This position is a working level civilian class in law enforcement, performing a variety of        non-sworn duties in support of law enforcement activities.  Incumbents may perform civil, code enforcement, and criminal services including a variety of routine to more complex non-sworn law enforcement and crime prevention work including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls for service and complaints, serving civil papers, providing court room security; and enforcing local ordinances related to public safety and welfare.  As a County Services Officer he/she will enforce Division 14 of the Agricultural Code of the State of California and enforce the County ordinance governing the animal and rabies control program, in an effort to maintain public safety and welfare.  This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Process and serve documents involved in civil actions including summons, complaints, claims of plaintiffs and orders; declarations and orders of examinations, Notice of Entries of Judgments, civil and criminal subpoenas, Notice to Vacate Rental Premise and process writs of execution including the preparation of orders for wage garnishment. Works with other law enforcement agencies in matters related to the investigation of crimes and apprehension of offenders.

• Prepares various reports and case files on investigations, issues citations and warnings for violations of ordinances; files charges with District Attorney as appropriate; testifies and presents evidence in court.

About The Position:

The County of Yuba is actively recruiting to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Deputy Sheriff’s perform a wide variety of patrol officer and related duties required to effectively respond to and resolve the normal scope of peace situations, including the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, report writing, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony, and providing information and assistance to the public and perform related duties as assigned. The County of Yuba is recruiting for both Extra-Help and Full-Time Juvenile Corrections Officers I/II, in an effort to fill current vacancies and expand staffing levels. These positions are located on the Tri-County Youth Rehabilitation Campus which falls under the Juvenile Institutions Division of the Yuba County Probation Department.  The primary responsibilities of this flexibly staffed position are to: provide care, custody, supervision, and control of youth housed in the secured detention facilities while they are pending legal action or serving a post adjudication commitment; ensure and sustain a safe and secure environment for youth; and coordinate counseling and behavior modification activities associated with the operation of the facilities.

About Detention Services & Yuba County:

Our Department believes people can change and we can be instrumental in supporting that change.  We are  a small workplace family that supports one another to accomplish our mission and allow our team members to live full lives outside the workplace. Our Campus provides youth detention services to the communities of Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties as well as several contract counties through our Camp Singer program.  We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and includes the Tri-County Juvenile Hall, Secure Housing Unit, and Maxine Singer Youth Guidance Center (Camp Singer), under a Joint Powers Agreement between the three counties. Our Department is the administrative agency responsible for the management and daily operation of the facility. The shared goal of facility staff is to provide youth with support and tools that will assist them with successfully reintegrating back into the community.  Staff are provided with state mandated relevant training, which includes youth trauma; crisis management; cultural competence; mental health awareness; sexual abuse and harassment; and proper use of force.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. These are seasonal grant-funded positions assigned to a 40-hour work week. The North Tahoe Fire Protection District is currently accepting applications for current and future job openings from qualified individuals to serve on the chipping crew. These positions are grant-funded, seasonal positions assigned to a 40-hour work week. These positions are returning to the fire district in 2025, and we’ll be hiring three people to operate the chipping crew.  This position is expected to be active from approximately May through November.  The actual start and end dates will be dependent on weather and snow conditions and may be extended beyond 6 months, but no more than 9 months from the employment start date.  The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies.  

The Chipping Crew Members work under the direct supervision of the Division Chief of Fire and Life Safety or their designee.  

The primary purpose of this crew is to operate a residential chipping program for the local community. This includes responding to chipping requests, traveling to those addresses with a truck and chipper, chipping the material, ensuring a clean site upon leaving, potentially hauling and dumping the material at a temporary holding site, assisting with loading, and ensuring activities are adequately tracked. The applicant must be comfortable working in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions and lifting objects frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.  Chipping crew members will also assist with community workdays utilizing the truck and chipper or assisting with cutting and hauling combustible materials and filling green waste dumpsters.

We are seeking two outgoing and community-oriented individuals to join our Public Works department as temporary, part-time and/or substitute Crossing Guards. This rewarding and impactful position safely assists school children in crossing busy intersections by halting vehicles through the use of mechanical signals and/or hand-held stop signs; maintains order among children waiting to cross the street at street crossing points; permits street crossing only when safe to do so; reports the license numbers of vehicles violating school crosswalk-related traffic laws to Community Services management personnel or the Simi Valley Police Department; and, instills an awareness in school children of safety measures necessary for safe street crossing. 

Pay rate for this position is $16.50 hourly

• Must be 18 years of age or older, have open availability, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Must possess good hearing ability across a frequency range from 500 Hz to 3,000 Hz. Hearing levels meeting these requirements in the better ear either with or without a hearing aid will be acceptable. If an individual meets the criteria by using a hearing aid, then he/she must wear that hearing aid and be in possession of a spare power source for the hearing aid.
• Must possess corrected vision of 20/40 minimum, with no color blindness.
• A medical examination may be required prior to appointment and as a condition of continuing employment with the City.

Job Description

Under general supervision, the 8562 Counselor, Juvenile Hall, is responsible for the care, custody, safety and welfare of juveniles detained at Juvenile Hall.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to: 

1. Observes behavior of detainees in an assigned living unit; directs detainees in the upkeep of personal hygiene, during mealtimes, and while cleaning the unit; maintains appropriate close supervision over detainees to prevent negative incidents; provides appropriate discipline; consults with supervisors regarding disciplinary problems; conducts regular state mandated security checks of rooms; monitors visiting sessions to ensure the safety and security of detainees and counselors.

2. Inspects windows, locks doors when not in use, and keeps count of all detainees assigned to the unit; administers emergency first aid pending the arrival of medical staff; responds to emergency conditions which may require physically subduing and restraining hostile detainees to ensure the safety and security of the unit and the facilities.

3. Completes incident reports, behavior reports, individual case reports, and other departmental forms and reports; maintains the unit log book to ensure adherence to legal requirements. Maintains and updates electronic databases and case management systems.

4. Conducts ongoing individual and group counseling sessions with detainees by communicating rules, policies, expectations, and consequences; listens and responds to questions, concerns, complaints, and requests; provides assistance in working out problems to assist detainees.

5. Directs leisure time activities; teaches and encourages good sportsmanship.

6. Transports residents to and from various locations; directs and controls residents’ movement to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

7. Facilitates the admittance and release process of residents.

8. Confers with departmental personnel and representatives of outside agencies.

Qualifications

Education:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

License and Certification:
Possession of a valid California driver license.
Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Substitution:
Experience as a counselor in a juvenile detention facility or experience involving the organization, detention, or suspension of youth groups in a recreational or correctional program may substitute for up to two (2) years of the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. One (1) year equals thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units.
