POSITION

Perform routine non-hazardous police office activities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

** These positions work alternate shifts which will cover a 24-hour operation.  Successful applicants may be required to work alternative hours, which may include swing shift, graveyard shift, including weekends and/or holidays. **

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of Law Enforcement organizational structure. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer conflict resolution skills, and writing skills, as well as be competent with computers and related software, e.g., report management, and MS Outlook, and Excel. Knowledge of principles, codes, regulations and laws governing records management of a police department.  Additionally, the Ideal Candidate will have a strong work ethic, ability to multitask, prioritize, knowledge of complex filing systems, and be available for shift work.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Process and maintain a variety of police records, files, forms, and manuals. Issues, receives, types, and processes various applications, permits, and other forms; processes warrants, permits, and citations; collects and processes fees and charges. Entries and modifications into a state and nationwide system. Processes police reports including receiving, reviewing, copying, distributing, filing, and making corrections as applicable. Logs subpoenas; collects, posts, and distributes department mail.  Answers a multi-line telephone system, providing information or routing calls to appropriate individuals. Greets the general public, giving information on the department and answering routine questions. Types, proofreads, and processes a variety of documents including general correspondence, memos, and legal documents. Operates standard office equipment including computer remote terminals. Creates and maintains files and databases. Provides fingerprint services for applicants and voluntary bookings. Performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

File routine reports and correspondence; perform general clerical duties using typewriter and word processor.  Respond to citizen requests for information and assistance.  Complete minor reports as required. Retrieve and input data into computer terminal. Receive calls and take messages. Accumulate data and prepare monthly statistical reports.  Process requests for copies of reports from both citizens and other criminal justice agencies. Inventory supplies and order when necessary.  Process monies and fees via the cash register, prepare licenses and permits, prepare and issue bills, complete citation sign-offs.  Prepare correspondences to victims of crime.  Complete and prepare background and record checks.  Process voluntary bookings and court ordered registrations.  Perform fingerprinting and Live Scan digital printing.  Assist in the transportation of property and evidence. Assist in preparation for the auction of property. Purge files. Provide relief for full-time Community Services Officers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: One (1) year of general administrative office work experience OR six (6) months of administrative office work in a law enforcement agency. Prefer experience with substantial public interaction.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver’s license required upon hire.

POSITION

To attend a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T), a certified basic academy. After successful completion of the P.O.S.T. academy, guaranteed promotion to Police Officer where they will perform law enforcement and crime prevention work and do related work as required.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

ABOUT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Woodland Police Department is staffed with 72 sworn officers and 22 support employees. It, too, is expected to expand in size as the City grows. The Department is managed by a Chief of Police, a Deputy Chief, four Lieutenants, ten Sergeants, and a Police Records Supervisor. The Department has three Bureaus: Patrol, Investigations, and Community Relations. Police Officers are assigned to all Bureaus where they work in various capacities and teams.   Within the Bureaus are many specialty units including K-9, Motors, School Resource Officers, Gang Task Force, Narcotics Agents, Detectives, and a Homeless Outreach Street Team.  There are a number of collateral duties available to officers including SWAT, Crisis Negotiations Team, Field Training Officer, Honor Guard, Arrest & Control Instructors, Firearms Instructors, Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T) instructors, Social Media Team, and Bicycle Team. ABOUT THE CITY

Woodland is a city of approximately 60,000 residents. Incorporated in 1871, Woodland is conveniently located on I-5 just 12 miles northwest of Sacramento and 9 miles north of U.C. Davis. Woodland’s primary business is agriculture and light industrial, including distribution centers for Target, True Value, and Walgreens. Woodland has a community college, 2 senior high schools, 2 junior high schools, and 12 elementary schools in the public school district, supplemented by five private schools, grades K through 12. The area offers various recreation possibilities: water skiing and boating on the Sacramento River, Lake Berryessa, and Lake Folsom; skiing in the Sierras, hunting and fishing; five golf courses; and many other youth and adult oriented recreations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

As a Police Officer Recruit, the Recruit will attend a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T), a certified basic academy during regular academy hours, and any other scheduled departmental and academy exercise activities.  Successful completion of the academy is required to continue employment and be promoted to Police Officer.  General Supervision will be provided by supervisory Police Department personnel, both sworn and civilian, and P.O.S.T. Academy staff.  No direct supervision of staff is exercised. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Equivalent to graduation from an accredited U.S. high school; passing score on the General Education Development (GED) test; or possession of a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Environment:  The candidate will train in a high-stress police-training academy; indoor classrooms and outdoor physical agility course; exposed to noise, smoke, and inclement

Physical:  Physical health, strength, stature, and agility to meet the physical demands of police work as determined by an agility test and a pre-employment physical exam.

Vision:  See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Age:  Must be 21 years of age upon completion of the academy.

Citizenship:  A candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law at the time of appointment. (Applicants may be in the process of obtaining legal authorization upon application, but will need to show proof of legal authorization to work in the U.S. under federal law before being accepted into the Academy)

Conduct: No felony convictions and good personal conduct.  During the Background Investigation, a candidate is evaluated relative to an established set of automatic disqualification criteria. Candidates are asked questions relating to the RECENCY AND FREQUENCY of traffic citations, at-fault automobile collisions, illegal drug usage, arrests, and convictions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for the Police Officer Recruit position must pass the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) with a minimum T-Score of 45 and must pass all components of the Physical Agility Test-Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) with a minimum score of 320.

• If taken within the past 12 months, applicants may submit evidence of a P.O.S.T. Certified PELLETB test score with a score equal to or greater than a T-45 with the application to be considered for this recruitment.
• Woodland Police Department will accept previously received Physical Agility Test-Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) scores if it is in an official format and less than 6 months old. 

Test Details:

1) Written Test - POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) - This test must be completed in less than 2.5 hours, and it must be passed with a minimum T-Score of 45.  The areas covered by the test include:

• Spelling - Select the correct spelling of a word from a list of options
• Vocabulary - Select the correct meaning of a word from a list of options
• Clarity - Select the sentence that is most clearly written from a pair of options
• Reading - Read a passage and answer questions about the passage's content
• CLOZE - Use contextual clues to complete a passage that contains missing words

2) Physical Agility Test - Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) - This test consists of five individually timed and weighted events, and the minimum passing score is 320 (Important – POST Academies may require a higher standard). The events include:

• 99-yard obstacle course with sharp turns and up to 34-inch high obstacles
• 165-pound body drag for 32 feet
• 6-foot chain link fence climb
• 6-foot solid wall climb
• 500-yard run

Test Date:

Woodland Police Department will offer the WSTB tests on an ongoing basis. Candidates will be notified of test dates and times once they have applied.

Eligible List Placement: 

Applicants for this position must take and pass the Physical Agility - Work Sample Test Battery (pass/fail), and the POST Entry-level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) with a minimum T-score of 45 (weight: 100%).  Those applicants who pass both the PELLETB and Physical Agility test (WSTB) will be invited to participate in a panel interview.  Applicants who successfully pass the panel interview will be placed on an eligibility list and may be selected to participate in a final interview with the Chief of Police.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

The Burlingame Police Department is divided into two divisions: Operations and Administration.  The force currently consists of 40 police officers, made up of the Chief of Police, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, 6 Sergeants, 6 Corporals, 2 Inspectors, and 22 Patrol Officers.

POSITION
Burlingame Police Officers are responsible for preventing crime, arresting law violators, directing traffic, etc.  In that capacity, officers may also serve in special assignments such as K-9, detective, SWAT, hostage teams, FTO, and motorcycle patrol.

• Patrol various areas within the City by driving a police vehicle or by walking to prevent criminal activity, to enforce various laws, regulations, and codes.

Candidates must be a US Citizen, at least 21 years of age on date of appointment, a US high school graduate (or GED equivalent), have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.  Must be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, read, comprehend, write, and speak English effectively.

Entry Level - Proof of completing the POST Written Test and Physical Agility Test with a passing score.

Lateral Police Officer - To be considered for a lateral Police Officer appointment, candidates must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer within the past twelve (12) months, including the completion of the field training program and probation period with a law enforcement agency.

POLICE OFFICER - Academy Graduate - $8,419 to $11,416 per month (up to $13,128 with incentives)

The most qualified applicants, as evidenced by their application, will be invited for an oral board interview, which is weighted 100%.  To be placed on an eligibility list, an applicant must receive a passing score of 70 or more from each panel member.

A thorough background check, as well as a physical, including a drug screen, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam will be conducted on the top candidates prior to appointment consideration.  Failure to achieve a qualifying score on any portion of the examination process will eliminate a candidate from further consideration.

The Position

 
The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for entry-level Public Safety Dispatchers.  Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.  Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining
a high level of confidentiality.  Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions.  This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.  

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties

• Receives and transmits emergency
  and non-emergency
  telephone and radio traffic.  

• Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs.

• Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records.

• Responsible for various Record Management System (RMS) entries, some of these include but are not limited to citations, warrants, subpoenas. 

• Responsible for accurate and timely entries into the California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (CLETS), as well as, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

• Maintains a high level of confidentiality.

• Performs collateral duties including a variety of related clerical tasks:
  records entry, assisting in fingerprinting and jail operations, which may include searching prisoners; and is accountable for handling cash, bond, and check transactions. 

• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 

 

Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation. 
 
Education

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Additional related college course work or degree preferred.

Experience

• At least one (1) year of related work experience requiring alertness and independent judgment, but no previous public safety dispatch experience is required.

Certificates and Licenses

• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, Class C with a good driving record.

• Typing certificate issued within the last year verifying minimum typing speed of thirty-five (35) net words per minute with a maximum of nine (9) errors. Typing certificate must be submitted with application to be considered.  Online typing certificate permitted with application; formal test will be administered to final candidate.

• Completion within the last year of the POST Entry Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery with a preferred minimum
  score of 48 or above;
  or CritiCall Dispatch passing test results within a year of application date.

• Certificate must be submitted with application to be considered.

What happens next?
