Come join our collaborative and supportive department today. The City of Sebastopol is seeking an outgoing, empathetic, responsible, problem-solver to serve as a Police Communications Dispatcher. The Police Communications Dispatcher receives and processes routine and emergency calls. The incumbent will dispatch police and enter, retrieve, and use data from various automated law enforcement information systems. The successful candidate will coordinate with and transfer calls to other emergency service providers as appropriate. The individual will perform a variety of clerical and technical duties in support of the department’s operations. In addition, they will learn applicable policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties, and perform other related duties as required. This recruitment is to fill a full-time and per-diem position and create a list for anticipated future vacancies. We will be creating two lists, one for already POST-certified dispatchers and one for entry-level dispatchers.

The City of San Rafael Library and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Facilities Attendant (Athletic Fields).    This position is responsible for supervision of athletic fields during assigned work hours while providing a positive and welcoming presence at the park.  The Facilities Attendant serves as an ambassador to park visitors, ensuring renters have access to their permitted spaces, unlocking soccer goals as needed, and promoting responsible use of the facility.  The Facilities Attendant also positively enforces park and field rules, encourages users to clean up after themselves, and helps to maintain a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all.  Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.

The City of San Rafael, Child Care Division is accepting applications for Child Care Aide to work in our School-Age Program.  We are looking for people who are available Monday thru Friday from 2:00 – 6:00 pm.  This is a great part-time position for someone who attends school in the morning.  No weekend work required!

• Assist Director and Instructors in planning and implementing activities.

The City of Sebastopol is looking for a respectful, compassionate, empathetic Police Officer Trainee. The selected candidate must be currently enrolled or enrolled at a future date as a self-sponsored recruit in a certified Peace Officer Standards & Training Council (P.O.S.T.) Police Academy. The Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn, training-level classification requiring no prior law enforcement experience. The incumbent performs a variety of entry-level police support duties in a learning capacity. The selected candidate will assist and observe Police Officers and civilian police personnel.

The successful candidate will attend the Police Academy to obtain a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate of Completion, and perform related work which may require public contact but not the enforcement of laws. Police Officer Trainees attend a POST certified Police Academy, which follows a standardized curriculum in order to provide them with basic training in various aspects of policing, many of which are prescribed by law and/or statute.

The Police Academy training is designed to provide the candidate the necessary skillsets to prepare them for consideration for promotion to a probationary Police Officer position within the City and begin the Sebastopol Police Department’s Field Training Officer program. ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs. This is the entry level classification in the professional police series requiring sworn peace officer status.

Examples of Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):

•  Patrol the City in radio-equipped car or on foot.
•  Answer calls for the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of city, county, and state laws.
• Conduct both preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, hold-ups, vehicle accidents, death, and other criminal incidents.
• Patrol the City and respond to calls related to traffic incidents and any other required emergencies.
• Observe, monitor, and control routine and unusual traffic conditions.
• Assist and advise motorists and enforce traffic safety laws.
• Make arrests as necessary.
• Interview victims, complainants, and witnesses.
• Interrogate suspects; gather and preserve evidence.
