The Public Works Department is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services. Position Duties
The total salary range(s) for these classifications are:
Construction Inspector I: $78,514.80 - $95,659.20
Construction Inspector II: $ 88,866.96 - $108,217.20
Associate Construction Inspector $100,332.96 - $121,954.56
This range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.
The Department of Public Works is currently seeking to fill one full-time vacancy in the Engineering Services Division.
The Associate Construction Inspectors assigned to the Construction Management Services-Utility (CMS-Fee) Section is responsible for technical inspection services to ensure compliance with City and State Standards and Specifications. The CMS-Fee Section supports the work being performed by utility companies to construct public infrastructure that will be operated and maintained by the City including storm and sanitary facilities, streets, curb/gutter/sidewalk, street lights, traffic signals, etc. Typical duties of an Associate Construction Inspector in this section include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Reviews plans and specifications to determine proper testing requirements and standards.
- Inspects methods and materials used in the construction of streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, storm drains, catch basins, driveways, approaches, culverts, sewers, landscaping, etc. for compliance with plans.
- Inspects actual field construction from rough grading to finished paving of streets, including installation of storm and sanitary sewer systems, concrete structures, utility installations, street lights, traffic signal systems, etc.
- Schedules final inspections and recommends acceptance of projects.
- Determines the acceptability of materials, especially when there is a question of inferior quality, including researching and reviewing records, logs, and data of various kinds.
- Ensures conformance to Cal/OSHA safety regulations, including shoring of trenches, proper use of equipment and machines, and adequate public traffic control.
- Employees may be required to lift test equipment, tools and construction materials with the use of proper equipment.
- Performs Public Works emergency duties, such as flood watch when required.
- Investigate and respond to construction inquires/complaints from other departments or the public.
- Be a mentee for Senior Construction Inspector and assigned to specific inspection area.
- Be available to work various shifts; day, nights and weekends.
