THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Police Department is recruiting for a full-time, Police Communications Dispatcher.  This is a specialized police civilian classification and performs all duties required to effectively dispatch police services including operating police radio communication equipment to communicate with the public and police.  Receives, interprets, and transmits information essential to the delivery of emergency and non-emergency police services.

• Monitors local emergency services radio transmissions; maintains contact and monitors status of field units; monitors the county mutual aid channel.
• Responds to emergency phone lines, including calls to and from fire department, alarm companies, and tow companies.
• Prioritizes needs of difficult callers, including hysterical victims, incoherent persons and suicidal subjects; assesses and evaluates emergency situations.
• Enters calls for service information into the CAD system, including type, location, nature and description of event; enters all field unit transmissions.
• Enters information into automated systems, including temporary warrants, missing persons, property, stolen vehicles, domestic violence restraining orders and firearms; searches various databases and automated systems in response to information requests.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties, including photocopying, completing forms and maintaining records; receives and responds to document requests for warrants and DMV printouts.
• Operates a variety of specialized equipment related to dispatch work.
• Answers front office non-emergency lines after hours.
• Informs on-duty shift Sergeant of street activity and pending calls for service.
• May train and evaluate new employees.
• Performs related duties as required.

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge of:

• CAD procedures

• Information technology, personal computers and related software applications

The Civil Engineer helps define, design and/or review minor projects and phases of large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines. Engineering Division
Projects may include such things as: bridge repair and replacement, culvert repair and replacement, new retaining walls, pavement management, road improvements, new stormwater management devices, new traffic management devices and others.

Land Development Division
Projects include a full range of private development from improvements to single family homes and small businesses to new subdivisions with extensive new infrastructure. This position issues and oversees permits such as grading, creek and quarry permits, supports the Road Commissioner role by issuing encroachment permits, transportation permits, and film permits, ensures private development project comply with stormwater regulations, floodplain management requirements, and use of the public rights-of-way, interacts with the public at the Counter and in meetings, and coordinates with the Community Development Agency to develop conditions of approval for development projects.

Hybrid schedule:
The Department of Public Works has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. However, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. DEFINITION
Under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position manages Recreation staff, programmatic leadership, assigned area budget, and cross departmental collaboration. SUPERVISION RECEIVED EXERCISED

• Receive immediate supervision from higher level Recreation staff. Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The Senior Civil Engineer creates the scope on large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines, integrating numerous elements that significant stakeholder involvement and sensitivity. Our ideal candidate has the technical knowledge and experience to confidently supervise a team of engineers, support staff, and consultants. You should be able to provide insight into the best options for successfully completing a project and guide programs in the best direction. Being well versed through experience and education in a range of different types of civil engineering projects and programs, which may include pavement management, road widening and reconstruction, drainage, grading, landslide repair, retaining structures, construction management, facilities, and others, is very desirable. Working closely with staff from other jurisdictions, divisions, departments, regulatory agencies and the public will determine your success in this role.
