Information Technology Technician 

Hourly Rate: $38.2515 - $48.8196 (DOQ)

The Town of Los Gatos is recruiting for an IT Technician to work in a dynamic, customer service-oriented and fast-paced environment where problem solving, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and strong communication skills are a must. The IT Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades computer hardware, software, personal computer networks, peripheral equipment, and Town-wide electronic mail systems; assesses user training needs and trains users in effective use of applications; makes recommendations regarding hardware and software acquisitions; prepares documentation and provides user assistance to Town staff; and performs related work as required. This position will report to the IT Director. Schedule & Other Information: The IT Technician position is a temporary (up to 20 hours per week), at-will, non-benefited position limited to 999 hours of employment in a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). This position is not eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoots problems related to all local and wide area network systems, servers, firewall, computer workstations, operating and systems software; and data communications equipment.
  • Assists in projects assigned, including equipment moves, change in departmental software or hardware, network systems and/or operating systems changes; coordinates schedules.
  • Recommends and coordinates procurement, acquisition and support of computer hardware, software, voice and data communication systems and network security appliances.
  • Installs computer workstations, servers, printers and peripherals.
  • Installs,configures,andtroubleshootsofftheshelfsoftwareproducts.
  • Provides technical support for Internet and Intranet applications.
  • Responds to computer disruptions and failures.
  • Schedules vendor maintenance and repair activities.
  • Performs software reloads and upgrades for desktop computer systems.
  • Performs system backups and restores workstations and servers for Windows platforms.
  • Provides user support regarding operational, system, equipment and software questions and problems, implements system-wide security measures, performs diagnosis of hardware problems.
  • Provides support for critical systems such as public safety, financial management, geographic information system, and document management.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field such as computer science, information technology systems or a related field, and one year of experience in information systems and support.

Substitution: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in information systems and support may substitute the required education and completion of high school or equivalent.  Experience substitutions are determined at the discretion of the Town of Los Gatos.
