What You’ll Do

• Perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered apparatus, vehicles, hydraulic systems for aerial ladders, and other like equipment.
• Accept assignments received in the form or oral or written communications.
• Determine the nature and extent of needed repairs, prioritize them, and perform necessary repairs.
• Inspect all department vehicles to ensure they meet proper safety protocols and are in standard working order.
• Maintain all vehicles to ensure safe working order for all employees.
• Perform regular servicing and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and apparatus including performing tune-ups, lube, oil, filter, Inspection, and chassis lubrication.
• Diagnose, service, maintain such things as: fire pumps, relief valves, and other control of plumbing equipment (proper certification required).
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, power train components, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, hydraulic and pneumatic brake systems, steering and suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Perform welding and fabricating work when applicable.
• Operate all equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Perform routine shop maintenance and clean-up and dispose of hazardous materials according to established procedures.
• Keep records of work assignments for bookkeeping and tracking purposes.
• Potentially respond to unanticipated emergencies to make temporary and/or permanent repairs in the field.

These are seasonal positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30) that receive no City benefits.  Job training is anticipated to begin in early May with employment lasting through late Fall.  Shifts will average 8 hours per day/4-5 days per week.  This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for one of the finest departments in the State.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking customer service and public safety focused individuals to join the wildfire mitigation team. Under supervision, inspectors will perform a variety of wildfire prevention duties with a focus on one-on-one education via property wildfire risk evaluations.  The Inspector’s efforts will support resident compliance with City and State Fire codes.

The customer-service oriented positions will support the City’s and Marin Wildfire Fire Prevention Authorities (MWPA)’s goals. The ideal candidate will be able to connect and inspire individual action among our diverse community by explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways.  Inspectors will utilize tablets and other technology to document findings and interactions in the field.

Our highly qualified candidate will be able to work effectively in small teams or independently and clearly communicate wildfire safety-related information to residents from various backgrounds.  We are looking for people who have sound judgment and can communicate effectively with others.  They will need to be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, engage effectively with the public and work harmoniously with our team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Perform defensible space inspections and wildfire risk evaluations in accordance with San Rafael Municipal Code 4.12.
• Investigates public and referred public agency complaints.
• Provide guidance to residents on suggested and required home hardening and defensible space strategies. 
• Provide residents with appropriate support resources and programs.
• Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires.
• Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files and records.
• Composes letters and reports based on field notes.
• Collect and input data and images into electronic devices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Communicate clearly and respectfully to residents and stakeholders.
• Learn and apply City and State Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
• Provide clear and concise written reports free of grammar and spelling errors.
• Utilize personal computers, tablets, and related software including the Microsoft Office Suite, mapping, and database tools.
• Independently conduct fire (defensible space) inspections.
• Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• A background in customer service or public service.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for Extra Help-Cook within the Yuba County Jail. Under close supervision, prepares and provides institutional meals following federal and state nutritional guidelines, and performs other duties as assigned.  Yuba County staffs the Cook classification at the County Jail division in the Sheriff’s department  This position performs a full range of tasks associated with the preparation and distribution of meals to juvenile detainees and adult inmates.  The incumbent ensures that properly prepared nutritional meals are produced in a large volume, institutional setting.  Responsibilities also include overseeing detainees and/or inmates and institution workers assisting with food preparation. 

For successful performance, the incumbent would be required to have knowledge of principles, methods and equipment used in high volume meal preparation in an institutional setting; basic food groups and nutritional values; safe work practices related to food preparation, storage and service; basic business arithmetic; and basic inventory and record keeping principles and practices. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff.   The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated.  The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. A Dispatcher II may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of dispatch work; general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net).  Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. • Salary:  $6,538 to $8,468 per month. Placement within the range depends on experience and qualifications.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
 

Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I: Experience working with staff involved in product or service delivery operation.

 

Rehabilitation Production Supervisor II: Two years of experience in an industrial production operation or rehabilitation WorkCenter including a supervisory assignment.

The examination will consist of an interview (weight: 100%), which may include the evaluation of a brief written and/or performance exercise given immediately preceding the interview. Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or a screening committee may select those applicants whose education and/or experience appear to best meet the needs of the position. Because of the screening process, not all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of Public Safety Dispatcher with an energetic and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.

 
Under general supervision of the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher, processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, rescue, animal control or other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD); and performs related work as required.

 

The minimum qualifications required for this position are - Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; and Two years of experience dispatching police and/or fire services for a public safety agency utilizing contemporary dispatching technical tools, including computer aided dispatching systems; or successful completion of probation as a Public Safety Dispatcher-in-Training with the City of Sunnyvale.
