Step into a pivotal role at the heart of criminal case preparation and crime analysis with the City of Simi Valley. As an Investigative Assistant, you’ll support detectives, prosecutors, and police personnel by gathering and analyzing critical information, reviewing reports for accuracy, preparing cases for filing, and helping ensure evidence and documentation move seamlessly through the justice system. Whether assisting with investigative work in the Detectives Bureau or supporting data‑driven crime analysis efforts, you’ll play a key part in strengthening public safety and supporting the City’s mission with precision, professionalism, and integrity.
POSITION DETAILS:
- Salary range: $28.16 - $35.94 hourly with Excellent Benefits
- 3% Cost of Living Adjustment increase on 6/29/26
- Generally, salary placement is at the beginning of the salary range.
- Advanced placement may be granted depending on related education and experience.
- 3% Cost of Living Adjustment increase on 6/29/26
- Regular full-time position
- 4/10 work schedule which includes working evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by coursework or training in criminal justice, legal assisting, or a related field.
Experience:
- Two years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience in a law enforcement agency.
License or Certificates:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Complete a Court and Temporary Holding Facilities Course (Title 15 §1024) within the probation period.

- Technical proficiency, including the ability to learn and use specialized law enforcement databases, statistical tools, and digital evidence systems.
- Adaptability, with the ability to adjust to changing procedures, new technologies, and evolving investigative needs.
- Commitment to accuracy and integrity, especially when handling evidence, preparing reports, or testifying in court.
