Are you outgoing, community-minded, and passionate about public safety?

We’re looking for individuals to serve as Crossing Guards—a rewarding role that makes a direct impact in our neighborhoods by helping children cross busy intersections safely.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist school children in safely crossing streets using hand-held stop signs or mechanical signals

  • Maintain order among children at designated crossing points

  • Ensure crossings occur only when safe

  • Report vehicles violating school crosswalk laws to Community Services or the Simi Valley Police Department

  • Promote safety awareness among school children

                                    POSITION DETAILS:

  • Temporary, Part-Time Position
  • Salary Rate: $16.50 hourly

                             MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities, along with the following special requirements:

Education/Training:

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience:

  • Some experience working with children is desirable.

License or Certificate:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, appropriate, valid first aid and C.P.R. Certificates.
    • Must possess good hearing ability across a frequency range from 500 Hz to 3,000 Hz. Hearing levels meeting these requirements in the better ear, either with or without a hearing aid, will be acceptable. If an individual meets the criteria by using a hearing aid, then he/she must wear that hearing aid and have a spare power source for the hearing aid.
    • Must possess corrected vision of20/40 minimum, with no color blindness.
    • A medical examination may be required before appointment and as a condition of continuing employment with the City.

  • Availability for temporary, part-time, or substitute shifts

  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to remain calm and use good judgment in emergencies.
  • Basic first aid knowledge is desirable.
  • Experience using a two-way radio is desirable.
