Overview:
To perform the most complex technical and/or administrative assignments in the analysis, policy development, implementation and administration of water supply and/or resource management work; to serve as a lead coordinator, facilitator, and/or contributor for complex water supply projects and analysis related to Bay-Delta issues affecting Valley Water's imported water supplies; to coordinate with external agencies as well as Valley Water's internal divisions/units on communication and planning efforts and to perform related work as assigned. May serve in a supervisory role depending on business need.

Valley Water is a public agency with an operating and capital budget of $964 million, and over 900 employees. With headquarters in San José, Valley Water provides water supply, enhances streams and watersheds through creek restoration and habitat protection, provides flood protection for homes, schools, businesses and roadways, and partners with other agencies to provide trails and open space for the community.Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Participation in or leading the development of new water supply and conveyance projects, such as the Delta Conveyance Project and new storage projects.
- Protect Valley Water’s water supply reliability as they may be affected by regulatory and policy processes affecting State and federal project operations.
- Representing the District in forums discussing water quality, ecosystem conservation, and environmental and water supply planning processes.
- Providing technical support to analyze State and Federal water project operations and development of transfer and exchange agreements.
- Coordinating with Valley Water communication staff on messaging and public outreach efforts.
- Supporting State and federal agency and public water agency collaborative processes.
- Planning, directing, coordinating and participating in studies related to imported water management and Valley Water water supply planning.
- As requested, plan, direct, coordinate and participate in studies related to imported water management, protection of existing imported water resources, and possible identification of expanded imported water resources, including participation in new and ongoing water supply projects.
- Coordinate with District planners to evaluate other related plans and objectives to ensure that the information necessary for determining strategic directions related to water resource planning is available to District management.

Ideal Experience:
- Six (6) years of professional level experience with responsibility for compliance with environmental permitting, water supply or environmental planning, natural resources management, or hydrogeology.
- Experience working with external agencies (governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, educational, regulatory, and legislative organizations).
- Experience reviewing/commenting on water supply contracts, water supply planning documents, environmental review documents, legal documents, and/or legislation.
- Experience working with a public water utility is desirable.

- Experience reviewing/commenting on water supply contracts, water supply planning documents, environmental review documents, legal documents, and/or legislation.
- Knowledge of regulations affecting State and federal water supply operations and relation to aquatic ecosystems.
- Experience working with external agencies (governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, educational, regulatory, and legislative organizations).
- Experience working with a public water utility.
- Ability to evaluate computer models.
- Knowledge of master planning.
Ideal Training and Education:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in water resources management, environmental engineering, natural resources management, biological or natural sciences or a related field.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. Individuals who do not meet the driver's license requirement due to a disability will be considered for a reasonable accommodation on a case-by-case basis.

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.
This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.
