The Ideal Candidate

The Police Department is searching for an effective and self-motivated individual who has the ability to perform first line supervisory duties, as well as provide secretarial support to an executive. The Senior Executive Assistant will be well versed in writing, reporting, supply management, scheduling, organization, time management, equipment maintenance and travel logistics. The incumbent will have strong customer service skills to communicate in a professional and effective manner both verbally and in writing. In addition, the successful candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).

The Position

The Police Public Service Assistant (PSA) III is assigned to the Police Department’s Crime Lab and provides support to the Forensic Specialists and Crime Scene Investigators during operations in the Crime Lab. The Police Public Service Assistant III position requires excellent customer service and communication skills.

Examples of job duties include:

• Ordering and purchasing supplies.
• Re-supply evidence packaging area and appropriate lab areas.
• Clerical tasks, to include typing, running stats, electronic filing tasks, etc.
• Pick up and return evidence as needed.
• Pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
• Arrange logistical operations within the lab and evidence packaging area including but not limited to arranging chemical waste and sharps removal, filter replacement, etc.
• Minor maintenance on office or lab equipment as required.
• Assist in assembling print kits for evidence collection.
• Identify and communicate with police, and outside vendors to complete job duties.
• Escorts outside vendors while they conduct business on the police campus.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Position

The Public Service Assistant (PSA) II is assigned to the Police Department’s Red-Light Camera Unit. Under direct supervision of the Traffic Enforcement Project Specialist, the Public Service Assistant II will perform administrative tasks in support of the Police Department’s Red-Light Camera Unit. This position is a temporary/part-time appointment and may work up to 20 hours a week.

Examples of job duties include:

• Order and prepare court packets of red-light violation from Red Flex for review by court commissioner and defendants.
• Research and understand several sections of the vehicle, government and evidence code as it pertains to red light violations.
• Prepare trial by written declaration packets.
• Research and print out DMV information, including photos and convictions for case files.
• Assist with conducting enforcement sign and equipment verifications.
• Assist with verifying yellow light timing with city Traffic Engineers.
• Assist with review and maintenance of court evidence binders.
• Uploading case file evidence.
• Research statistical studies and assist in report preparation.
• Order office supplies and maintain a functional and organized workspace.
• Retrieve, sort and distribute incoming mail.
• Answer phone and return phone and email messages.
• Other duties as assigned

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Police Department is recruiting for a full-time, Police Call Taker & Records Specialist.  This position routinely takes all non-emergency calls for service both over the telephone and in person at the police department counter; provides information and assistance to the public both over the telephone and in person; processes, maintains, and disseminates all police reports and a wide variety of confidential police reports and a wide variety of confidential police department records.  This position is a journey level specialized police civilian classification and performs all duties required to effectively dispatch police services.

This position performs the following essential job duties:  (including but not limited to the following):

• Answers and evaluates all non-emergency calls for service and responds to each individual call with appropriate action and may be required to take some emergency calls for service.
• Enters information into the CAD system about calls for service including type, location, nature and description of the event; researches, interprets, and applies the appropriate law, code, or statute to all police records related issues.
• Evaluates and handles all in-person requests for service at the front counter of the police department and responds to each request with appropriate action, including advice, information, referrals, assistance with counter reports, and taking of supplemental reports.
• Provides callers and walk-in customers with assistance, information, or referral on situations that they determine not to be police-related; serves as a conduit of information from the police department to other public safety agencies and service providers.
• Operates a complex computerized records management system; processes and maintains a wide variety of police reports, documents, and records in both electronic and paper format; enters and retrieves information from other law enforcement data bases and resources.
• Maintains and ensures the integrity and security of all confidential police records and reports; provides for the appropriate release of information in accordance with all state laws governing confidentiality and the release of police records; researches, purges and seals records.
• Prepares mandated statistical and other reports for the State Department of Justice; prepares, codes, categorizes, tabulates, enters, and audits a variety of data, forms, and reports.
• Prepares both standardized and specialized letters, records, and reports; prepares releases for impounded and stored vehicles and criminal record clearances.  Collects fees, posts and balances monies.
• Orders and maintains office supplies; delivers reports to other agencies; may be asked to perform matron duties.
• Performs related duties as required.

Instruct children and adults (primarily 5-12 years of age) in beginning to intermediate sports camps or programs, such as Badminton, Basketball, Baseball, Cricket, Football, Softball, Soccer, Tennis, etc. Class content should provide basic and/or more advanced game mechanics, strategies, and the rules of sports, depending on the student level of skill. The Position & Responsibilities

The Executive Assistant to the City Manager is a critical position in the City Manager’s Office. Examples of responsibilities include the following:
• Maintain executive's appointment schedule by planning and scheduling meetings, conferences, teleconferences, and travel.
• Conserve executive's time by reading, researching, and routing correspondence; drafting/proofing letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information.
• Maintain confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
• Prepare reports by collecting and analyzing information; Assist in development and preparation of staff reports for submittal to the City Manager or City Council; develop PowerPoint presentations.

THE POSITION:

 

The City of Hayward is excited to announce its recruitment for the position of Lateral Communications Operator. 

DEFINITION

Under general supervision from the Communications Supervisor, the Communications Operator operates a computer aided dispatch system receiving calls and dispatching police, fire or other City services.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a journey technical level position in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full range of duties assigned. This class is distinguished from the Communications Supervisor in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned communication personnel.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Communications Center in the Support Services Division of the Hayward Police Department is responsible for dispatching both Police and Fire Services throughout the City of Hayward. The Hayward Police Department is one of 18 CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement) accredited police departments in California and is committed to maintaining CALEA's high standards and broadly recognized excellence.
The Communications Center is frequently the first point of contact that a member of the public will have when requesting assistance from the City of Hayward. The information gathered by the communications operator during this contact is critical to a positive outcome. The Communications Center consists of six (6) stations with each communications operator assigned to a specific job.
 

 

Essential Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• English usage, including comprehension and grammar.

• Read and comprehend information and instructions.

Minimum Qualifications

LATERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a public safety dispatcher for a Public Safety Answering Point, including heavy public contact while performing multiple tasks and using a computer-aided dispatch system.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

Licenses and Certificates: Completion of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Public Safety Dispatcher course is highly desirable.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Typing Certificate: A typing certificate with 35 net words per minute 

1. Certificates will be accepted from a public school, business school or temporary agency; certificates from Internet testing services and/or home computer CD testing will NOT be accepted.
2. Typing certificate (or signed statement on official letterhead from the testing agency) must be dated no earlier than six (6) months prior to the date of the application filing.
3. Typing certificate (or signed letter) must state all of the following information:

· Five (5)-minute timed typing test.
· Gross typing speed in words per minute.
· Gross number of errors.
· Net words per minute

THE POSITION / JOB DUTIES

The Police Public Service Assistant (PSA) III is assigned to the Police Department’s Animal Services Unit and provides daily support with the customer service and animal shelter operations. Examples of job duties include:

· Assist with animal behavioral assessments.

· Assist potential adopters through the adoption process by completing forms and accurately entering adoption information into the database.

· Process animal intakes while explaining the process to the customer and assisting with paperwork and entering data.

· Process cash handling activities with regards to adoptions, intakes, outcomes, and pet licensing.

· Assist with caring for the animals by providing food, water, basic grooming, and enrichment activities to minimize shelter environment stress.

· Preparing and administering vaccinations to animals entering the facility.

· Assist with behavior assessments for the placement of animals.

· Data entry and clerical support.

· Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Professional experience working with animals is preferred.

Special Requirements:  Must be 18 years of age.  The selected candidate must be willing to work a variety of shifts, including days, afternoons, weekends, and holidays.  Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate: $16.67 - $20.26. Placement within the range will be made depending upon the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.  This is a part-time/long-term temporary assignment and may work up to 20 hours per week.
