ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is hiring two part-time Recreation Specialist positions, each with a distinct focus. One position will support Youth, Adaptive, and Senior programs, while the other will focus specifically on serving the East Gilroy neighborhood with various recreation programs. Both roles will involve leading programs for socio-economically disadvantaged youth, teens, and adults, managing part-time staff, program planning, administering grants, and collaborating with local organizations and public agencies.
 
Under general supervision of a Recreation Manager, Recreation Supervisor, or Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Specialist will plan, organize, and direct the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program areas include but are not limited to: Adaptive (special needs), Adult and/or Youth Sports such as organized leagues or classes, After School Program, Cultural Arts, Facility Attendant, Senior Center, Special Events, Summer Camps, Theater, and Youth Center/Youth Services. This is an entry-level, paraprofessional position supporting the Recreation Division.

The City of Dixon is preparing for the 2025 Aquatic season and is recruiting qualified Lifeguard/ Swim Instructor I/II applicants.

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Senior Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, Lifeguard/Swim Instructor performs a variety of duties to ensure the City of Dixon swimming pool is a safe and enjoyable aquatic facility. Supervises pool patrons, enforces pool rules, performs first aid and emergency rescues, instructs swim lessons, performs cashiering duties, leads recreational activities; performs related and other work as required.

Staff may be expected to work weekends and on fixed holidays.  Those who work on a City Holiday will earn 1 1/2 times their base hourly salary.

This position is subject to random controlled substance testing and/or breath alcohol testing.

Employment Processing: Those selected are subject to pre-employment drug testing and fingerprinting. In accordance with Federal law, an employee must provide proof of identity and proof that they may legally work in the United States.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

California Education Code Section 10911.5 requires that all public recreation program employers must fingerprint all persons having direct contact with a minor. The City does not hire persons who have been convicted of felony drug, sexual assault or physical assault crimes.

THE POSITION
The City of Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced Swim Team Coach for Campbell Wave Swim Team, ages 6-18 years old, at the Campbell Community Center. This position reports to the Aquatics Recreation Specialist. 

Salary Range: $17.00 to $25.00 per hour DOQ

Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited position

Schedule: Actual work schedule to be determined through mutual agreement with supervisor. Employee may be required to work weekends.

Location: Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Avenue, Campbell

Responsibilities: 

• Swim team coordination with Aquatics Recreation Specialist;  
• Prepares and implements work-outs;
• Tracks and encourages team enrollment;
• Maintains various records;
• Organizes and attends swim meets;
• Evaluates stroke technique;
• Assists with budget preparation;
• Has thorough knowledge of emergency response protocol, risk management and emergency care
• Complies and enforces all City of Campbell and Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department policies and procedures.

In addition, the essential functions of employment include:

• Assistance in developing, organizing and supervising daily operations and practices;
• Assistance in evaluating Campbell Wave swim team program;
• Documentation including daily participant attendance;
• Planning, execution and evaluation of swim meet participation;
• Professional interaction and effective communication with children, swimmers and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum age at time of hire is 18 years old.
• Two (2) or more years of swim coaching experience
• Valid California Driver’s license.
• Current CPR certification.
• Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard Training certification.
• TB Clearance.
• Fingerprint clearance (Department of Justice background check). The City of Campbell will schedule fingerprint appointment and encumber cost upon hire.

Highly desirable, but not mandatory upon hiring: 

• Professional certification(s), including American Swim Coaches’ Association or USA
• Swimming Coaching, CPR, Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard Training.

THE POSITION
Under the general supervision of the Campbell Community Center Supervisor, the Building Attendant oversees proper use and rental activity at the City of Campbell Community Center and other City facilities. The Building Attendant assignments include working special events at various City facilities. The Building Attendant performs basic custodial duties (moving tables, chairs, set-up AV equipment, set-up athletic equipment, moping, sweeping, empty trashcans, etc.), ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of the facilities. The Building Attendant work schedule is primarily during the late afternoon/evening hours Monday - Friday, and on weekdays (both day/evening shifts). Occasional week-day shifts may be available.

Salary Range: $15.50 to $18.00 per hour DOQ
Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited position

Schedule:  Approximately 8-20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours

Responsibilities: 

• Provides customer service to community center renters, class instructors and the general public at the Campbell Community Center;
• Opens buildings for scheduled events, performs set-up/take-down of tables, chairs, portable staging, dance floors, AV equipment, and other set-up equipment; supervises evening and weekend activities at the Community Center;
• Performs custodial tasks (emptying trash containers, cleaning tables, chairs, and restrooms, sweeping floors, etc.) as assigned. 
• Are responsible for the security of the site, as well as providing good public and customer relations;
• Additional responsibilities, as needed, may be assigned.

Qualifications: 

• Must be 18 years of age and equivalent to high school graduation.
• Must have a valid California Driver's License. 
• Must demonstrate the ability to work independently, follow oral and written instructions, display courteous public relations, and demonstrate safety and good judgment. 
• Previous experience in recreation, building maintenance, or customer service work is preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION  

The Program Coordinator for is a unique position that is primarily responsible for planning and coordination of all aspects of the ASES funded After School Academy (ASA) program. ASA provides students in grades 1st through 6th a safe space for expanded learning. Every day students have the opportunity to make social connections, experience enriching activities, and receive academic assistance. Students socialize and connect with our team and their peers daily. ASA supports students every school day immediately after school until 6pm. Our goal is to improve student’s social, emotional, and academic potential through community, education, recreation, and enrichment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Coordinate all aspects of a After School Academy program
• Establish and maintain program records and computer databases
• Supervise and assign programming tasks to instructors and volunteers
• Maintain regular communication with school principals, teachers, and parents regarding student needs
• Provide regular program updates including written reports to Supervisor in a timely manner
• May work independently or in a team environment depending on program requirements
• Provide expertise and support to Supervisor
• Enforce City policies and procedures
• May be required variable hours including evenings and weekends
• Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by the Recreation Supervisor. Program Coordinator will provide general supervision of Lead Instructors, instructors and volunteers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must possess one of the following: forty-eight (48) college semester units, AA Degree or higher
• Relevant technical skill, education, experience or expertise
• Experience assisting with implementation of children and/or youth programs and activities.
• Ability to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitude toward others
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Excellent organizational and supervisory skills, be resourceful, flexible and able to work both alone or as a team member
• Must be reliable and be able to provide transportation
• Available to work Monday through Friday, 12:00pm-6:00pm schedule.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree with teaching experience preferred
• Experience in implementation and programming of ASES grant funded programs
• Ability to frequently interpret and translate a language other than the English language among students, parents and school-based staff members

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR & First Aid from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment

SELECTION PROCESS

Qualified application will be evaluated on the basis of related experience and quality of presentation.

The most highly qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview.  Applicant evaluations may include a written and physical test.  Satisfactory candidates will be placed on an eligibility list.  Placements are anticipated immediately after the list is established.  Some placements may be assigned to emphasize public education as the City’s needs require.

Some positions may require a health evaluation.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for part-time Recreation Leaders II/III assigned to the Adaptive Program. The main goal of the City of Gilroy’s Recreation Division is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents. 
 
Under direct supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader II/III will assist, plan, organize, and lead the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program area focus is Adaptive (Special Needs), but you might be asked to support another recreation area.

 When assigned to the Adaptive Program, the leader will have an opportunity to have hands-on experience working with a special needs population.  Disabilities of participants vary in range from non-communicative to diminished motor skills to severe autism.  The position will report to an experienced staff member.  As related experience is gained as noted in the job qualifications and requirements, and with the recommendation in the employee’s performance evaluation, Recreation Leaders can advance from Recreation Leader II to Recreation Leader III.  As the employee advances through the job series the employee will take on more responsibility and more challenging work assignments.
