Description
Camp Newark is seeking a confident, creative, and organized leader to serve as an Activity Coordinator for our dynamic summer camp program. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in high-energy environments and are passionate about creating meaningful experiences for youth ages 6–11.
The Activity Coordinator plays a key leadership role in planning and delivering engaging daily programming while supporting and supervising camp staff. This position requires strong communication, organization, and leadership skills, along with the ability to create a fun, structured, and safe camp environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Create, schedule, and implement creative camp activities for youth ages 6–11, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and STEM-based enrichment.
Lead, mentor, and evaluate camp counselors, including training and delegating responsibilities.
Coordinate daily camp schedules, special events, and field trips.
Maintain clear and professional communication with parents regarding camper experiences and program information.
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants.
Support overall camp operations and assist with problem-solving as needed.
This position requires working both indoors and outdoors in a fast-paced summer camp setting.
WORK SCHEDULE
Summer-only position (June – August)
Monday–Friday
30–35 hours per week
Applicants should be available throughout the majority of the summer season, with limited vacation time (less than one week preferred).
Interviews will take place through early May 2026. Virtual interviews are available for applicants away at school.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years of age.
City application (only accepted via CalOpps).
Prior experience working with school-age children is required.
Must successfully pass a TB test prior to appointment (at candidate’s expense).
Required to submit to a City Fingerprint Background Investigation.
In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, all employees must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or authorization to work in the United States.
All new employees are required by law to sign a loyalty oath.

Benefits
This is a non-benefited, part-time, seasonal, temporary position. Temporary employees will only work up to 1,000 hours per year.
PART-TIME BENEFITS:
- Sick Leave: After 90 days from an employee’s hire date, the employee is entitled to 5 days (40 hours) sick leave per fiscal year. Sick hours do not roll over to the next year and therefore must be utilized or forfeited annually.
RETIREMENT:
- Temporary employees will be required to contribute to a Nationwide Deferred Compensation Plan.
TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE STATUS:
- Employment may be terminated with or without cause or notice, at any time, at the will of the City of Newark, in its sole discretion.
