THE POSITION
To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Facility Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for employment as an Intern. Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
This position will perform semi-skilled tasks in a variety of light construction and maintenance activities. The Ideal Candidate will be customer-friendly and be a solutions-oriented professional who is flexible in dealing with shifting priorities, have good time management skills, and possess the ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintain and repair City buildings, equipment and facilities by performing a variety of semiskilled carpentry, plumbing,  painting, heating/air conditioning, mechanical repair and electrical work as necessary. Inspect City buildings to locate conditions indicating the need for repairs and maintenance; assist in establishing and implementing preventative maintenance programs. Operate and maintain a variety of heavy tools and equipment, including small power and hand tools. Work cooperatively with others. Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Remodel and repair a variety of building components such as counters, tables, desks, bookshelves, cabinets, partitions, walls, windows and doors; boilers, water pumps, exhaust fans, compressors, and other water and sewage system plumbing as required. Perform electrical work such as wiring and rewiring; replace switches, ballast and receptacles as required. Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required. Requisition supplies and materials. Perform general janitorial duties as needed. Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Six (6) months of work experience in carpentry, electrical and maintenance work is desirable.
License and Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License required upon hire.

BENEFITS

Department of Public Works

The City of Half Moon Bay Department of Public Works seeks a qualified individual to perform a variety of professional level duties and responsibilities in support of the Engineering Division and functions including research and analysis for design, land development and capital improvements; to provide information and assistance to applicants, developers, consultants, the general public, and outside agencies and organizations regarding City codes, policies, standards and processes related to engineering, building and capital projects; and to participate in planning and implementation of projects.  The core services of the Public Works Department are to promote safety, livability, and sustainability through effective management of streets, parks, facilities, and utilities.  The department is also dedicated to excellence, integrity, and environmental stewardship.  For more information about the Department of Public Works please visit the department website.  

The Engineering Division is responsible for review of private development, issuance of applicable permits, assisting with environmental reviews, coordination with other divisions/departments, consultant engineers, and other utility providers in the design and construction of new public and privately funded projects and infrastructure.  The division identifies capital improvement needs in consultation with other divisions and departments, coordinates with non-City utility providers on design and implementation of the CIP, and oversees design, permitting, bidding, and construction of those projects.  The division is also responsible for managing the Traffic Safety Committee, related traffic safety regulations.  

WHAT YOU 'LL DO

This position is responsible for performing entry level professional civil engineering work related to the design, construction, inspection, and coordination of a variety of public works projects as well as review and permitting of private development projects.

• Experience working in AutoCAD, microstation or comparable planning and design software.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Assistant Engineer: $7,950 - $9.663 monthly DOQ

Holidays: 14 paid holidays per year.

Vacation: 12 days (96 hours) annually.

Administrative Leave: 12 days (96 hours) annually.

Sick Leave: 12 days (96 hours) annually.

Retirement: PERS Classic employee receives 2% at 55; single highest year and PEPRA employee receives 2% at 62, with highest 3 years. Classic employees pay 7% employee contribution and PEPRA employees pay half the normal costs (currently 6.5%). The City of Half Moon Bay does not participate in Social Security, except the required Medicare.

Health Insurance: Employee can choose from medical plans provided through CalPERS. The City provides an allowance of $1,900 per month, which can be used for medical premiums.  Any unused portion may be taken as additional compensation. Dental and Vision is fully paid by the City up to family coverage.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Education

Possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in civil engineering or a related field; and

Experience

Assistant Engineer - No experience is required, although some practical technical experience or an internship is desirable.  

Licenses and Certificates

Assistant Engineer - Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver's License is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment.  Possession of an Engineer Training Certificate is preferred.  Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California is strongly encouraged within one year of hire.

Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.

The Assistant Civil Engineer is an entry-level class in the Civil Engineer series. This class is distinguished from the Associate Civil Engineer by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the Civil Engineer series. Incumbents perform less complex office and field engineering work and assignments are generally routine or closely related within a framework of established procedures. The Assistant Civil Engineer receives general supervision from higher level professional engineers and may exercise technical or functional supervision over technical engineering staff. The Assistant Civil Engineer position does not require registration as a civil engineer or professional engineer.  This position will have a focus in development review but will also participate in Capital Project delivery.

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform a variety of engineering duties in support of capital improvement projects including road construction, storm drains, sewers, traffic systems and related construction projects.
• Perform design and engineering studies for capital improvement projects, including the preparation of project plans, research project design requirements, drawing specifications, cost estimates and project schedules.
• Preparation of Request for Proposals, including scope of work for a variety of engineering projects and studies. Management of engineering consultant procurement process and oversight of engineering consultants.
• Manage advertisement and award of construction projects including the review of contract bids and proposals; management of construction contracts including participating in the review of contractor work activities; ensures contract compliance with contractual obligations, prepares and reviews change orders and manages contract close out and acceptance.
• Coordinate projects and assignments with businesses, utilities, special districts, and other City departments. Respond to complaints and assists in solving problems related to City projects and policies; provides information to property owners, contractors, engineers, consultants, and the general public on conformance to standards, plans, specifications, and costs.
• Conduct or oversee field inspections or investigation of capital projects during construction; ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations; provides resolutions to construction problems; conduct or oversee survey, mapping, and data collection.
• Performs private development plan review.
• Perform a variety of engineering complex calculations and computation; prepare project cost analyses; prepare estimates of time and materials costs.
• Investigate field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations.
• Develop revised design and construction standards for public works structures and appurtenances.
• Prepare estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures.
• Prepare special engineering studies and reports.
• Prepare applications for state and federal grants.
• Review and provide plan check comments for private development applications and building, grading, and encroachment permits in accordance with City codes, ordinances, and policies. Review of required studies and coordinates with consultants to provide peer review of special studies.
• Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with current accepted practice of civil engineering and appropriate laws and codes.
• Maintain a variety of public works department and engineering division program and project files and records.

Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of Town water, sewer, street and storm drainage facilities and systems.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
•    Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling.
•    Perform routine cleaning, inspection and preventive maintenance of equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
•    Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.
•    Maintains Corporation Yard and other Town facilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director will oversee department-wide administrative operations and strategic initiatives including organizational planning, program performance, budget development, financial accounting, procurement, contracting, human resources, recruitment, and other administrative functions. This role will supervise three staff members in the Operations Division and closely collaborate with other staff to achieve the Commission’s strategic goals.

The Deputy Director must be willing to forego involvement in all local political activity while a member of the Commission staff and publicly file an annual Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Essential duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Establish and implement departmental goals, policies, and strategic plans as directed by the Executive Director.
• Develop and maintain a broad understanding of the Commission’s laws, policies, programs, procedures, and operations.
• Oversee daily administrative operations of the department including financial management, procurement, accounting, payroll, and related office operations.
• Effectively plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of direct reports.

• Maintain information on the Commission’s website, including budget, operational reports, and Commission information, in compliance with the City’s language access and digital inclusion standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, AND
• Two (2) years of managerial experience in governmental ethics, campaign financing, and/or lobbying laws and regulations, all of which must include supervisory experience.

Substitution: Additional experience as described above may substitute for the required degree on a year for year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Desired Qualifications

• A Master's degree in public administration, business administration, public policy, or a closely related field of study, or a juris doctor degree.

• Two or more years of demonstrated experience with public sector management, budgeting, financial accounting, procurement, contracting, and/or recruitment functions.
• Experience in the fields of campaign finance and governmental ethics.
• Experience working objectively, efficiently, and effectively under strict deadlines and highly visible, sensitive, or politicized settings.
• Extensive knowledge and expertise in organizational policies, systems, and issues in a government setting.

The City of Dixon Recreation Department is accepting applications for one (1) position of Pool Manager for the 2025 Aquatics Season.

The Aquatics Supervisor organizes, leads, supervises and performs all aquatic activities as related to the management and operation of the City of Dixon swimming pool. Performs regular lifeguard duties, organizes and instructs swim classes. Performs related and other work as required.

This is a temporary/seasonal position working the Aquatic Season as early May 2025 through November 2025. Staff can average between 20-40 hours per week based on the season, needs of the program, and staff availability. Staff may be expected to work weekends and on fixed holidays. Those who work on a City Holiday will earn 1 ½ times their base hourly salary.

This position is subject to random controlled substance testing and/or breath alcohol testing.

The City of Dixon is recruiting to fill a full-time position of a Community Service Officer I/II and to establish an Eligibility List for future use. Duties include a wide variety of professional law enforcement functions which do not require peace officer training, including youth services, crime prevention, records management, property and evidence management, information gathering and report writing, code enforcement, office support, operation of jail facilities and parking and traffic control.

Community Service Officer I: This is the entry level class in the Community Service Officer series.

Community Service Officer II: This is the full journey level class in the Community Service Officer series.

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Secretary of the District, performs complex and highly analytical work for the Secretary of the District, members of the Board of Directors and associated committees.   Departmental lead on government tort claims, legal documents and communications and participating in complex, sensitive, and detailed analytical work in the areas of budgets, historical preservation and economic, regulatory and administrative policy. Provides internal customer service by assisting managers and executive level staff in complex analysis.  This position requires a high degree of accuracy, discretion, confidentiality, excellent communication skills, and robust customer service skills. 
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary analytical support to the District Secretary;
• Interprets meeting proceedings and prepares draft meeting minutes, with minimal oversight and as assigned, may attend meetings in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs legal functions of the office and guidance to office staff in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs a wide variety of complex legal analysis, research and briefings about claims for the District, Bridge, Bus and Ferry Divisions, and works with legal counsel in the areas such as government tort claims, subpoenas, Brady requests, small claims and lawsuits;
• Provides a wide variety of complex, confidential analytical duties in support of the District Secretary, Board of Directors, and standing Board committees;
• Independently composes, researches, compiles, summarizes, and prepares a variety of complex correspondence, reports and documents; reviews finished materials for completeness and accuracy; ensures documents comply with District standards, policies and procedures;
• Perform special studies for the District, and coordinates assigned activities with other District departments, and divisions, and outside entities;
• Independently responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints;
• Coordinates and assists in the development of the annual budgets of the Board and District Secretary’s Office and monitors, reviews and approves department expenditures, and performs financial analysis for budgetary purposes;
• Assists the District Secretary with providing direct support in varied, analytical administrative projects related to the Board and its committees;
• Independently prepares and presents a variety of oral and written reports, correspondence, and statistical analyses with extreme attention to detail and accuracy;
• Works with Procurement to select vendors and purchase department services as needed for projects, and participates on panels for various District procurements especially those related to the District’s third party administrators for public liability and workers compensation, insurance advisors and e-document conversion;
• Has an in-depth understanding of the department’s functions and especially its role with the Board of Directors such as the steps involved in planning and executing Board events and maintaining key Board documents such as Rules of the Board, Master Ordinance and record of the Board’s proceedings;
• Autonomously draft client correspondence and legal documents, using proper format and appropriate language and content;
• Oversees newspaper advertisements for public hearings/meetings;
• Monitors activities and ensures maintenance of files related to insurance and accident claim matters to fulfill department records retention schedule;
• Engages with a wide variety of District representatives including the Board of Directors, Executive Team, mid-managers and staff in a wide variety of roles including those engaged in specialized trades;
• Performs additional related duties as assigned; and
• Regular and reliable performance and attendance is required.

Salary range(s) for this classification is/are:   

Building Inspector Combination: $110,881.68 - $134,862.00 

Building Inspector Combination Certified I: $114,157.68 - $138,705.84 

Building Inspector Combination Certified II: $117,215.28 - $142,877.28 

Building Inspector Combination Certified III: $121,910.88 - $148,512.00 

Building Inspector Combination Certified Senior: $138,225.36 - $168,473.76 

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.   

The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Conduct inspections of industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and facilities to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, and contract agreements which includes: setting up inspection schedules; gathering information and evidence; and, ensuring conformance to plans, specifications, and safety regulations.   

• Investigate building, construction, and land use changes in the field by: gathering factual data to ascertain present use of land and location of structures; conducting background investigations and research; and, preparing reports to use as evidence.   

• Provide technical assistance for development of codes and policies.   

• Generate written reports and enforcement orders which includes noting deficiencies in standards and submitting final documentation.   

• Review plans and specifications for compliance with codes which includes assisting in projects in complying with regulations, prioritizing deficiencies, and preparing timetables.   

• Provide technical support for agencies and the public which includes inputting data into system for general public access.   

• Meet with architects, engineers, City officials, and building contractors to discuss construction projects.   

• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
