Description

We are excited to announce an exciting career opportunity working as a Property Technician in the Police Department.

The Police Department is seeking a Property Technician. This role involves managing and maintaining the integrity of all evidence and property collected by our law enforcement officers. If you have meticulous organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards in law enforcement, we want you on our team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Receive, catalog, and store evidence and property in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Ability to learn effective use of the enterprise software system used to manage a large inventory of a multitude of items.
  • Maintain accurate records of all items, ensuring a chain of custody is preserved.
  • Assist law enforcement personnel in locating and retrieving evidence for investigations and court proceedings.
  • Coordinate the disposal or release of items in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure the accuracy and completeness of records.

 

                                 POSITION DETAILS:

  • Full-Time regular position
  • 4/10 work schedule (four 10-hour shifts)
  • Salary range $24.32 - $31.01 hourly plus Excellent Benefits

 

                        MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education/Training:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in criminal justice or a related field.

Experience:

  • Two years of clerical or support experience in law enforcement, records management, or a related field.
  • Experience working in property or evidence is highly desirable.

License or Certificate:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of certification as a Property and Evidence Specialist desirable.

                                  IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in receiving, cataloging, storing, and releasing property and evidence to ensure the integrity of the chain of custody.

  • Exhibit strong organizational skills, effectively managing a large and diverse inventory using enterprise software and digital information systems.

  • Uphold the highest standards of integrity and compliance, following all federal, state, and local laws, departmental policies, and safe work practices in handling property and evidence.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing, when assisting law enforcement personnel, other agencies, and members of the public.

  • Handle firearms and sensitive materials safely and confidently, ensuring proper documentation and lawful disposal of weapons, narcotics, and other restricted items.

  • Adapt to evolving technologies and procedures, learning new systems quickly and applying them to improve efficiency and accuracy.

  • Conduct thorough audits and inventories, identifying discrepancies and resolving issues with sound judgment and accountability.

  • Work collaboratively with officers, staff, and external partners while maintaining effective working relationships built on trust and professionalism.

  • Provide excellent customer service, assisting the public with property inquiries and ensuring respectful, timely, and accurate responses.

  • Show initiative and reliability, taking ownership of responsibilities and contributing to the overall success of the Police Department’s property and evidence operations.
