Salary

Child Care Aide: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.  

Child Care Associate Teacher: $19.50 - $25.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.

CHILD CARE AIDE

This position will work directly with a Child Care Site Coordinator or Lead Teacher at varying pre-school or K-6/ K-8 school sites based on program needs. The Child Care Aide is responsible for leading activities and supervising small groups of children in State-funded Title V programs.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department seeks motivated, self-driven individuals passionate about working with the public. As a Senior Customer Service Representative, your role is pivotal in delivering exceptional service to our members and guests. As the primary point of contact, supervises part-time staff, enforces Silliman Center policies, assists in training staff, and serves as the primary contact for customers. The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference! Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an in-person interview. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours September through April, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Lifeguards will ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies
• Maintaining constant surveillance of patrons in the facility
• Acting immediately and appropriately to ensure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency/Providing emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
• Performing various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
• Having a thorough knowledge of rescue techniques

THE POSITION
The City of Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced Swim Team Coach for Campbell Wave Swim Team, ages 6-18 years old, at the Campbell Community Center. This position reports to the Aquatics Recreation Specialist. 

Salary Range: $17.00 to $25.00 per hour DOQ

Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited position

Schedule: Actual work schedule to be determined through mutual agreement with supervisor. Employee may be required to work weekends.

Location: Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Avenue, Campbell

Responsibilities: 

• Swim team coordination with Aquatics Recreation Specialist;  
• Prepares and implements work-outs;
• Tracks and encourages team enrollment;
• Maintains various records;
• Organizes and attends swim meets;
• Evaluates stroke technique;
• Assists with budget preparation;
• Has thorough knowledge of emergency response protocol, risk management and emergency care
• Complies and enforces all City of Campbell and Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department policies and procedures.

• Assistance in developing, organizing and supervising daily operations and practices;
• Assistance in evaluating Campbell Wave swim team program;

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum age at time of hire is 18 years old.
• Two (2) or more years of swim coaching experience
• Valid California Driver’s license.
• Current CPR certification.
• Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard Training certification.
• TB Clearance.
• Fingerprint clearance (Department of Justice background check). The City of Campbell will schedule fingerprint appointment and encumber cost upon hire.

Highly desirable, but not mandatory upon hiring: 

• Professional certification(s), including American Swim Coaches’ Association or USA
• Swimming Coaching, CPR, Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard Training.

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers.  GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land. 

GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2019-2020 fiscal year budget of $7.9 million for general fund operations and Measure K funding amounting to $2.2 million.  The Measure K funding is being utilized to purchase necessary equipment, improve parks, facilities.

Job Description:

DEFINITION
Under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position manages Recreation staff, programmatic leadership, assigned area budget, and cross departmental collaboration. Top candidates will assist full-time and part-time staff with all Recreation related needs, community outreach, and perform a variety of technical tasks as directed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED EXERCISED

• Receive immediate supervision from higher level Recreation staff. Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees (1 or more full and part-time employees) including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/ effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed. 

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

• Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
• Plans, organizes, schedules, promotes, evaluates, and leads recreational activities in area of assignment.
• Reviews applications and enters reservations in recreation software. Schedules meetings with customers/general public, processes permits and payments, assists with event layouts, and enforces rules and regulations.

• Completes activity guide list and proposes new programs for the organization. Markets and advertises for new programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

• This position is relative free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards and requires medium physical effort. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Energetic and responsible leaders are needed to work with youth ages 4-17 (primarily 5-12) in a variety of camp and community service programs. The Camp Specialist is required to plan and implement sports, games, arts-n-crafts, dance and outdoor work projects.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by the Camp Director and the Recreation Supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must enjoy working with youth between the ages of 4 and 17 years old
• Must be able to meet the following physical requirements:
  • Must be able to work in changing climates (indoors and outdoors)
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs
  • Ability to be in the sun up to seven hours per day
  • Ability to do physical labor for three to four hours per day
• Must have basic knowledge of sports, games and crafts, etc.
• Must have ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships
