Established in 1866, the San Francisco Fire Department is rich in tradition and history. From the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906 to the Loma Prieta Earthquake of 1989, the Department has grown to meet the many challenges along the way. Today, the San Francisco Fire Department serves an estimated 1.5 million people, providing fire suppression, fire prevention and emergency medical services to the residents, visitors and workers within San Francisco's 49 square miles.

Under general supervision, an H002 Firefighter engages in firefighting and related activities for the saving of life and property; administers first responder treatment, including first aid; and responds to a variety of emergency situations involving public safety and medical care. A Firefighter also may be assigned duties in connection with fire prevention activities, including the inspection of businesses, schools, and homes to ensure fire safety; maintaining station quarters; and performing other duties as assigned. Firefighters are required to work 24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays. 1) Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Written Test
The FCTC Written Test was developed by the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship

Committee (Cal-JAC).
The FCTC Written Exam is a 100 question, multiple choice test consisting of the following four

sections:

• Section 1 – Recall and Comprehend Verbal and Visual Information. This section requires candidates to watch two short videos and answer questions based on the scenarios presented.
• Section 2 – Apply Mechanical Reasoning
• Section 3 – Solve Mathematical Problems
• Section 4 – Recall and Comprehend Technical Information from Written Materials

The FCTC Written Test is administered, at minimum, quarterly. Additional tests will be added as needed, so check this website frequently. FCTC does not administer online tests.

San Mateo County Parks (SMCP) is currently seeking a full-time extra help Bilingual Community Engagement Intern II.

This position would be based out of Flood and Friendship County Parks and primarily working with the communities surrounding these parks. 

Friendship County Park is located in North Fair Oaks, an unincorporated area of Redwood City. Through community collaboration, the small urban park was developed to provide outdoor recreation facilities and space to promote community gardening. The park is situated on San Francisco Public Utility Commission land and is managed by SMCP. Less than an acre in size, the park features 30 community garden planters, a playground, picnic tables and more. Plot use is through an agreement with SMCP and requires regular participation in meetings. 

Flood County Park is a 21-acre park located in Menlo Park. It is primarily used as a location for family and group picnicking, playground use, and walking by the local community. The park has recently opened a new multi-use sports field, tennis/pickleball court, pump track and more! 

An intern at these locations would work on improving the interpretive elements of each park and provide programming and outreach opportunities for the local communities.

The Bilingual Community Engagement intern will report to Flood Park and be able to drive to Friendship Park and other park locations as needed. The intern will be supervised by the Interpretive Division Park Staff. 

Tentative schedule for this position (subject to change):

• Tuesday – Saturday: 8 hours each day
• 1 – 2 In person workdays
• 2 Virtual workdays (work from home)
• 1 Day for Events/Programming

Examples Of Duties:

A Bilingual Community Engagement Intern would be responsible for:

1. Management of Friendship Park Community Garden, including but not limited to:
   1. Managing garden plot availability and agreements
   2. Being the primary point of contact for Community Garden participants; maintaining regular communications by County phone, text, and email
   3. Working alongside gardeners to identify and address any needs or challenges in maintaining garden beds
   4. Facilitating monthly on-site educational opportunities for gardeners with staff from San Mateo County Health, Sustainability Department, and community partners
   5. Managing on-site garden tools and supplies; identify additional supplies that may be required
2. Community Program Coordination and Outreach, including but not limited to: 
   1. Coordinating and leading programs with Community Based Organizations and Partner Organizations within the community near Friendship and Flood Parks (i.e. Libraries, Schools)
   2. Leading interpretive programs at Friendship and Flood Parks 
   3. Tabling at local community events, such as Farmer’s Markets

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will: 

• Have strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish with diverse community members and San Mateo County staff to support gardeners.

• Be open to learning new skills, be flexible with various work projects, and be able to follow directions. 

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old

• Experience in food growing and garden management desired
• Knowledge of and ability to teach gardening concepts desired
• Ability to engage with individuals of many demographics and histories – youth, seniors, immigrants, economically diverse

Minimum Qualifications

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $132,749 to $162,905. Remote work is not available for this position. The City is proud to offer a competitive total compensation package with the following highlights:

• Wellness-focused schedule and paid time off (PTO) program

What You’ll Do

The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Mechanic I/II performs semi‑skilled and skilled work in the installation and repair of pumps, motors, chain drives, valves and related equipment and to do related work as required.  The WWTP Mechanic I is the entry level class in the Plant Mechanic series.  Positions in this class normally perform beginning level mechanical repair and maintenance work on a wide variety of wastewater quality control plant systems and equipment. Under this class series concept, positions assigned to the class of Plant Mechanic II may reasonably be filled at the Plant Mechanic I level.  The WWTP Mechanic II is the journey level class in the Plant Mechanic series. Positions assigned to this class are flexibly staffed and are expected to perform the most skilled repair and maintenance work and have a thorough knowledge of the operational characteristics, maintenance and repair methods and techniques and most typical system difficulties for the full range of equipment and operational systems in the plant. All positions assigned to this class require the ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative. Plant Mechanics II may also be expected to assist in the supervision of less experienced personnel.

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Operate machines and tools in repairing defective parts of pumps, compressors, generators, motors, lift stations, boilers and related mechanical equipment.

• Maintain accurate mechanical maintenance records.

• Install, repair, replace, and modify pumps, controllers, bearings, seals, hydraulic pipes, timing devices and assist in installing telemetering electrical equipment.

• Use a variety of power hand tools, cutting and welding equipment and electrical test equipment. Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with work flow processes.

• Perform preventive maintenance on wastewater treatment plant mechanical and electrical equipment. Evaluate equipment performance and identify problem areas.

• Maintain stock inventory and adequate supply of replacement parts.

• Plant mechanics may be required to respond to emergency situations after normal working hours and be subject to serve on emergency stand-by alert and call out status on a rotational basis, including participation in rotating stand-by duties.

• Analyze or create documents, such as blueprints, markings, surveys, etc. to problem solve the most effective approach to a task.

• Verify the work of others for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance.

• Formulate solutions to problems with equipment or operations, including logistics, operations, and processes.

• Draft operating procedures.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic I/II receives supervision from the Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Superintendent or Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic III as directed technical or functional supervision may be provided by higher level treatment plant maintenance personnel.  Assignments may require indirect supervision of less experienced plant maintenance personnel.

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Director of Transportation for the Bus Transit division, contributes to the mission of Golden Gate Transit by ensuring that Golden Gate Transit has the best possible trained Bus Operators. Instruct Bus Operators for safe operations of vehicles, uniform compliance, and enforcement of District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Document Bus Operator Students’ performance. Must be willing to work shift assignments from Santa Rosa, Novato, San Rafael, or San Francisco Division locations. May be assigned to perform other duties.
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Conducts training class for newly hired bus operators, including obstacle course, classroom and “over the road” instruction by delivering standardized curriculum.
• Develops classroom curriculum, including itinerary, lesson plans, training and testing materials and implement training for newly hired and existing bus operators.
• Acts as designated D.M.V. examiner in the testing and certification of bus operators; or coordinates with D.M.V. to get student operators V.T.T. cards and license conversations.
• Maintains complete and accurate documentation on every facet of training and testing for each student as required and mandated by state and federal governments.
• Performs individual evaluations of student operators progress in the training program.
• Conducts ongoing Verification of Transit Training Classes for existing bus operators and other commercially licensed employees who need to maintain a V.T.T.
• Supervises Bus Operators fitness -for -duty as they report to work, including observing for divergencies from normal behavior patterns, uniform appearance, grooming and possessions of driving credentials and medical card.

• Works with the Director of Training and Safety on compliance with D.O.E., D.O.T., and D.M.V. training and documentation requirements
• Develops and implement minimum standards for bus operator trainees.
• Monitors progress of trainees and provide periodic counseling and progress evaluation.
• Conducts refresher training for bus operators returning to work after extended absence.
• Testifies on training or related fields at bus operator hearings, arbitrations, or trials.

• Re-trains bus operators as directed by disciplinary hearings on accidents or rule violations.
• Evaluates new equipment and changes in existing equipment and prepare data to be used as instruction criteria. (This material is distributed to bus operators when training on this equipment) outlines and checklists.

• Compiles and maintain "Training Subjects Manuals."
• Obtains and maintain appropriate certifications.
• Works with appropriate staff in the recruiting and selection process for bus operators.
• Works with passenger relations and planning department to provide ADA training for persons with disabilities.
• Represents GGT as necessary and assist in the structure and the presentation of the annual Regional Bus Roadeo.
• Instructs and monitor operation of G.F.I farebox and radio systems.
• Observes and monitor safe operation of vehicles by riding with operators, contact and correct operators on safety procedures.
• Issues infractions and/or discipline for violations of safety policy and procedures.
• Ensures employees under their supervision follow established safe work practices and obey all safety rules.
• Performs driver safety observations by riding on board buses or observing from a moving vehicle or fixed location and provide written reports on these observations; and issues discipline for safety violations observed.
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors, and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance are required.
