Description

The Position

The City of Fremont is seeking a full-time Urban Forestry Service Corps Supervisor. This position is temporary, starting January 6, 2025, and ending December 19, 2025. This position works five days a week supervising and instructing small cohorts of Urban Forestry Service Corps members through a combination of in-class learning and in-the-field service projects. This position reports to the city Urban Forestry Manager.

Examples of Duties

  • Educate corps members on a variety of topics related to urban forestry.
  • Develop instructional materials.
  • Plan urban forestry service projects.
  • Supervise and instruct corps members during completion of service projects.
  • Assist in grant-related administrative activities such as data collection and reporting.
  • Ensure safety of service members and high quality of work.

Ideal Candidate

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in arboriculture, forestry, botany, or other related field.

Experience

  • At least five (5) years of experience that has allowed the applicant to gain the level of knowledge necessary to educate corps members on a wide variety of urban forestry topics including, but not limited to: tree identification, tree biology, soils, plant health, safety, tree planting, and tree maintenance.
  • At least five (5) years of experience that has allowed the applicant to gain the level of knowledge necessary to instruct and supervise corps members during service projects in the following categories including, but not limited to: tree planting, tree pruning, young tree establishment, and community outreach and education.

Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements

ISA Certified Arborist by date of hire is required.

Possession of the Following is Highly Desirable

  • Experience working with disadvantaged communities.
  • Experience working within a grant-funded program.
