The City of East Palo Alto is seeking an empowering, self-motivated, leader to fill the full-time limited term 6 months Utility Manager position. The Utility Manager plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews the work of consultants, contractors and staff within assigned area. The Manager will also assist with long- and short-term project planning, design, maintenance, and operations in one or more of the following utility areas: water, wastewater, collection systems, solid waste, telecommunications, storm drain systems, and other utility related programs. Additionally, the Manager performs a variety of complex and responsible support to the City Manager and Public Works Director on all City utility related matters. The Utility Manager exercises general direction and supervision over supervisory, technical, operational, and administrative support staff.

The City of Pacifica is a beautiful coastal community, just south of San Francisco with an exciting opportunity. We are currently hiring an Engineering Intern to join our team. Under general supervision, the new team member will perform sub-professional engineering work involving manual and computer drafting, traffic data gathering, records management, map interpretation and processing, retrieval of information, assist with field surveys, and to do related work as required. The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is looking for a qualified Deputy Director of Public Works.

The Environmental Services Section consists of four main Divisions, including Clean Water Program, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Field Maintenance and Data Management. The Engineering Services Section consists of four main Divisions, including Engineering (including Capital Improvement), Fleet Services and Facilities (including facility maintenance and capital improvements), Regulatory Compliance, and Transportation (including Traffic Engineering, Right-of-Way /Private Development, and Transportation Planning).

The current vacancy oversees the Engineering Services Division. Depending on your skillset and experience the City could place you in either of these sections or adjust the divisional oversight responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

The Deputy Director of Public Works is responsible for directing and managing all programs within the Section for which they are responsible, includes capital improvement program development and implementation, traffic engineering, private development review, asset management, construction management, fleet coordination, downtown coordination and building maintenance; and the position may serve as the City Engineer.

• Utilize your experience and skills to lead a number of divisions within the Public Works Department.

• Engage in a positive manner with City Council, PW Department staff, City Departments and citizens.

• Lead and mentor a dedicated and talented staff featuring many emerging leaders.

• Analyze current processes and procedures to make system improvements for efficiencies, updating of standards, and

  improvements to the customer experience.

• Collaborating with other agencies and stakeholders to plan regional solutions on shared items of interest such as traffic

  and the City’s General Plan Update.

• Contribute to a collaborative and dynamic Public Works Leadership team.

  The Deputy Director receives general direction from the Director of Public Works and exercises direct supervision over management, supervisory, professional, technical, and administrative support staff.

Streets & Construction Worker I

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Streets & Construction I, under general supervision, to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, gutters, facilities, trees and other public service activities, and to perform related work as required.

THE POSITION(S)

Streets & Construction Worker I:

This is an entry-level class under close supervision, performs any combination of the following duties on construction projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability.  Work is usually performed with other workers.  This class may advance to Streets & Construction Worker II after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency to meet the qualification of the higher-level class.

Prerequisites:   Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school (or G.E.D equivalent to graduation) and two years’ experience performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled construction and/or maintenance involving buildings, grounds, streets and sidewalks.

HONORARY DEAN ALLISON INTERNSHIP

The City of San Rafael Public Works Department (DPW) is seeking an individual to join the team as part of the Honorary Dean Allison Internship program. This position will work part-time (up to 4 days/30 hours per week) with department staff on special projects and move forward the mission of San Rafael to support the community members we serve. 

The Honorary Dean Allison Internship was created to honor Dean Allison, the City’s Public Works Director from September 2015 to March 2016, before his untimely passing. In his brief time with the City, he embraced and embodied the ideals of public service and transparency. Dean focused on the needs of the public and worked effectively with individuals and groups throughout San Rafael to respond decisively to a broad spectrum of needs both large and small in a creative and community focused way. The namesake internship celebrates his life and his time serving the citizens of San Rafael.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Honorary Dean Allison Internship may include:

• Assisting staff to develop and implement the City’s sidewalk maintenance program.
• Drafting, iterating, and designing policy to introduce the City’s tree ordinance, urban forestry initiative, and the City’s public asset inventory project 
• Assisting with the permitting, sediment, reporting and regulatory compliance in support of the City’s Dredging project.
• Designing content and materials for public dissemination and outreach regarding City projects, maintenance activities, and public safety information.
• Preparing written reports on DPW program activities.
• Creating, updating and auditing project financial spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
• Conducting research and analysis of federal, state and local laws related to DPW engineering projects.
• Compiling information, preparing documents and public education materials for community members and stakeholders on DPW projects.
• Participating in city-wide projects in which DPW public works programs and activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Graduated or currently enrolled in the 3rd year of a Bachelor’s degree program or higher in an Engineering, Business, Public Administration, Environmental Science, or related program.
• Ability to multitask and stay organized.
• Proficient computer efficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to demonstrate characteristics of listening, flexibility, follow-through, problem solving, community-orientation, and identifying “win-win” solutions.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II

($23.14 – 29.61 per hour)

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.  The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II is a journey-level class in the Wastewater Plant Operator series which normally works under general supervision performing a group of related duties according to established procedures.  This position reports to the Utility Systems or Wastewater System Supervisor and does not supervise.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I

($21.49– 27.50 per hour)

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I is a journey-level class in the Wastewater Treatment Plant series, which normally works under general supervision, performing a group of related duties according to established procedures.  This position reports to the Utility Systems or Wastewater System Supervisor and does not supervise. 

This Internship is offered as part of a Regional Internship Partnership to introduce and encourage current students and new graduates to local municipal governments. The Town of Los Altos Hills hopes that internships like this will serve as a platform to connect a diverse student population with agencies that recognize their value and provide important opportunities for applicants to bring fresh ideas while gaining valuable hands-on experience in the public sector.

The Town of Los Altos Hills has five rewarding full-time, non-benefitted summer internships to begin around June 10, 2024 through August 30, 2024, which could be extended beyond the summer.

Job Description:  

The intern will work in the Public Works/Engineering Department and will be assisting engineering project managers with general clerical, administrative, field work, and technical tasks for public works projects.  Tasks may include electronic document filing, checking mathematical calculations, creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel, preparing presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, entering data and creating reports in various software applications, performing field data collection or investigation, construction management, internet research, creating map displays using Auto CAD, Google Maps/Earth, compiling and organizing data or documents.  The intern may also assist in other areas such as internal and external Department communication and public outreach.

Qualifications:

• Ability to learn new information quickly
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and web-based resources
• Ability to prioritize assignments and utilize good organizational skills
• Exhibit a positive attitude and flexibility in accepting assignments
• Have an interest in working in public sector engineering and construction management
• CADD experience is desirable

Water System Worker III (Lead Position)

($25.51- $32.66 per hour)

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Water System Worker III to assist in the operation and maintenance of the City’s water distribution system, including pumps, mains, chlorinators, meters, and other equipment; and do related work as required on an assigned shift, under general supervision of the Utilities Systems Supervisor and/or Director of Public Works.
