JOB DESCRIPTION: The Park Ranger Assistant provides information and assistance to the public and enforces laws, rules and regulations (including sections of the Fremont Municipal Code) pertaining to park and recreation facilities.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Responsible for patrol and general supervision of Central Park and its recreation facilities and picnic areas
• Give information and provide assistance to the public acting as a City of Fremont liaison
• As a Public Officer, may enforce the Fremont Municipal Code within the park system including issuing citations
• Knowledgeable of the rules, regulations and ordinances of the City of Fremont park operations
• Maintain continual radio communication with other staff
• Provide traffic and parking control as needed
• Provide emergency animal services
• Conduct historical and natural history interpretive programs for children and adults
• Responsible for patrol/supervision of other facilities/ parks throughout Fremont as needed
• Perform minor maintenance work on equipment and facilities

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years old; Over 21 preferred
• Must possess and retain a valid class C California Driver's License
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR & First Aid from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and negative TB test results are required

SELECTION PROCESS

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department seeks motivated, self-driven individuals passionate about working with the public. As a Senior Customer Service Representative, your role is pivotal in delivering exceptional service to our members and guests. As the primary point of contact, supervises part-time staff, enforces Silliman Center policies, assists in training staff, and serves as the primary contact for customers. The City of Hayward is seeking a Senior Utilities Engineer with a water and/or wastewater background to supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the Utilities Division. The Senior Utilities Engineer is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs engineering activities including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding, services during construction and construction management for a variety of projects in wastewater treatment, water storage and distribution, sewer collection, and storm water management. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of wastewater treatment and related water/wastewater infrastructure projects. This position will serve as a key member of the team that will manage and deliver a $100 million treatment system upgrade for the City’s Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) to incorporate nutrient removal into the treatment process.  
 
DEFINITION
Under general direction, supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the assigned functions and activities of the Engineering Section of the Utilities Division.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs all assigned activities of the Utilities engineering section, including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding process, services during construction and construction management for variety of projects in water distribution, sewer collection, storm water management, and wastewater treatment.  This position is distinguished from that of subordinate Associate Civil Engineer position by its responsibility for the supervision of assigned engineering and technical staff, in addition to engineering and technical responsibilities for project development, design, and construction management for more complex projects.  This position is distinguished from Deputy Director of Public Works for Utilities by the latter position's overall responsibility for all aspects of the Utilities Division functions.
 
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Assists in the development and implementation of the Engineering Section's goals, objectives, policies and priorities.
 
Plans, organizes, controls and evaluates the assigned functions and activities of the Engineering Section of the Utilities Division.
 
Provides direct and close supervision in the preparation of assigned master plans and studies that outline future water, wastewater and drainage requirements.
 
Prepares drawings, models, and displays for special studies and reports completed by the Utilities Division, and explores and studies the preparation of area wide master plans guiding future installations of major water and sewer facilities.
 
Directs the work and provides general supervision in the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates and the administration of contracts for small construction projects in utilities (e.g., small water main, sewer main and storm drainage projects).

Revises and updates standard specifications and details related to water and wastewater utilities.
 
Checks plans prepared by other agencies for conflict with the City's existing and proposed utilities systems.
 
Consults with and advises other City employees on utilities engineering matters.
 
Participates in the selection and supervision of private professional engineers for the development of plans and specifications, studies and reports.
 
Coordinates utilities engineering related activities with Engineering & Transportation Division, other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
 
Prepares reports and makes recommendations on the Utilities Division's portion of the City's capital improvement program.
 
Develops and recommends an annual budget and priority for assigned utilities projects.
 
Consults with contractors, builders, and engineers on problems relating to the design, construction, and maintenance of assigned utilities facilities.
 
Coordinates construction management of the Utilities Division's projects with the Engineering and Transportation Division staff.

Experience:  Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in professional engineering work in the design and construction of water and wastewater projects including one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
 
Education:   Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, or a closely related field with major work in civil engineering.  A master's degree is desirable.
 
Licenses and Certificates: Possession and maintenance of a certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer (Civil or Mechanical) in the State of California.
 
Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California driver's license.

• Plan, coordinate, and supervise special event traffic control.

The After School Instructor will plan, prepare, and instruct recreation activities (Instructor Aides will assist). Activities may include art, cooking, dance, STEM activities and other program areas. Programs are designed for children ages 6-12 years of age (school grades 2nd to 6th). Job site placement: Brier, Cabrillo, or Grimmer Elementary.

 

Schedule

Program End Date: Monday, June 6, 2022

Instructor Aide Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 2:30pm-6pm. Wednesday: 2pm-6pm.

Instructor Lead Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 2:00pm-6pm. Wednesday: 1:30pm-6pm.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (These duties are a general description and are not all inclusive.)

• Develop and submit lesson plans including class content and material needs.
• Reinforce instruction on an individual or small group basis by assisting or tutoring students.
• Lead organized activities to develop and strengthen youth academic, recreational, and social skills.
• Plan lessons and activities so they are appropriate to students with various abilities.
• Ability to requisition supplies and/or purchasing program supplies within City guidelines.
• Evaluate and provide constructive feedback on activities.
• Conduct creative and safe class meetings; instruct students on the safe and proper use of supplies, tools, and equipment.
• Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment.
• Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, students, and staff.
• Communicate with supervisor regarding classroom needs.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by a Program Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor. The Instructor Lead may supervise an Instructor Aide.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
• At least one year's experience working with children in an academic or recreation setting.
• Must be willing and able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality.
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Knowledge of youth education and recreation programs and methods of implementation.
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR & First Aid from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment
• Completion of two years of college or pass Paraprofessional/Instructional Assistant Exam

 

SELECTION PROCESS

Qualified application will be evaluated on the basis of related experience and quality of presentation.

The most highly qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview. Applicant evaluations may include a written and physical test. Satisfactory candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. Placements are anticipated immediately after the list is established. Some placements may be assigned to emphasize public education as the City's needs require.

Some positions may require a health evaluation.
