POLICE OFFICER - Academy Graduate - $8,134 to $11,030 per month (up to $12,684 with incentives)

The City of Pleasant Hill is currently seeking applicants for Police Officer Academy Graduate. We offer excellent pay, benefits, opportunities for promotion, as well as the opportunity to serve a great community that values the services we provide.

Police Officers can serve in patrol, traffic, investigations, and K-9 assignments. Other collateral opportunities include instructor positions (Firearms and Force Options Team), Regional SWAT, Mobile Field Force, 10851 Task Force, CSI, Regional Major Accident Investigation Team, Driving Team with firearms and force options team, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), FBI Safe Streets Task Force, SET Team, Drone Team, Social Media Team, Community Resource Officer, School Resource Officer, and Field Training Officers. Specialty assignments may add an additional 5% pay. 

Officers work 12-hour shifts as part of a team concept. Shift schedules include 4-10 and 3-12, which may be changed periodically as job assignments may be rotated among patrol, traffic, and criminal investigation.  Night shifts include 5% additional pay. 

EDUCATION:

Academy Graduates (no sworn experience) - High school diploma and a minimum of 45 units of college-level course work, in addition to graduation from a P.O.S.T. basic academy.

Academy Graduate candidates with an honorable discharge may be credited with up to 15 semester units for a minimum of 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Armed Services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard).

The Novato Sanitary District is seeking a highly motivated, and goal-driven individual to join our Collection System team as a Collection System Worker (CSW). The District will hire at the level of CSW I or CSW II depending on skills, certifications and licenses held by candidates in the pool of qualified applicants. 

The CSW performs a wide variety of tasks associated with the maintenance of wastewater collection and reclamation systems, including inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repairs on lines, pump stations, and treatment facilities. The successful CSW I candidate will possess experience in general maintenance tasks, including the safe and effective operation of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment. Possession of a commercial driver's license is highly desirable. Experience working with sewer cleaning trucks and equipment is also a plus. The successful CSW II candidate will have three or more years of experience in collection system maintenance. Experience in pump station maintenance is highly desirable.

The Public Works Department is made up of four divisions: Engineering, Building Inspection, Maintenance, and Environmental Services. The City Engineer will be a key leadership position oversees the Engineering Division, ensuring the efficient delivery of public works projects, transportation initiatives, and infrastructure improvements that enhance the quality of life for our residents. 

The incumbent in this position will be instrumental in directing the planning, design, and construction of public infrastructure projects, overseeing both city-led developments and private sector contributions. This includes the review and approval of subdivision maps, street designs, stormwater management, and adherence to city and state standards for engineering projects. As a vital contributor to the City’s long-term development, the City Engineer will manage the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), ensuring that infrastructure projects are aligned with the needs of our growing community. 

Some of the City's exciting in-progress and upcoming projects that this position will be involved in include: 

• A streetscape project funded with regional grants and state earmarks, celebrating a beginning to development of the downtown area.

This position reports to the Public Works Director and supervises a talented team of professional, technical, and paraprofessional staff. The City Engineer will also act in the absence of the Public Works Director, providing crucial leadership and decision-making in the department. 

A few key aspects of this position are: 

• Leadership & Supervision: Direct the activities of the Engineering Division by assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of staff and ensure that city projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with legal requirements. 

• Project Oversight: Lead the development and implementation of major street, transportation, and capital projects through plan and specification review, bidding process management, and construction and inspection. 

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all private development and public improvement plans comply with state and local codes, including the preparation and review of subdivision maps and stormwater management initiatives. 

• Capital Improvement Management: Administer the City’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), including project selection, budget oversight, and coordination with City Council and other stakeholders. 

• Grant Applications & Management: Apply for federal and state grants to fund various public works projects. Monitor the expenditure and compliance of awarded grants. 

• Collaboration & Communication: Provide guidance to other City departments and the public on civil engineering and urban development matters. Represent the City in regional discussions and public meetings.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 
 
Education: 

• Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a closely related field. 

Experience: 

• Six (6) years of progressively responsible professional civil engineering work including three (3) years of supervisory and project management experience. 

License: 

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment. 

• Current registration as a Civil Engineer in California. 

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.

The Position

The Multipurpose Senior Service Program (MSSP) Case Manager will perform professional and clinical social work tasks and duties for older adults living with complex medical conditions to assist them to obtain optimum health, financial, and/or social services. As a member of the Human Services Department, this position reports to a Clinical Supervisor in the Aging and Family Services Division.

This is a regular, part-time position (32 hours/week) and will receive pro-rated benefits.

• Manage a caseload of 28-32 clients comprised of older individuals with complex medical conditions.

These are seasonal positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) that receive no City benefits.  Job training is anticipated to begin the week of June 23, 2025 and this assignment will run through September 30, 2025 at the latest.  Shifts will average 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week.  This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for one of the finest departments in the State.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking customer service and public safety focused individuals to join the wildfire mitigation team. Under supervision, inspectors will perform a variety of wildfire prevention duties with a focus on one-on-one education via property wildfire risk evaluations.  The Inspector’s efforts will support resident compliance with City and State Fire codes.

The customer-service oriented positions will support the City’s and Marin Wildfire Fire Prevention Authorities (MWPA)’s goals. The ideal candidate will be able to connect and inspire individual action among our diverse community by explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways.  Inspectors will utilize tablets and other technology to document findings and interactions in the field.

Our highly qualified candidate will be able to work effectively in small teams or independently and clearly communicate wildfire safety-related information to residents from various backgrounds.  We are looking for people who have sound judgment and can communicate effectively with others.  They will need to be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, engage effectively with the public and work harmoniously with our team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Perform defensible space inspections and wildfire risk evaluations in accordance with San Rafael Municipal Code 4.12.
• Investigates public and referred public agency complaints.
• Provide guidance to residents on suggested and required home hardening and defensible space strategies. 
• Provide residents with appropriate support resources and programs.
• Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires.
• Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files and records.
• Composes letters and reports based on field notes.
• Collect and input data and images into electronic devices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Communicate clearly and respectfully to residents and stakeholders.
• Learn and apply City and State Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
• Provide clear and concise written reports free of grammar and spelling errors.
• Utilize personal computers, tablets, and related software including the Microsoft Office Suite, mapping, and database tools.
• Independently conduct fire (defensible space) inspections.
• Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques.
• Be self-motivated, work independently to complete assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Interpret and explain fire prevention services, policies and procedures.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with stake holders to ensure that assigned fire prevention coordination efforts are successful.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

• In accordance with State legal requirements, applicants must be at least 18 years old by the application filing deadline.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent and any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• A background in customer service or public service.
• Ability to speak, write, and read Spanish is desired but not necessary.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS:

All City of San Rafael employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).  Employment in the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.  Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
