Under general supervision, the Landscape Worker I performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure, including parks, park facilities and buildings, landscaped areas, irrigation systems and controllers, trees, and medians; uses and operated a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power driven equipment; and performs related work as required.

Ideal Candidate

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Performs maintenance and repair activities of City parks and related facilities to ensure safe and efficient access for the public, including parks, recreation facilities and buildings, landscaped areas, trees, and medians.

• Performs a variety of landscape construction and maintenance duties, including planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and maintaining flowers, shrubs, and trees; trimming and pruning trees in street landscaped areas; performing weed abatement using a chemical sprayer; irrigating, mowing, and fertilizing turf; removing fallen trees, stumps, fallen limbs, and related debris; raking leaves and clearing debris from walkways, fields, and other facilities; picking up trash and emptying receptacles.

• Performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems; changes and adjust heads; maintains controllers; participates in performing irrigation system installation and maintenance projects.

• Maintains parks and landscaped areas in a clean and safe condition, including picking up trash and maintaining trash receptacles; cleaning and maintaining restrooms.

• Operates and maintains a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment and hand and power tools related to the maintenance and repair of City parks and related facilities.

• Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required

• Maintains public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.

• Maintains accurate logs, reports, and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.

• Receives and acts upon complaints, referrals, and concerns from the public; responds to and performs work in emergency situations as required.

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. 

Experience: One (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks and/or related facilities is desirable. 

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class B Driver’s License by time of appointment; possession and maintenance of Qualified Applicator certificate issued by the State of California.

Benefits Overview:

The City offers a healthy cafeteria benefits program including choices among plan options for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and short and long-term disability. 

Retirement:  The City is a part of the CalPERS retirement plan and does not contribute to Social Security. Classic employees – 2% @55 formula, highest 3-year average compensation PEPRA employees – hired after 1/1/13 or Classic employees who have experienced a 6- month break in service are eligible for a 2% @ 62 formula, highest 3-year average compensation

Sick Leave: 96 hours of sick leave per year. 

Vacation: Employees can earn 120 hours a year

Holidays: 11 authorized holidays per year, plus 18 hours of floating holiday time.

Education and Wellness Reimbursement: Employees may request reimbursement for $2,000 of approved education expenditures; $1,000 of that amount may be spent on selected wellness benefits and items.

Union Membership: This position is non-exempt and is part of the Service Employees’ International Union (SEIU 1021).

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Assistant Plant Manager within the Department of Public Works Wastewater Division.  Under direction of the Wastewater Plant Operations Manager, the incumbent will plan, organize and manage the activities of the Wastewater Treatment System Division.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains wastewater infrastructures which includes wastewater collection system, pump stations, wastewater treatment plant, parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program.

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Division is organized into two groups which includes the operation of the Calera Creek water treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The Engineering Division manages public infrastructure projects, transportation planning and maintenance and repair of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is supported by 56 full-time staff and the Wastewater Division has an annual operating budget of $18.5 million, along with a CIP appropriation of $ 5 million. The Assistant Plant Manager reports to the Wastewater Plant Operations Manager.

• Conduct operational studies and special projects; gather information, evaluate alternatives, prepare and present reports and recommendations.
• Recommend and enforce safety measures and programs and ensures that assigned staff, consultants and contract employees conduct work in a safe manner in accordance with established procedures.
• Prepare requests for proposals for vendor, engineering, contractor and maintenance services; negotiate and administer contracts and authorized payments for services.
• Control the requisition of supplies, materials and equipment.
• Serve as the City’s alternate representative with all regulatory agencies, including the Regional Water Quality Control Board, the Air Quality Control Board and the State water Quality Control Board as needed.
• Serve as a Disaster Service Worker, as required.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required and other duties as assigned.

THE POSITION

Under administrative direction, the City Engineer plans, organizes, coordinates and directs all Engineering Division activities of the various functional units including capital project design and construction administration, development review, traffic engineering, signal and streetlight maintenance and storm water program administration; provides professional assistance to City staff in areas of responsibility; performs related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS

The City Engineer is a single incumbent class at the middle management level. The City Engineer is responsible for the direction and management of activities and achievement of division goals established for the Engineering Division.

• Assists in the development of the division’s work plan and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards.
• Assigns work to professional, technical and clerical staff; reviews work to assure overall quality

• Prepares and administers the division’s budget; monitors authorized expenditures.

• Oversees the contract for street lighting and traffic signal system maintenance and related facilities and appurtenances.
• Oversees the activities of the local utility companies that support the City’s CIP projects, regional transportation projects, development projects and utility improvements.
• Oversees the activities of the City’s Stormwater/Clean Water Program, including the preparation and submission of the annual report.
• Understanding of federal, state, county and local transportation funds and the requirements and policies for project implementation including planning, environmental, design, right of way, construction and project close-out and may serve as City’s technical advisory member for the Alameda County Transportation Commission monthly funding meetings.
• Performs all activities related to the preparation and administration of grant proposals; coordinates with grant program staff to satisfy grant requirements and achieve funding reimbursements.   
• Ensures that the City is in continuing compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to municipal engineering and public works matters; reviews and recommends revisions to applicable policies and ordinances. 
• Advises the Public Works Director, City Manager’s Office and others on the planning and implementation of capital projects, land development or other related activities. 
• Prepares and presents engineering recommendations to the City Council in conformance with applicable codes, rules, regulations, and other legal requirements; functions as the Public Works staff representative to the Planning Commission and other City committees as required. 
• Represents the City in meetings and coordinates division activities with those of other City departments, divisions and outside public and private agencies
• Responds to citizen inquiries, requests and complaints.
• Serves as the Public Works Director on a relief basis.

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a forward-thinking and results-driven Budget Officer to play a pivotal leadership role in the Finance Department. As the strategic leader of the City’s biennial budget process, the Budget Officer collaborates with all departments, provides key insights to executive leadership, and ensures transparent, data-informed decision-making. With the City currently implementing a new budget software, the successful candidate will take ownership of the system and be responsible for producing the final budget documents in both print and digital formats. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Budget Strategy, Development, and Reporting 

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s biennial Operating and Capital Improvement budgets  

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s biennial User Fees, Fines, and Penalties Schedule 

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s annual Cost Allocation Plan  

• Collaborate with departments to align financial resources with City goals and priorities 

• Develop multi-year financial forecasts and monitor trends to support long-term planning  

• Write clear, concise, and effective staff reports to communicate complex financial information to City leadership and the public 

• Prepare and present budget reports and other financial information for internal and external stakeholders 

System Implementation and Innovation 

• Take ownership of the City’s new budget software system and the development of the online and PDF versions of the Adopted Operating and CIP budgets  

• Streamline and improve the City’s Monthly Financial Report  

• Play a key role in the planning and implementation of the City’s future ERP system replacement 

• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative processes 

 Financial Reporting & Capital Management 

• Oversee capital asset budgeting and coordinate with departments on project funding and tracking  

• Analyze financial and operational data to provide insights and recommendations to executive leadership 

• Develop tools and reports to improve transparency and decision-making across the organization 

Leadership & Collaboration 

• Supervise and mentor direct report(s), fostering ownership, accountability, and professional growth  

• Serve as a trusted advisor to the Finance Director and senior management 

• Coordinate cross-departmental efforts and facilitate a collaborative, service-oriented budget process 

Communication & Training 

• Deliver clear and effective presentations to staff, senior management, and City Council on budgetary reports, issues, policies, and financial data  

• Lead cross-departmental training efforts on budget systems, financial procedures, and reporting tools 

• Translate complex financial concepts inaccessible information for non-financial audiences  

This is one of newer programs within the Marysville Fire Department.  The Marysville Fire Department is hiring continuously for three (3) Seasonal Firefighters.  

For this position, each hour worked will be paid at $16.50, that will be paid monthly in accordance with the City of Marysville's established pay schedule, with a maximum of 960 hours per appointment.
