Description
The Grant R. Brimhall Library and Newbury Park Library are seeking a Library Aide to assist in a variety of day-to-day tasks in support of the Library’s programs, operations, and services. The Library Aide will serve as the primary point of contact for patrons at the Circulation Desk, providing consistent, professional, and quality customer service.
This position will work from the Newbury Park Library, but will be expected to work at the Grant R. Brimhall Library as required. Day, evening, and weekend shifts will also be required.
The ideal candidate should have exceptional customer service skills, and demonstrate teamwork, excellent judgment, and the ability to interact with a wide range of individuals and groups.
Primary responsibilities:
- Assist library patrons at the Circulation Desk.
- Check materials in/out.
- Register patrons and issue library cards.
- Process overdue materials and routine fee transactions.
- Answer questions in person, over the telephone, and electronically.
- Provide general reference assistance and library information to patrons.
- Work with Library staff under supervision to help plan the logistics and implementation of community outreach projects. and/or enhancement patron services.
- Perform general clerical duties including processing, ordering, and organizing library materials and records.
- Prepare materials for circulation, assist with inventory management, and shelve materials as required.
- Assist in maintaining accurate bibliographic or patron records on the library’s databases; perform searching of databases as needed.
- Set up, take down, maintain, and operate audiovisual equipment and provide other support for programs and events, including setting up tables, chairs, or other items as required.

The ideal candidate also should possess:

- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Outstanding organization skills and efficiency.
- Strong working knowledge of library services, terminology, practices, systems and databases.
- Ability to work independently and with others in a collaborative environment; be a self-starter.
- Competency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, etc.) and ability to learn and use specialized library software, including Sierra Library Services Platform and Springshare Platform.
- One or more years of general office support and clerical experience; experience in a public library or front-facing retail environment is desirable.
- A valid California class C driver’s license is required.
