The Marysville Police Department is recruiting for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher.

Public Safety Dispatchers are tasked with dispatching first responders including police, fire and medical services.

Definition:

Under general supervision, the Communications Officer, as a member of the Police Department, transmits and receives information over the police and public works radio system; dispatches routine and emergency calls for service; types, records, and files information; handles emergency and non-emergency telephone calls utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD), and performs related work as assigned.

Examples of Essential Duties:

The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all inclusive for specific positions.

1. Receives emergency and non-emergency telephone calls from the public for police, fire, or other emergency services; determines the nature of the call and the resources necessary to respond.
2. Monitors police radio communications; maintains contact with police units to track officer status and respond to need for additional resources; monitors various radio channels to keep abreast of county-wide police activities affecting the City and assist other county agencies with mutual aid.
3. Prioritizes requests for police and other public safety services; determines availability and location of patrol units; transmits information and dispatches police personnel and equipment in response to calls; routes calls for fire and emergency medical assistance to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.
4. Assists police personnel in the field by quickly and accurately researching and relaying criminal history information and other requested data.
5. Communicates with callers to determine the nature of the call and provide appropriate assistance; maintains composure to ensure that complete and accurate information is transmitted to public safety and medical personnel.
6. Screens non-emergency calls for service; provides requested information or directs callers to the proper person, department or agency.
7. Updates and maintains electronic records and logs of data pertaining to calls and activities.
8. Receives and coordinates requests for emergency Public Works assistance outside of the City’s normal business hours (pertaining to full municipal services in Los Altos, and sewer maintenance requests in Los Altos Hills and the surrounding unincorporated areas).
9. Act in the place of records staff for after-hours walk-in visitors to the Police Department.
10. May assist with the training of new communications personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE OF: Standard office methods, procedures, software and equipment; Geography of the local area; General public safety communications practices; Principles of customer service.

SKILL AND ABILITY TO: Multi-task and prioritize; Efficiently use radio and other communications equipment; Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Analyze situations quickly and accurately; Maintain composure and work effectively under pressure; Understand and follow oral and written direction; Demonstrate initiative and exercise good judgment in the performance of duties; Establish, maintain, and promote positive working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; Work various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and intermittent shifts as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will require the ability to work rotating shifts on an on-going basis, including irregular hours on short notice. This position will also be assigned a uniform to wearing during work hours.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination of the listed experience and education requirements may lead to a qualifying application. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Possession of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
• Completion of college-level coursework is highly desirable .
• A minimum of one year of public safety dispatching and/or basic clerical experience is required.
• Possession of Basic P.O.S.T. Dispatch Certificate is highly desirable and may be substituted for work experience.

Salary and Benefits:

$93,138.24 – $113,210.11 annually DOE

This is a non-exempt position represented by the Police Officers Association.

• Retirement: CalPERS retirement plan for Classic members is 2% @ 60 with employee paying a contribution of 7%. PEPRA employees participate on a 2.0% @ 62 plan, with employee paying 6.75% of the retirement contribution. Benefits based on highest three years of compensation. The City does not participate in Social Security.
• Health Plans: Choice of HMO or PPO plans through CalPERS Health with most family plans covered at 100%. Employees who waive coverage may receive stipend of $350 per month.

The Fleet Management Division of the Public Works Department is seeking to fill two (2) overstrength Communications Installer positions. These positions are funded through June 30th, 2021.

Under general supervision of the Senior Automotive Equipment Specialist, typical duties of the Communications Installer include installing 2-way radios into a variety of vehicles, including but not limited to Police vehicles and motorcycles, Fire department apparatus and other city department vehicles.

Installations are to be industry accepted best practices including the selection of proper wire sizing based on electrical loading, equipment placement with emphasis on serviceability, proper wire routing, proper power distribution, antenna placement, and grounding/power return.

The Communications Installer will also be responsible for the installation of intercom systems, emergency/warning lighting, vehicle electronics, computer equipment and terminals, antennas, and custom installations of non-standard equipment. This equipment is commonly used in emergency vehicles and municipal equipment.

This position requires the following knowledge and abilities in order to be successful in the position:

-  Knowledge and ability to install and diagnose the systems and equipment similar to the City’s Fleet including sirens, light bars, accessory lighting, FLIR devices, Tracking systems, timers, and the knowledge to interface with those systems when necessary.

-  Ability to follow verbal/written direction, read/ interpret schematics, schematic symbols, and wire diagrams.

-  Ability to accurately document all non-standard installations, complete necessary paper work, installation forms, and data entry in a timely basis.

-  Ability to work effectively and communicate with the vendors on interconnection and installation. May be required to diagnose issues when necessary.

-  Ability to work in a team environment on large projects working within established labor standards to meet project completion goals.

-  Data entry in a fleet database

The Communication Installer may be required to work on weekends and/or holidays when necessary.

THE POSITION

The City of Dublin is currently seeking an experienced Communications Analyst (Management Analyst-II) to support and implement the City’s public information, media relations, and communications programs. THE CITY

The City of American Canyon is seeking an entry level Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of maintenance and construction duties and operates public works/parks equipment.  Initial hire and assignment will be for the Park’s division.  Maintenance Worker I’s may advance to the Maintenance Worker II level with a salary range of $4,625-$5,620 per month, after a minimum of two years of successful service and upon the recommendation of the supervisor.

THE POSITION

Maintenance Worker I is an entry-level class position. Initially, under close supervision, incumbents learn basic maintenance, construction, and safety procedures. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines and incumbents are expected to perform a broader scope of duties.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to:

• Provide manual labor as directed, including digging holes, removing trees, raking, removing trash/litter/debris/graffiti, and planting trees and shrubs.
• Take daily pool readings and perform maintenance activities including cleaning injection systems and strainers, replacing chemical injection lines, and adjusting chemical dosages.
• Perform carpentry work to replace or repair wooden fences, picnic tables, benches, signs, and par course facilities.
• Plant, prune, and maintain plants and trees.
• Assist in the repair and maintenance of irrigation facilities including controllers, drip systems, pipes, and sprinkler heads.

Operate and maintain tractor, flail mower, aerator, and fertilizer spreader.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey level class in the Tree Trimmer series and is distinguished from the I level by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

This class is distinguished from the Senior Tree Trimmer in that the latter performs advanced journey level work and provides technical and functional supervision to assigned staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives immediate supervision from an assigned supervisor; receives technical and functional supervision from the Senior Tree Trimmer or Arborist Technician.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Using aerial lift and through skilled climbing, trim and structurally prune trees to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs and lights as well as to ensure the continued health of the trees.
• Perform tree trimming using chainsaws, hand/pole saws and loppers; remove trees, stumps, hangers, branches and related debris; perform stump grinding and plant healthcare duties.
• Plant, spray, stake and maintain trees on City owned property and in the public right-of–way.
• Operate tree trimming and maintenance equipment such as boom trucks, chippers, stump grinders, and power tools, such as chain saws and hydraulic loppers.
• Clean, sharpen, maintain tools, ropes, and other tree maintenance equipment.
• Collect debris from tree trimming and removal operations into piles, using shovels, rakes, or other tools.

• Inspect trees for public safety and wildlife; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California driver’s class B license by date of promotion or appointment.

THE POSITION

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the temporary and part-time position of Parks and Open Space Equipment Operator in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department.  The normal work schedule may include evenings and weekends.  Candidates hired will work one of two schedules:  Seasonal employees are limited to a maximum of 1,000 hours over a 5 month seasonal period.  1,000 Hour employees are limited to 25 hours per week for a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year.  While the current vacancy is for a 1,000 hour position, this recruitment may be used to fill 1,500 hour positions in the future.

DEFINITION

• Prepare and condition City operated softball and baseball diamonds.
• Maintain, mow, and clean parks and playground facilities, restrooms and surrounding areas.
• Repair and maintain park and landscape irrigation systems.
• Maintain municipal swimming pool pumps, filters, and related equipment; monitor and apply chemicals; refer to appropriate staff for further attention.

When assigned to Open Space Maintenance:

• Assist in vegetation management; assist in tree care, creek, preserve and natural resource maintenance.
• Maintain bike trails, power tools, and irrigation systems.
• Operate tree care equipment such as chippers, stump grinders, power tools and other related equipment.
• Perform data collection/GPS in preserves and open space areas, creeks, and the urban forest.
• Perform pesticide application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Basic methods, tools, and equipment used in natural resource and grounds maintenance.
• Basic principles and practices of record keeping.
• Principles and practices of safety management.

Ability to:

• On a continuous basis, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, and reach while operating equipment and perform maintenance and/or construction activities; perform heavy manual labor; operate a variety of hand and power tools used in maintenance activities; know and understand maintenance operations and/or construction projects, observe safety rules.
• Intermittently, analyze equipment problems; identify safety hazards; remember and locate equipment and tools; may interpret and explain work orders; sit while completing work papers; travel from job-site to job-site sitting in assigned vehicle or on equipment; lift or carry cement bags, fertilizer sacks and/or bags of chalk weighing 50 pounds or less.
• Learn to perform semi-skilled tasks in a variety of maintenance activities.

Training:

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade GED, or higher level degree; additional course work and training in maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, natural resource management or related field is highly desirable.

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license by date of application. 
• Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates within six (6) months of hire.
