The Office of Racial Equity is hiring an Assistant to the City Manager position to serve as the Inclusion and Belonging Manager for the City of San José.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience and knowledge in:

• Being a bridge-builder with the San José community and trusted to be a local partner on immigrant and refugee issues;

• Familiarity with legislative process, advocacy towards immigration policy and initiatives;

•                

• Understanding the local context regarding race, gender, and economic disparities and inequities;

The Inclusion & Belonging Manager responsibilities include the following:

• Implementation of a Welcoming framework, as well as monitoring, evaluation, and quarterly reporting;

•                

• Form and staff a Welcoming San Jose Advisory Group;

•                

• Prepare council memorandums and presentations;

•                

• Engage in Citywide efforts to advance racial equity;

•                

• Develop and facilitate ongoing partnerships with other agencies and organizations, including Santa Clara County, Rapid Response Network, Refugee and Immigrant Forum, Welcoming America, Cities for Citizenship, local funders, and other networks that prioritize immigrants;

•                

• Serve as a liaison between the City and the immigrant and refugee community;

•                

• Work with the City Manager’s intergovernmental relations team to track local, state, and federal immigration legislation and develop new City policies and programs accordingly;

•                

• Supervise City staff and college interns; and

•                

• Other duties as assigned.

This is a permanent at-will position with the City Manager’s Office reporting to the Director of the Office of Racial Equity. Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese is preferable but not required.

The City of Redwood City is looking for individuals interested in working on an on-call basis providing transportation for seniors attending functions at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center plus working with staff on any programmatic needs assistance.  Hours will vary based on Center needs and will not exceed 10-20 hours per week.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department seeks motivated, self-driven individuals passionate about working with the public. Customer Service Representative involves substantial contact with customers, program contractors, instructors, and staff, working in the café or as a birthday party host.  Various tasks may be assigned, from the front desk to facility setup/clean up.

The Position:
This is complex clerical work involved in central District processes related to the procurement of goods and services, including selection of vendors, volume buying, implementation of bid procedures, scheduling and coordinating deliveries, inventory, assessing availability and quality of goods and services, administering under direction district-wide procurement related tools, such as procurement and gasoline cards, creation of purchase orders, creating and archiving documentation, and assisting the Senior Buyer as needed. Under general direction, the employee provides technical buyer information and facilitates purchasing of both goods and services to all District units. Public contact is extensive, primarily involving District and College staff at all levels and outside vendors for the purpose of exchanging product, procedural, timeline and workflow information. A moderate to high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to select and apply appropriate policies and procedures to the resolution of frequent minor and occasional major problems that arise. Duties and Responsibilities:

Attends and conducts meetings and consults with College and District staff, vendors, and others to provide information about the bidding process, development of bid procedures, clarification of product specifications, finalization of contractual agreements, and collaboration on the resolution of problems
6. Administers and oversees administration of the procurement card program, including issuance and cancellation of cards and communications with cardholders and the bank
7. Administers and oversees administration of other District-wide procurement tools, such as reverse auctions, gas cards, or contract management software
8. Participates in and/or provides direction to staff on purchasing transactions requiring specialized technical knowledge or understating of specific commodities, materials, supplies, manufacturers, and District services
9. Analyzes and maintains inventory records and performs fiscal year close activities related to fixed assets and communicates with District external auditors on the fixed asset program

The Position:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Payroll Manager performs professional supervisory work involved with managing and directing computerized payroll production for the District. The Payroll Manager develops, implements, and monitors procedures to ensure integrity of the payroll systems and to comply with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, and guidelines. Public contact is extensive and involves staff at various levels within the organization, local government agencies, and other outside entities for the purpose of exchanging technical accounting procedural and policy information. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to analyze data and develop resolutions for a variety of minor and major problems that occur. Duties and Responsibilities:

2. Oversees the preparation of monthly payrolls for District employees and any retroactive pay adjustments
3. Reviews payroll control reports and approves payroll transmissions
4. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff and provides feedback, training, and developmental support as needed
5. Establishes and monitors timelines and prioritizes work
6. Supervises the maintenance of District payroll records and reports as required by federal, state, local, and District policy, including meeting STRS and PERS requirements
7. Compiles information and calculations for W-2 reporting
8. Sorts and distributes W-2 forms at year-end and answers questions regarding accessing electronic W-2 forms
9. Oversees W-2 corrections and the preparation of W-2c and W-3c documents
10. Monitors and audits the accuracy and integrity of all payrolls, benefit health cost premiums, mandated benefit costs and balances the general ledger

17. Recommends payroll system enhancements/modifications to comply with laws, regulations, tax requirements, reporting procedures, accounting policies, labor union agreements, and organizational needs
18. Confers with Human Resources, ITS staff, and external agencies, including auditors, state retirement agencies, health benefit agencies, consultants, and federal and state agencies

Please note that the California Education Code requires, in part, that community college districts shall not employ or retain in employment persons in public school service who have been convicted of certain felonies, a misdemeanor drug charge (including alcohol offenses) or misdemeanor moral turpitude (sexual offense) crime. However, consideration may be given to those whose drug convictions occurred more than five years ago. A conviction for other crimes may not necessarily disqualify you from the job for which you may be applying.
