SUMMER AQUATIC STAFF POSITIONS
Salary Range: $17.37 to $30.68/hour; non-benefited, DOE and position offered
The Town of Danville strives to provide an aquatic environment that is safe, instructive and fun through recreational and lap swim, special events, the Learn to Swim program, Junior Lifeguard program and Lifeguard training classes.
PROGRAM LEADER (SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFEGUARD)
Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age. Required certifications to perform lifeguard responsibilities: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid (Lifeguard).
Aquatics staff generally work 3–5 hours per day and average 15–20 hours per week, with a maximum of up to 37.5 hours. Shifts can take place in the morning, afternoon, or evening at either San Ramon Valley High School or Monte Vista. Staff schedules and locations are coordinated based on program needs, so assignments may vary throughout the season. Staff may apply as a swim instructor and begin the onboarding process before completing a lifeguard certification, but priority hiring will be given to applicants with completed certifications.
SUPERVISION
Under the general supervision of the Pool Managers, Program Coordinator and Program Supervisor, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring aquatic safety and providing instruction for pool patrons. Swim Instructors/Lifeguards must enjoy working with children and the general public, be patient, reliable and have lots of energy.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Job duties include lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, leading pool programming, mandatory staff training, pulling tarps, required daily fitness, and administrative duties. Weekend shifts may be available on a case-by-case bases depending upon programmatic needs. Also:
- Provide aquatic safety and instruction for pool patrons.
- Use positive reinforcement and communicate effectively with parents/guardians.
- Maintain quality of staff performance in line with American Red Cross and Town of Danville standards.
- Perform duties within OSHA standards.
PROGRAM ASSISTANT (SENIOR GUARD)
Salary Range: $18.52 to $30.68/hour
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age. Required certifications by the end of Staff Training Week: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and it is preferable to have a Water Safety Instructor certificate as well. Senior Guards must have at least two years of lifeguard/swim instructor or equivalent qualifying experience; leadership experience is highly desired.

- Monitor Program Leaders to improve operation qualify of aquatics programing.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Required certifications by the end of Staff Training Week: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid. Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Training Instructor certifications highly desired.

SUPERVISION
Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator and Pool Supervisor, Pool Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the summer aquatics program.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Supervise performance of part-time and volunteers staff.
- Compose and maintain part-time staff schedules including correction for staff attendance.
- Identifies staff training needs, collaborate to effectively to implement training.
- Maintain quality of staff performance in line with American Red Cross and Town of Danville standards.
- Provides valuable customer service skills by assisting the community with aquatic related issues.
- Teaches swim classes and acts as a lifeguard as needed.
- Maintains inventory of pool equipment and supplies, assure pool equipment is in excellent condition and arrange repairs as needed.
- Maintains accurate attendance and registration records, and supports site operations by helping with participant class placement.
- Perform duties within OSHA standards.
