THE POSITION

Library Aides provide customer service to library visitors. Duties include checking items in and out at the Checkout Desk, opening new library accounts, collecting fines and fees, shelving materials, and assisting library visitors in finding materials and using the computers. Other tasks may include processing materials, providing storytimes for children, and assisting with other public programs for children, teens and adults. This is an ideal job for someone who is friendly, computer savvy, enjoys working with the public, putting things in order, and is detail-oriented. Bilingual skills are desirable.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, to do library clerical, technical and customer service work, and related assignments as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Check materials in and out, sort materials, open new library accounts, explain library policies and resolve disputes, collect fines and fees, assist library patrons with self-checkout and public-use computers, printers, photocopiers, and scanners, answer routine information questions, complete opening and closing procedures, and perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  Modern office and record-keeping procedures; use of office equipment and technology; numerical and alphabetical filing; basic mathematical principles.

Ability to: 

Provide excellent customer service; apply and explain library policies; communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; perform basic troubleshooting and assist patrons with computer use; adapt to changing technology and working conditions; learn the Dewey Decimal Classification System and library procedures; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers; function under demanding time pressure; respond in a positive manner to supervision; and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

POSITION

The City of Daly City is looking for people interested in working 10-20 hours per week in a variety of settings selected by the Department of Library and Recreation Services. Our current openings are in the Recreation Division and may be in the areas of the Afterschool Youth Recreation Program, Aquatics Program or Facility Attendant. This position will report directly to the Recreation Program Coordinator or Recreation Program Supervisor and will work various hours throughout the week, including evenings and weekends

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, a Recreator III independently performs assigned tasks which serve the public use of municipal recreation facilities and other duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Open and close facilities following established guidelines, set up equipment needed for facility programs, perform routine maintenance and cleanup for assigned facilities, collect fees for facility use, maintain order and discipline in assigned facilities and programs by enforcing City and Departmental policies, may facilitate in assigned program areas, may supervise other part-time staff, volunteers, or court workers as assigned, and maintain accurate records and reports. May include specific assignments such as senior swim instructor, senior lifeguard, facility attendant and assisting with after school or summer programs. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: General facility operations, intermediate lesson instruction techniques for assigned area, and safety practices for assigned programs.

Ability to: Follow written and oral instructions, meet and communicate effectively with members of the public, carry out assignments requiring average physical strength such as setting up tables and chairs, learn and progress in this position, direct others, understand and enforce written and oral rules, regulations and policies, solve minor disciplinary problems, interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience: A minimum of two years working or volunteering with people in a customer service position.

Promote aquatic programs, assisting senior guard, and aquatics assistant. Conduct rescue operations and administer CPR and First Aid. Direct communication and contact with swimmers and the public.

Knowledge of:

Basic child guidance principles and practices. General techniques of various swim strokes.

Ability to:

Be active, lift and/or carry equipment and supplies. Work in a leadership role with children and adults

Emphasis Three: YOUTH PROGRAM LEADER:

Assists in preparing instructional, craft, and other materials; participates in, and encourages, play activities with the children; may assist in providing tutorial and/or remedial activities in small groups. Provides support duties for child development services in Youth Services programs; prepares and serves snacks based on established guidelines; performs clean-up and food storage duties. The Redwood City Police Department is currently accepting applications for Per-Diem COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHERS.  Using a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch terminal, the Communications Dispatcher receives emergency calls from within the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service; determine priority, and dispatch police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. The City of Redwood City seeks a Landscape Maintenance Worker who will assist in the maintenance of parks and landscaped areas.  Under supervision, the incumbent will operate a variety of landscape maintenance equipment and will perform the following duties:

• Perform a wide variety of general grounds and facility maintenance work including raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, cleaning restrooms, and related work.
• Water, weed, prune, renovate, and fertilize shrubs, trees, flowerbeds, and landscaped areas.
• Complete turf care including mowing, thatching, fertilizing, plugging, spraying, and installation of new turf areas with both seed and sod.
• Prepare soil and plant flowerbeds, shrubs, trees and landscape areas, including staking, fertilizing and other necessary procedures.

The Position:
This is complex lead level work involved in a central purchasing department related to the procurement of goods and services, including preparation of formal bid documents, facilitation of the activities of the bid process, selection of vendors, volume buying, inventory, assessing availability and quality of goods and services, and routine to complex procurements for the entire District according to prescribed methods. Public contact is extensive, primarily involving District and college staff at all levels, outside vendors, contractors, outside business representatives, other educational institutions, and external auditors for the purpose of exchanging product, procedural, timeline, and workflow information. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to interpret policies and procedures, and to provide input into the resolution of frequent minor and occasional major problems that occur. Duties and Responsibilities:

1. The Position:
The Accountant performs professional work involved in first line supervision of accounting functions, complex account development, maintenance, modification, and reporting. Under direction, the position is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles to analyze, maintain, reconcile and verify a variety of budgetary, accounting and other fiscal records. The position supervises daily operations in a variety of functional accounting areas and maintains adequate oversight and internal controls over such operations. Public contact is extensive and involves staff at various levels within the organization, local government agencies and other outside entities for the purpose of exchanging technical accounting procedural and policy information. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to analyze data and develop resolutions to a variety of minor and major problems that occur. The consequences of errors in judgment can be costly in employee time, public relations and/or institutional funding; however, administrative controls limit the risk of serious consequences in loss of revenue. The Senior Educational Facilities Planner (Sr. Planner) provides professional planning services that guide the physical development of the campus and assists in strategic development and improvement of buildings and space to support UCSC's mission of research, teaching, and public service. As a senior member of the unit, the Sr. Planner is the resident expert on campus and UC policy regarding capital matters, and provides assistance and support in all areas of planning for CPSM staff, campus leadership. They also act as liaison to the Office of Capital Planning at the UC Office of the President.

The Sr. Planner uses skills as a seasoned, experienced planning professional with a full understanding of industry practices and procedures to resolve a wide range of planning issues; uses advanced planning concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues; develops short and long range capital plans, demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for analyzing alternatives and recommending solutions; exhibits high levels of organization; recommends revisions to proceedures and policies to improve efficiency, and is able to operate with considerable independence.

The Sr. Planner provides high-level reports and analysis of campus space needs in an effort to ensure the efficient use of campus space; works with campus leadership and clients to provide in-depth programming, utilization and visioning studies for all types of campus space using a variety of planning tools: metrics, conceptual space plans, and test fit diagrams; coordinates with campus technical experts on the re-use of space; generates and manipulates large data sets, manages databases to comprehensively manage campus capital expenditures, leads and coordinates the annual updates to the multi-year Capital and Seismic Financial Plans, and generates analytics for capital planning, space management and capital outlay.

In addition, the Sr. Planner is responsible for generating or reviewing the technical and budget approval documents created by other planners to ensure that they are accurate and complete; has advanced proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office Suites, and working knowledge of AutoCAD and other communication and presentation software.

Capital Planning and Space Management (CPSM) is a unit within the Division of Business Administration (BAS.) The Division includes a broad and diverse set of operational units that provides and maintains administrative, student development and physical infrastructure that supports the mission of the campus. As a member of BAS, CPSM supports the Office of the Chancellor and Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor in the areas of capital financial planning and policy analysis. In this capacity, CPSM develops and maintains relevant databases, provides analyses of policies and programs, assists in the determination of campus priorities, and in the development of strategies designed to achieve these priorities. CPSM is responsible for capital planning, space management, programming, management and utilization aspects of the campus capital improvement and space management programs; coordinates with the Office of Budget Analysis and Planning regarding the capital budget, and the execution of special studies as may be necessary to enable the Chancellor and Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor to discharge his/her responsibilities in these areas.
