Under direct supervision from the District Engineer, performs a variety of tasks of subprofessional engineering, office, design assistance, and drafting work. These tasks include plan checking; assisting in environmental and civil technical support work; perform engineering support work using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), computer aided design (CAD), surveying equipment, and global position systems (GPS); technical writing; public outreach; records keeping, and related duties as assigned.

When assigned to Open Space Maintenance:

• Assist in vegetation management; assist in tree care, creek, preserve and natural resource maintenance.
• Maintain bike trails, power tools, and irrigation systems.
• Operate tree care equipment such as chippers, stump grinders, power tools and other related equipment.
• Perform data collection/GPS in preserves and open space areas, creeks, and the urban forest.
• Perform pesticide application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Basic methods, tools, and equipment used in natural resource and grounds maintenance.
• Basic principles and practices of record keeping.
• Principles and practices of safety management.

Ability to:

• On a continuous basis, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, and reach while operating equipment and perform maintenance and/or construction activities; perform heavy manual labor; operate a variety of hand and power tools used in maintenance activities; know and understand maintenance operations and/or construction projects, observe safety rules.

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade GED, or higher level degree; additional course work and training in maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, natural resource management or related field is highly desirable.

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license by date of application. 
• Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates within six (6) months of hire.

The duties of this position ensure that the District conforms and adheres to all applicable city, county, state and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures. 

Under the direction of the Superintendent.

1. Administers the District’s Safety Program; ensures compliance with applicable occupational and industrial safety requirements; recommend, develop and implement safe work practices and procedures; performs accident investigations, coordinates and oversees District training activities.
2. Ensures compliance with applicable regulations related to the operation of a sewage collection system. Plans, coordinates, develops, implements, oversees sanitary sewer environmental compliance, and performs management, administrative and coordinated regulatory oversight to ensure the District’s compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory agency requirements.

Technician – AA or AS degree with major course work in occupational safety, regulatory affairs or closely-related field and/or four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of regulatory compliance, workplace safety and employee training.

Specialist - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in occupational safety, regulatory affairs or closely-related field and/or eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of regulatory compliance, workplace safety and employee training, at least two years of which have involved administration of a comprehensive safety and/or regulatory compliance program.

The City of Dixon is recruiting to fill one full-time, permanent, mid-management position in the Finance Department. This classification is the advanced journey level, mid-management position in the accounting series. It is assigned a variety of broad, complex and sensitive professional level duties. It is distinguished from Accountant and Senior Accountant by the years of experience, complexity of work, and by participation in management and administrative activities of the Finance Department. Incumbents are expected to work with minimal supervision. Work involves supervising, training, assigning and evaluating other professional, technical and clerical positions. Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible accounting experience, preferably in a government setting and some supervisory experience.

Pleasant Hill is seeking an innovative, energetic, motivated and results-oriented leader to serve as the City’s Maintenance Superintendent.  The Maintenance Superintendent has full management responsibility of the Maintenance Division.  As a member of the City’s management team, the Maintenance Superintendent works closely with other division heads to maximize service delivery to the community. Core responsibilities include the overall administration and implementation of the Division, as well as development of Division objectives that support the City’s commitment to great customer service.  The successful candidate will possess a professional history that demonstrates the necessary attributes and qualities essential to achieve those objectives.

The Maintenance Division’s varied functions provide an opportunity to be involved in a wide-range of public works maintenance operations, including:

• Streets/Storm Drains—roadway maintenance activities such as pothole repair, catch basin cleaning and installation of traffic signs.
• Buildings/Facilities—general repairs, such as replacement and construction of framing for doors, walls, floors, roofing and windows, installation and repair of electrical systems and maintaining air conditioning, heating, and other stationary building equipment.
• Grounds/Landscaping—turf, shrub and tree care such as attending to weed control, irrigation and assorted plantings at City Hall and the Police Facility, as well as roadway medians throughout the City.
• Fleet/Equipment—servicing and repair, such as overhauling, adjusting and tuning patrol cars, other City vehicles, heavy construction equipment and assorted other power-driven equipment.  

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Oversee and direct the daily operations of the Maintenance Division to provide efficient maintenance service within prescribed budget.
• Develops, implements and coordinates divisional goals and objectives, policies and procedures.
• Prepares, administers, and monitors the maintenance services budget, including submitting budgetary recommendations and anticipating future budgetary needs.
• Develops long-range plans and objectives for the Maintenance Division; conducts a continuing review of activities to address and resolve problem areas and increase efficiency.
• Participates in a variety of personnel actions including selection, promotion, conflict resolution, performance evaluation, discipline, and dismissal.
• Reviews activity reports, monitors maintenance activities and inspects work while in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with policy and standards.
• Makes written recommendations regarding which projects should be contracted out and which should be performed by City staff; writes bid specifications and negotiates and writes contracts; may review and approve construction plans.
• Investigates public complaints and requests related to maintenance activities and makes determinations on action to be taken.  Responds to and resolves user complaints.
• Coordinates activities of the division within the Public Works Department and other City departments and outside agencies. 
• Sets work priorities, coordinates and schedules assignments, and establishes goals and objectives.  Develops plan for training and cross-training of subordinates.
• Inspects building and field conditions for safety hazards and maintenance needs and considers findings in the development of work plans.
• Supervises and participates in field activities during emergency situations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  Modern management, supervision and organization principles and practices; public works maintenance administration; and budgetary methods and procedures. Methods, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used in street, storm drain, equipment, building, grounds and landscape maintenance activities. Occupational hazards and related safety regulations.

Ability to: Plan, develop, organize, and administer a comprehensive maintenance program. Assist in the development of long-range plans for the City's maintenance functions. Supervise, train and evaluate assigned personnel. Analyze information and prepare written reports and recommendations. Communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Establish effective working relationships with employees, public officials, contractors and the general public in coordinating activities and resolving problems.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in facility management, building/landscape/street maintenance, construction or related field, including three years in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in construction technology, landscape architecture, engineering, public administration, business administration, or closely related field.

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class C California Driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

THE POSITION

The Street Maintenance Worker II will perform construction and maintenance work on City streets, roads, sidewalks and storm drains, including the installation, manufacture and maintenance of traffic signs, pavement markings and other non-electrical traffic control devices.  The incumbent may manage the work of a crew.

EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES

- Manage the work at a work site.
- Ensure that assigned tasks are accomplished.
- Report and explain delays; record time and work performed and materials used.
- Perform inspection for street re-surfacing public works projects.
- Clear and clean roadsides, gutters, culverts and other drainage facilities.
- Participate in the removal, repair and replacement of storm drainage pipe.
- Due to variety of outdoor settings, needs to be able to work in all weather and terrain conditions.
- Due to 24-hour maintenance needs, needs to be able to work at all times of day and night.
- Operate light and heavy motorized construction and maintenance equipment including graders, rollers, loaders, street sweepers, backhoes, compressors and pneumatic tools.
- Drive equipment to and from job sites.
- Load and unload equipment; inspect equipment.
- Excavate backfill, grade and roll construction and repair sites.
- Clean work sites and equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance, adjustments and minor repairs on equipment.
- Grease, lubricate and fuel vehicles.
- Change backhoe buckets and teeth.
- Tighten loose bolts and hydraulic couplings.
- Perform heavy physical labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects, shoveling, raking and pushing asphalt.
- Determine and participate in the establishment of traffic safety zone equipment.
