The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Engineer/Paramedics who, under direction of the Fire Captain, will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance. A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Minimum of 30 semester college units. Completion of college credits in the study of Fire Science or similar field.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
3. Successful completion of a Firefighter 1 equivalent training program, or possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 certificate.

Required Certification and License:

1. Must possess a valid Paramedic license.
2. Provide proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPT) certificate prior to appointment to the classification of Firefighter/Engineer. CPAT must be current.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license. Driving record will be reviewed and any infractions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Circulation Manager leads the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Library’s Circulation Services. As a member of the Library’s management team, this role is instrumental in maintaining efficient, patron-centered service. Key responsibilities include overseeing circulation operations at the Serramonte Main Library: supervising and supporting staff, managing schedules, and ensuring a high standard of customer service. The Circulation Manager also collaborates with managers across all four Daly City library locations, contributes to committee work, supports program planning and implementation related to circulation services, and completes special projects as assigned.

DEFINITION

Under the general supervision of a Librarian II, Librarian III or Library Services Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating a library program area such as Circulation, Programming, Outreach and Marketing, or Technology Support and Training.  This is the highest level of the Library Assistant series and is distinguished from the next lower class by the higher level of responsibility, including coordinating services system-wide and training and supervising staff.

Education: Graduation from High School or equivalent. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree majoring in industrial engineering, safety engineering, occupational health, or closely related field desirable.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in the areas of workplace safety and employee training, including at least one (1) year of which involved administration of a comprehensive safety and accident prevention program. Five (5) years of experience in the areas of workplace safety and employee training, including at least three (3) years of which have involved administration of a comprehensive safety and accident prevention program desirable.

License/Certification: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License; possession of a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care Provider certificate and First Aid certificate or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of appointment.

The following certifications are highly desirable:

• Certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and an Associate Risk Manager (ARM)

The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager – Senior Services is responsible for leading the operations, programs, services, and community engagement efforts that support Redwood City’s older adult population. The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. The Opportunity:

To perform technical inspection and investigative work in enforcing compliance with laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the prevention and control of fires; and do related work as required. The Fire Prevention Inspector I/II position is flexibly staffed based on experience.

This is the entry level class in the Fire Prevention Inspection series. This class is distinguished from the Fire Prevention Inspector II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including weed abatement and smoke detector inspections, which do not require prior specialized experience. Generally, work is observed and reviewed both during performance and upon completion, and changes in procedures and exceptions to rules are explained in detail as they arise. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the full journey-level classification in the wastewater treatment plant operator series. Incumbents independently perform the full range of wastewater treatment and reclamation and recycled water facilities and equipment operations and maintenance duties. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment plant systems and equipment. Positions at this level work independently, exercise judgment and initiative and receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Lead Plant Operator in that the latter is responsible for providing technical and functional direction to operations staff and is capable of performing the most complex operations and maintenance duties assigned to the division.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives supervision and direction from the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager or designee. Exercises lead oversight, including provision of technical supervision, assignment of work and/or the training of less experienced staff.

                             MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
• Additional specialized training in communications or a related field is desirable.

Experience:

• Some emergency or non-emergency dispatch experience is desirable.
