Description

What's the Role and What You'll Do
We’re looking for a highly motivated, reliable and skilled individual to join the Public Works Department as a Public Works Inspector I/II. Working with the City’s Engineering and Public Services teams, you will inspect work quality and materials used in a variety of streets and utilities infrastructure, public works construction projects, and development projects to ensure conformance with approved plans, specifications, and departmental regulations. You will join a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, helping the City complete an extensive list of municipal improvements. The detailed job description is available on the City’s website

What You'll Do
Review plans and specifications of assigned project; attend preconstruction conferences as assigned.


Inspect a variety of public works improvements such as utilities, streets, sidewalks, gutters, and other off-site construction; check line, grade, size, elevation, and location of structures for conformance with specifications and regulations.


Inspect a variety of public works construction projects such as City parks, traffic signals, roadway improvements, utilities, and building renovations. Verify conformance with project plans / specifications, and measure field quantities for payment.


Observe work during progress and upon completion; ensure that safety procedures are followed.
Monitor, inspect, and approve completion of work done under an excavation permit; ensure that all specified conditions are met.


Perform related duties as assigned.
 

 

The Essentials


Public Works Inspector I

Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade with courses in drafting and related mathematics.
 

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License.
 

Three years of public works construction experience.
 

 

Public Works Inspector II

Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade supplemented by courses in civil engineering or construction management.


Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License.


Eighteen (18) months public works inspection experience equivalent to Public Works Inspector I in the City of Mountain View.

 


Bonus Points

One year as a construction foreman or public works inspecting experience.


Registration as a California construction inspector.


Possession of a Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) certificate.
