• Operates a City vehicle safely and efficiently during daily tasks.
• Uses handcarts and lifting devices to transport materials as needed.
• Operates a personal computer to manage inventory and storage records.
• Maintains positive working relationships with staff and the public through courteous and professional interaction.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer; sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and maintain sustained posture in a seated or standing position for prolonged periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone; lift from the ground and carry 60 pounds; move several boxes via hand truck or cart. Travel to different sites and locations; must maintain safe driving record; maintain a clean and neat appearance.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Licenses/Certificates:

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

THE POSITION

The City of San Mateo is seeking a Per Diem Human Resources Technician providing a wide variety of technical human resource work in a variety of program areas including benefit administration; recruitment and selection; compensation; human resources information systems database analysis and report writing, and to do related work as required. This position receives general supervision from the HR Director or Senior HR Analysts.

EXAMPLE DUTIES

• Prepare and maintain personnel records.
• Write, edit and prepare digital and print communications materials.
• Assist in the recruitment process by preparing and distributing job announcements, composing, and placing ads, composing and recording announcements for the job hotline, updating and monitoring recruitment information on the City’s web site, screening applications, and answering inquiries from applicants.
• Work with departments in coordinating examination schedules and locations; prepare necessary correspondence for the examinations; notify candidates; enlist the services of examination board members; assemble and mail packets to oral board members.
• Process, update, and maintain invoices and accounts payable.

Substitution: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in information systems and support may substitute the required education and completion of high school or equivalent.  Experience substitutions are determined at the discretion of the Town of Los Gatos.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. The division also performs a variety of tasks, which include moving furniture, set-ups, and many other miscellaneous tasks as required. 

The Human Resources Administrator (Classification & Compensation) reports to the Director, Human Resources and is responsible for administering the District’s classification and compensation categorization system including performing highly confidential and professional level analytical work and advanced data analysis. This position makes recommendations based on studies and market data for professional-level administrative positions within the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), Peninsula Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) agencies. 

Essential Functions & Duties:

• Plan, develop, and administer the District’s classification and compensation program. 

• Gather, consolidate, and analyze complex qualitative, quantitative, confidential and sensitive data, datasets, and information from multiple sources. 

• Serve as the subject matter expert in classification and compensation, market salary data, and salary studies, providing information and recommendations to management. 

• Provides leadership in change management related to classification and compensation including communication with District staff on updated Human Resources policies and procedures. 

• Assists with People & Culture Group programs including benefits, recruitment, civil rights, and employee relations by providing data and information relating to compensation and classification. 

• Responsible for developing, updating, and communicating policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the area of administration.

• Conduct review of classification descriptions and determine an appropriate level of compensation based on market data comparators and internal alignment.

• Independently and proactively identify trends and insights for recommendations. 

• Monitor state and federal policy updates, new technology, or updated methodology related to classification and compensation and communicate changes to relevant departments and staff. 

• Prepares presentations, reports, and data visualizations to support findings and present information in a clear and concise manner. 

• Analyze and interpret large datasets and information. 

• Leads meetings to present salary and budget recommendations, policy updates, and individual results with staff, management, and consultants. 

• Performs periodic audits of the classification and compensation evaluation system, ensuring data quality and control, consistent and fair application, and 

• Maintains reports, manuals, datasets and files. 

• Manages the work of outside consultants, scheduling meetings with necessary administrative staff, and supporting the information gathering and decision-making process. 

• Assess and review compensation and classification policies and procedures for improvements.

• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• Associate Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or directly related field. 

• Five (5) years full-time, progressively responsible experience in classification, data and/or information analysis in a professional business setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to use initiative and independent judgment, work with interruptions and changing priorities, organize work and follow-up assignments with minimal supervision.  

• Public sector experience preferred. 

• Experience providing analytical support to a human resources function preferred. 

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting for non-sworn Police Officer Trainee candidates. This is for individuals that have no prior law enforcement experience and have not received POST certified police academy training. Trainees are paid while attending a POST-certified Police Academy. Upon successful completion of the police academy and upon availability of a Police Officer position, trainees are eligible to be sworn in as a Police Officer and become eligible for salary and benefits as outlined in the Brisbane Police Officers Association Memorandum of Understanding.

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Parks Maintenance Worker in the Parks Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Performs mowing, weeding, trimming, pruning, cultivating, fertilizing, pest control, planting and cleaning of lawns, trees, plants, and parks; removes and disposes of trash and litter; maintains park and maintenance equipment, buildings and facilities; maintains irrigation systems; performs construction and demolition of park facilities, drainage, low-voltage electrical and irrigation systems for new, expanded and renovated park facilities as part of capital improvement projects; performs minor plumbing or building repair duties; supervises and coordinates Sheriff’s Work Program personnel; operates small trucks, dump trucks, ride-on and walk-behind mowing equipment.

Education and Training Guidelines: 
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance, construction, or groundskeeping; completion of high school or the equivalent. 

Experience: One year of full time experience in general maintenance, construction, or groundskeeping.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Parks department will make the hiring decision.
