The City of Sausalito is seeking qualified candidates for the Position of

INTERN

for our Administration Department

Salary: $28.00 Hourly

Part-Time/ limited to a maximum of 960 hours in a fiscal year.

This position is onsite at city offices and city-owned property

At the City of Sausalito, we are committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility in our municipal operations. As an Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting our City's departments and making a positive impact on our community.  Interns perform routine and/or general assistance tasks with variable difficulty. 

This recruitment seeks a team to support the City Clerk in a citywide digitizing project involving historical files, records, maps, drawings, and related materials.  The project runs from October through December with team members working between 16~36 hours per week, depending on their availability and preferences.  Team members will work collaboratively in groups of three to four and must have the ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.

 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook), have basic administrative office experience, ready be adept at handling confidential information with discretion, have effective customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assists with a wide variety of tasks within a City department.
  • Provides document management support such as sorting, scanning, filing, shredding, and purging.
  • Provides front counter reception.
  • Performs data collection and data entry.
  • Performs data compilation and analysis.
  • Assists with field work under close supervision.
  • Responds to inquiries from the public.
  • Writes correspondence and reports.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Office methods such as filing and record keeping systems.
  • Microsoft Office Suite products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Office equipment, including printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, etc.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Principals of mathematics.

Ability to:

  • Organize, establish priorities, and set goals and objectives.
  • Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds as well as bend, stoop, and reach as needed to handle physical records and materials.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Analyze facts and make mathematical computations.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Define problems, collect data, evaluate facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Follow oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Represent the City of Sausalito in a professional manner.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Read and write English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance.
  • Adjust to workload changes and work under stress to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: Currently enrolled as a junior or senior in high school and have the ability to obtain a work permit.

OR

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level program at an accredited college or university.

OR

Graduated with a degree from an accredited college or university within the past twenty-four months.

Experience: No experience required. Specific intern project assignment knowledge is desired.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

The ability to convey oneself to and from geographical locations frequently and timely, or possession of a valid CA driver’s license.

Benefits

This position does not receive any benefits other than California paid sick leave which is available after thirty (30) days of employment at the rate of one (1) hour for every 30 hours worked.

SELECTION PROCESS:
