The Police Officer Trainee is the entry-level position for those who have not yet attended the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy. The academy is a six month long process and the first step in your law enforcement career. After successful completion of the academy, officers perform a variety of law enforcement duties to protect life and property in accordance with applicable laws.
Trainee's starting salary is $30.68 hourly (while attending the academy), plus excellent benefits.

Upon successful completion of the Police Academy, promotion to Police Officer and salary increase to $35.06. In addition, officers receive pay incentives such as educational pay and POST Intermediate or Advanced Certification pay. The possibilities are endless!
The Simi Valley Police Department offers excellent benefits, training and advancement opportunities and special assignments. We offer one of the most competitive benefit packages in law enforcement. The City participates in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Our Minimum Qualifications for consideration are:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited U.S. high school or a passing score on the General Education Development (GED) test.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver license with an acceptable driving record.
Must be 21 years of age as of the date of hire; a United States citizen or meet citizenship requirements; and be of good moral character with no felony convictions.

Testing process:
- Upon passing a written examination, candidates will be contacted through email to complete a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ).
- Candidates who complete PHQ's in an appropriate and timely manner will be invited for an oral interview with Background Detectives and placed on an eligibility list based on interview ranking.
- Top Candidates will undergo a thorough background investigation including a medical, psychological, polygraph, and drug/alcohol screening.
- A Physical Agility testing will include:
- Phase I:
- 99 Yard Obstacle Course (time limit 25 seconds).
- Body Drag (165 pounds) (time limit 14 seconds).
- Chain Link Fence (time limit 10 seconds).
- Solid Fence (time limit 13.5 seconds).
- One Mile Run (time limit 10 minutes).
- Chief's Final Oral Interview.
