The City of Half Moon Bay is a Bay Area coastal community of approximately 12,500 residents and is located 25 miles south of San Francisco. The City is governed by a five-member elected City Council and utilizes the council-manager form of government. The City Council appoints a City Manager who is responsible for the oversight of daily operations and provides leadership for the City’s programs. About the Position

The Public Works Department is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern with an interest in engineering, project management, and public service. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in local government operations and civil engineering under general supervision and mentorship from professional staff.

The selected intern will assist with a variety of projects and ongoing assignments, which may include but are not limited to:

• Assisting with Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects, including design and construction

• Supporting engineering project managers with clerical, administrative, and technical tasks

• Researching and analyzing programs and initiatives

• Updating internal procedures and policies

• Creating and editing CAD maps, designs, and standards (AutoCAD)

• Participating in field data collection, investigations, and analysis

• Researching development, zoning, and land use-related issues

• Performing engineering support services

• Drafting and editing reports

• Providing customer service

• Attending departmental and community meetings

• Opportunity to present a report to the City Council

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Education & Experience

• Some completed coursework toward an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is desired but not required.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator II/III position plays a key role in the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the City’s wastewater treatment facilities. The successful candidate will be appointed at the Operator II or Operator III level based on qualifications and experience.

Under general direction, this position operates, monitors, and maintains the wastewater treatment plant, lift stations, trunk sewers, outfall, and related facilities. Responsibilities include adjusting treatment processes to meet NPDES permit requirements, utilizing SCADA systems to monitor and control plant operations, performing preventive maintenance on plant equipment, collecting and analyzing wastewater and sludge samples, and maintaining accurate operational records.

At the Operator III level, additional responsibilities may include advanced process optimization, technical leadership, administrative and reporting duties, CMMS oversight, contractor coordination, and providing support to or acting in the absence of the Chief Treatment Plant Operator. This position requires flexibility to work off-hour, weekend, holiday, and on-call shifts and to respond to emergency situations as needed.

The Position: Learning Facilitators will be responsible for leading high-quality and connected learning experiences with children and collaborating with the other staff in a classroom environment for the Big Lift Summer Program. Inspiring Summers Camps: The camps serve children reading below grade level in areas where the majority of youth qualify for free or reduced lunch. Staff working intensively with enrolled youth will have the opportunity to make our community a stronger, healthier, and more equitable place. These summer learning experiences are a critical part of San Mateo County's strategy to dramatically reduce the number of youth who cannot read on grade level, a problem that disproportionately affects youth of color and socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. Help us support youth in a summer program aimed to build confident youth who will have the benefit of high-quality, cutting-edge learning experiences with caring and passionate adults.
 
Location: Big Lift Inspiring Summer Learning Facilitators will be assigned to work at one of eight camps with children who will be entering kindergarten, first, second, or third grade in the Fall. The camps are located in Daly City, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, Pacifica, Pescadero, San Bruno, and South San Francisco.
 
Schedule: This 6 to 7-week internship will begin with 8 days of required training and will then continue with a 4 to 5-week assignment in one of our learning camps. The camp assignment will either be part-time (20-28 hours per week, 4-5 hours per day Monday-Thursday and all day on Friday) or full-time (35-40 hours per week, 7-8 hours per day Monday-Friday).
 
MANDATORY IN-PERSON TRAINING WILL BEGIN TUESDAY, MAY 26, OR MONDAY, JUNE 1, 2025, depending on site placement.

Qualifications

 

These positions are designed to support college-aged students, recent graduates, and paraprofessionals working in youth education.
 
Education or Experience: Experience working with youth or a demonstrated interest in working with youth. Examples include experience coaching, tutoring, providing childcare, and taking child development coursework. Experience in theater, arts, music, youth development, early childhood, social justice, and science is also preferred.

The Department of Public Works is currently seeking to fill one full-time vacancy in the Engineering Services Division.

The Associate Construction Inspectors assigned to the Construction Management Services-Utility (CMS-Fee) Section is responsible for technical inspection services to ensure compliance with City and State Standards and Specifications.   The CMS-Fee Section supports the work being performed by utility companies to construct public infrastructure that will be operated and maintained by the City including storm and sanitary facilities, streets, curb/gutter/sidewalk, street lights, traffic signals, etc.   Typical duties of an Associate Construction Inspector in this section include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Reviews plans and specifications to determine proper testing requirements and standards. 
• Inspects methods and materials used in the construction of streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, storm drains, catch basins, driveways, approaches, culverts, sewers, landscaping, etc. for compliance with plans. 
• Inspects actual field construction from rough grading to finished paving of streets, including installation of storm and sanitary sewer systems, concrete structures, utility installations, street lights, traffic signal systems, etc. 
• Schedules final inspections and recommends acceptance of projects. 
• Determines the acceptability of materials, especially when there is a question of inferior quality, including researching and reviewing records, logs, and data of various kinds. 
• Ensures conformance to Cal/OSHA safety regulations, including shoring of trenches, proper use of equipment and machines, and adequate public traffic control. 
• Employees may be required to lift test equipment, tools and construction materials with the use of proper equipment. 
• Performs Public Works emergency duties, such as flood watch when required. 
• Investigate and respond to construction inquires/complaints from other departments or the public. 
• Be a mentee for Senior Construction Inspector and assigned to specific inspection area.
• Be available to work various shifts; day, nights and weekends.

Library Program Manager I: This is the entry level class in the professional library series. Assignments are generally limited in scope and within the design and procedural framework established by the Library Services Director. Library Program Manager II: This is the journey level class in the professional library series. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Librarian Program Manager I, or when filled from the outside, require prior professional library work experience.  Appointment to the higher class requires that the employee be performing substantially the full range of duties for the class and meet the qualification standards for the class. Work in this class is distinguished from that of a Library Program Manager I by greater complexity of the assignments received and by greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to operate.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Develops and interprets division policies.
• Coordinates program planning and service delivery for the division.
• Develops and conducts programs which reflect the guiding principles of the Library and public librarianship.

The City of Brisbane is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to play a key role in delivering high-quality public infrastructure projects and strengthening day-to-day engineering operations within the Public Works Department.

This position is intended for an experienced, hands-on engineer who enjoys owning complex work, providing technical leadership to staff, and ensuring consistency and quality across both capital projects and private development reviews. The Senior Engineer will work closely with the Public Works Director/City Engineer to manage capital project delivery, oversee consultants, lead Public Works’ review of private development applications, and maintain clear, practical engineering standards.

In addition to capital improvement projects, this role will lead the department’s private development review function, including oversight of Public Works–issued permits (such as grading, encroachment, and traffic control permits) and review of planning and building permit applications for consistency with Public Works standards and requirements.

This role is primarily delivery-focused and internally oriented, with an emphasis on problem-solving, collaboration, and execution. While there may be opportunities to brief leadership or participate in select meetings, the position is not intended to be a representational or policy-setting role.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Library Activity Leader supports the Youth Services and Neighborhood Libraries Divisions working year-round at the family friendly Redwood Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library. They work with library staff to create and deliver storytimes, events and programs, follow library policy and procedures, and provide excellent customer service to families, children and teens at the branch libraries.

The Department

Our department oversees the maintenance of 260 miles of sanitary sewer lines, 75 miles of storm drains, 210 miles of City streets and 380 miles of sidewalk. The Position

The Public Works Maintenance Leadworker performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of sewer infrastructure, road ways, sidewalks, and storm conveyance system. The Leadworker assigns and participates in the work of maintenance crews, operates power driven equipment, and performs related work as required.   This position is responsible for lead supervision of a sewer, street, storm or traffic safety maintenance field crew.
