Under direction, the Deputy City Clerk provides complex administrative and organizational support for all functions and activities of the City Clerk’s Office, including the duties necessary to ensure the custody and maintenance of official City documents, public and archival records and files, and public information. The Deputy City Clerk services to City employees and the public; as the Acting City Clerk in the absence of the City Clerk.  The Deputy City Clerk – Administrative Aide administers projects as assigned, fields and answers inquiries from the public, City departments, officials, and outside entities; participates in fostering cooperative working relationships among City departments and with State and local intergovernmental and regulatory agencies and various public and private groups; provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Clerk, City Manager, City Council, and other City Administrative Managers, and performs related work as required.

This position is full-time at 36 hours per week.

As a Maintenance Worker II in our Streets Division, you will help keep Mill Valley’s streets and infrastructure safe, functional, and looking their best. Working under general supervision, you will take on a range of skilled and hands-on tasks including paving, concrete work, storm drain cleaning, and street repair.

Your day might include operating construction equipment, mixing and pouring concrete for sidewalks or curbs, clearing debris from storm drains ahead of the rainy season, or resurfacing a neighborhood street. You will also help direct traffic around work zones, respond to emergency repair needs, and may lead small crews on specific assignments.

• Loads, transports and unloads stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, timber and other materials.

• Clean storm drains.

• Performs concrete work.

• Directs traffic, erects barricades and traffic signs.

• Participates in constructing or resurfacing streets with permanent paving materials.

• Leads small crews in performing of specific tasks.

• Cleans and cares for tools and equipment and responds to emergency calls.

The City of Sebastopol is seeking an engaging, inclusive, collaborative, and talented leader who is well-versed in project management, facility and infrastructure maintenance, water distribution and wastewater collection systems, public parks and facilities maintenance, and related laws, regulations, and safety standards. The Director of Public Works will oversee the City Engineer, direct assigned personnel, and coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies. This position plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the full range of activities, personnel, and operations of the Department of Public Works, including public works construction and inspection, repair and maintenance of City infrastructure and streets, the contract for City Engineer services, and engineering and transportation permits and programs.

The position, under administrative direction, oversees the activities of the Health and Human Services Health and Wellness Division which includes Behavioral health, Substance Use Disorder and Public Health. The Mill Valley Police Department is currently seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer Trainee, a salaried and benefitted, at-will classification which includes a Sponsored Police Academy opportunity. 

A valid (within 1-year) and passing PELLETB T-Score of 42 or higher, as well as a passing score of 320 for the Physical Agility Exam and a maximum run completion time of 14 minutes for the 1.5 mile run is required to move forward in the hiring process. If selected for the position, the employee will undergo a full background check, psychological testing, and medical testing. After passing required tests, the employee must commit to attending a 20-week program with the Santa Rosa Junior College Public Safety Training Center. The police academy will be held Monday – Friday and include some nights and weekends. The next academy is January 5 - May 22, 2026. 

Upon graduation, the successful trainee will be transitioned to a Field Training Officer program with the Mill Valley Police Department and promoted to Step 1 Police Officer (probationary) with full benefits. If the employee does not complete and graduate the police academy with a POST academy certificate, they will be released from employment. The applicant may be released at any point they do not pass required testing during the course of the police academy. 

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Police Officer Trainee position enables an incumbent to attend a local law enforcement academy and earn their POST (California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training) certificate of academy completion while enjoying the support and mentorship of our agency, and receiving compensation. Through the academy and certification process, the successful incumbent will become eligible for promotion to Police Officer and immediate transition into MVPD's Field Training Program.

Under the general direction of the City Building Official, performs inspections of residential, commercial, public works, infrastructure, capital improvement, and private development construction projects to enforce relevant codes; provides enforcement and interpretations of all state and local building codes and the relation and implementation of policies and procedures; ensures the life, health and safety of the citizens of the City as it relates to construction, use and occupancy of all structures; serves as the principal enforcement officer of the building and housing codes including ordinances and provisions for dangerous buildings and derelict structures; works collaboratively with other departments, individuals and agencies to proactively reduce the number of dangerous buildings and derelict structures in the community.

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.   

The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Conduct inspections of industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and facilities to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, and contract agreements which includes setting up inspection schedules; gathering information and evidence; and, ensuring conformance to plans, specifications, and safety regulations.   

• Investigate building, construction, and land use changes in the field by gathering factual data to ascertain present use of land and location of structures; conducting background investigations and research; and preparing reports to use as evidence.   

• Provide technical assistance for development of codes and policies.   

• Generate written reports and enforcement orders which includes noting deficiencies in standards and submitting final documentation.   

• Review plans and specifications for compliance with codes which includes assisting in projects in complying with regulations, prioritizing deficiencies, and preparing timetables.   

• Provide technical support for agencies and the public which includes inputting data into system for general public access.   

• Meet with architects, engineers, City officials, and building contractors to discuss construction projects.
