The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is looking responsible, enthusiastic, and team-oriented individuals to join our Aquatics Team!

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 15 years old and able to obtain a work permit if under the age of 18. Candidates must complete and pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, by June 1, 2026. While not required, Water Safety Instruction (WSI) certification is highly desirable.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure Patron Safety: The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by preventing injuries and accidents. This includes remaining alert and vigilant, actively monitoring the pool and surrounding areas, recognizing hazards early, and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies—including water rescues, CPR, and first aid.
• Enforce Rules Consistently: Lifeguards help patrons stay safe by enforcing facility rules fairly and consistently. This involves monitoring behavior, addressing unsafe actions, and educating patrons about safe practices.
• Maintain a Clean and Safe Facility: Lifeguards assist with daily maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. Tasks may include checking and recording chemical levels, organizing and inspecting equipment (including rescue buoy, Shepard's hook, First Aid pack, etc...), picking up trash and debris, and reporting or addressing unsafe facility conditions.
• Availability: Ability to work a minimum 25 hours a week from June 15th – August 9th, including some weekends. Pre-planned and approved vacation requests may be accommodated.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• Provide Instruction Across Levels: Teach swim lesson participants across a range of skill levels, following established curriculum and safety standards.
• Ensure Participant Safety: Maintain constant awareness and create a safe learning environment for all participants within your class.
• Maintain Professional Class Operations: Arrive prepared and work all scheduled hours, begin and end classes on time, stay afterward to answer participant or parent questions, and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned.
• Assess and Support Student Progress: Instruct, observe, and evaluate students’ skills and progress throughout the session, providing clear feedback and guidance.
• Complete Required Documentation: Accurately complete and submit report cards, skills sheets, attendance records, and any other required documentation on time.

The City of Menlo Park is hiring Recreation Specialists to support City-operated Summer Camp programs serving children ages 4.5 through 13 years old for programs running June 15th through August 14th, 2026.

Under general supervision, Recreation Specialists provide direct supervision of participants and assist with age-appropriate recreational, enrichment, and physical activities in compliance with California Community Care Licensing (Title 22) requirements and City policies. This is an hourly, at-will, part-time (non-benefited) position offering paid training and valuable experience in youth development and public service.
 
Schedule

• Part to Full-day summer camp shifts
• Up to 8.5 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid meal period

Essential Duties

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Ferry Mechanic performs preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, and modifications on structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and control systems found on ferry vessels and passenger terminals; performs related work as assigned. Responsibilities include record keeping and written verification of work accomplished.

Salary Range:  
Day Shift:               $56.32 per hour
Swing Shift:           $56.32 per hour + 10% differential pay
Graveyard Shift:    $56.32 per hour + 15% differential pay

Essential Responsibilities

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications.
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component.
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• References manufacturer schematics including blueprints, drawings and specifications to resolve maintenance issues.
• References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.
• Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed.
• Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used in the electronic maintenance system. 
• Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately where possible.
• Immediately reports to supervisor any potential maintenance problem or condition which could cause a possible schedule delay.
• Maintains all work areas, special tools and equipment used in performing maintenance function, in a clean and orderly manner.
• Operate a forklift and other equipment/vehicles safely.
• Interacts on a regular basis with vessel operations personnel.
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to job.

                                     POSITION DETAILS:

• Salary Range: $26.51/hour with excellent benefits

• Promotion Opportunity: Police Dispatcher at $29.96/hour with excellent benefits

• Growth Potential: Up to $79,539/year ($38.24/hour)

• Cost of Living Adjustment: 3% increase effective July 13, 2026

• Schedule: 10-hour shifts, 4 days per week, rotating every four months

The anticipated hiring range for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Supervisor position is $95,985 - $119,982 annually, with a full salary range up to $143,978. The City typically makes offers within the hiring range based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

DESCRIPTION 

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a hands-on and technically proficient Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Supervisor to support operations at the Hill Canyon Treatment Plant (HCTP), a 24-hour, Class V advanced tertiary wastewater treatment facility with a 14-million-gallon-per-day capacity that treats an average of eight million gallons of wastewater daily from domestic commercial, and industrial sources. HCTP employs a wide range of sophisticated technologies, including a SCADA system, complex mechanical process equipment, analytical instrumentation and meters, industrial electronic control systems, and power distribution infrastructure.  

The Maintenance Supervisor oversees the maintenance of this diverse and critical equipment, including on-site power generation systems such as biogas-fueled cogeneration and photovoltaic solar array that offsets the facility’s energy use. Treated effluent is produced to an advanced tertiary level and reused for agricultural and landscape irrigation, while biosolids are managed and hauled off-site for composting. This role requires strong leadership, sound technical judgment, and the ability to manage shifting priorities in a highly regulated, continuously operating environment, while ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant plant operations.  

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned staff; develops, implements, and monitors work plans, processes, systems, and procedures to achieve established goals, objectives, and performance standards.  

• Plans, directs, and evaluates employee performance; establishes performance expectations and development goals; provides regular coaching and feedback; and recommends recognition or corrective action, consistent with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations. 

• Participates in the recruitment and selection of maintenance staff; coordinates and provides staff training; and works with employees to address performance or skill deficiencies.  

• Establishes schedules and methods for providing plant maintenance services; identifies staffing, equipment, and material needs; and allocates resources accordingly. 

• Provides leadership to ensure a high-performance, safety-focused, and team-oriented work environment aligned with departmental and City goals.  

• Participates in budget development; forecasts funding needs for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors expenditure; and recommends budget adjustments as needed. 

• Performs and oversees complex mechanical, electrical, and equipment maintenance and repair activities.  

• Oversees and supports the maintenance, reliability, and performance of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, including coordination with control technologies, operators, and IT staff to ensure system availability, alarm functionality, and integration with plant equipment and processes.  

• Monitors SCADA system trends, alarms, and performance data to identify equipment issues, support preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and ensure timely response to system or equipment anomalies that may impact plant operations.   

• Monitors work sites to ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures; responds to and resolves complex operational or equipment-related issues. 

• Inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with City standards, regulations, and operating procedures.  

• Serves as technical liaison with contractors, consultants, and engineers on mechanical and maintenance-related projects. 

• Maintains inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and supplies required for efficient plant maintenance operations.  

• Operates motorized equipment as required and performs physical and hand-on maintenance work in support of plant operations. 

• Prepares and maintains operational records, reports, and documentation related to maintenance activities.  

• Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices through training and professional development. 

• Performs related duties as assigned.
