THE POSITION
The position of LANDSCAPE GARDENER performs on a variety of semi-skilled and skilled gardening and turf maintenance in a team-based environment. The Landscape Gardener will be involved in the development, maintenance and repair of landscaped areas and will operate a variety of landscape maintenance equipment.
A few typical duties may include the following:
- Perform general grounds and facility maintenance work such as raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, and cleaning restrooms.
- Water, weed, trim, renovate and fertilize shrubs, trees, flowerbeds and landscaped areas.
- Maintain and prepare athletic fields.
- Assist in maintenance/installation of irrigation systems and setting clocks.
- Recognize plant pests and diseases.
- Apply herbicides and pesticides.
- Drive vehicles used to transport materials, tools, and equipment as required.
- Operate power equipment; move/install recreation equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance on mowing equipment and tools.
- Operate a computer for automated work systems.
- Respond to inquiries from the public.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have one year of continuous experience performing a variety of landscape maintenance work plus taken technical courses in horticulture or a related field. Will embrace the City’s emphasis on excellent customer service, will be detail-oriented and be able to multi-task; will use initiative and independent judgement; will be a team player who likes working with a variety of City staff and the public.
