Description
The City of Dixon is recruiting to fill a full-time position of a Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works Parks Division and to establish an Eligibility List for future use.
Essential Job Functions When Assigned to Parks: Performs semi-skilled and skilled repair, maintenance and landscaping tasks involving City parks including irrigation system installation and maintenance; performs playground equipment inspection, maintenance and installation; performs graffiti removal; performs swimming pool maintenance; performs pesticide, herbicide and fungicide spraying; cleans and maintains park facilities, buildings and associated facilities. Positions operate equipment including, but not limited to, mowers, spray rigs, electric, air and hydraulic powered hand tools, hedge-shears, blowers, weed eaters, and chain saws.
Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series and positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience.
Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series and is distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties.

EXAM PROCESS: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience may participate in an interview process (weighted 100%). The most qualified candidates from this process will be placed on an employment eligibility list. Note: the examination process may be changed as deemed necessary.
EMPLOYMENT PROCESSING: Those selected will be subject to a pre-employment medical and Live Scan. In accordance with Federal law, an employee must provide proof of identity and legal right to work in the United States.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS will be applied. A copy of the DD214 form must be filed at the time of application.

MAINTENANCE WORKER I:
Knowledge & Abilities:
Knowledge of uses and purposes of general construction and maintenance tools, materials and equipment; safe working practices.
Ability to learn semi-skilled and skilled tasks involving the maintenance and repair of public works facilities; perform heavy manual labor; understand and carry out oral and written directions; maintain a safe working environment; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course work; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Education & Experience:
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience: None required; experience performing repair and maintenance tasks related to assignment is highly desirable.
Other Requirements:
This position requires possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License within 30 days of appointment and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
Some positions may require possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Pesticide Applicator's Certification based on assignment.
MAINTENANCE WORKER II:
In addition to the qualifications for a Maintenance Worker I:
Knowledge & Abilities:
Knowledge of the safe operation of a variety of power and construction equipment including, but not limited to, trucks, loaders and related equipment; tools, methods and materials used in street and storm drain, parks, and building repair and maintenance.
Ability to independently perform semi-skilled and skilled duties related to the maintenance and repair of public works facilities; maintain records; safely operate hand and construction tools and equipment.
Education & Experience:
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience equivalent to Maintenance Worker I or Utilities Maintenance Worker I in the City of Dixon.
Other Requirements:
In addition to the Other Requirements listed for a Maintenance Worker I, some positions may require the ability to obtain a Class B or A Driver's License within one year, as designated by management.
Benefits
Full-Time Permanent Employees in this classification are represented by Public Employees Union, Local One. This contract is currently in negotiations, and salary and some benefits may be subject to change.
BENEFIT INFORMATION
CalPERS TIER DEFINITIONS - MOU INTERPRETATION OF CALPERS TIERS
CalPERS Annuitants are limited to only 960 hours in a fiscal year, and this position is full-time.
Retirement: CalPERS Retirement System (2 % @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members). The City does not participate in social security.
Medical: CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs. City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance. Maximum Family Medical Benefit Allowance (2025): $2,025 per month.
Bilingual Pay: $100 per month upon certification.
Special License Incentive: $100 per month for employees with a Commercial A License.
