The City of Patterson’s Public Works Department is seeking to fill several part-time Maintenance Worker positions and to establish an Eligibility List.  In this entry level class in the Public Works Maintenance Worker series, employees are trained and learn to become gradually more independent in, performing unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor in the repair, maintenance, construction, landscaping and cleanup of public works, parks and city facilities and services.  Duties include but are not limited to assist with digging out, breaking up and hauling away damaged sidewalks, gutters, curbs, and asphalt pavements; assist with painting street signs, crossings, crosswalks, curbs and centerlines; assist in repairing or installing landscape irrigation systems; learn to trim, prune, and remove landscaping and shrubbery; learn to operate a variety of trucks and equipment, including dump trucks, vactor trucks, rollers, front-end loaders, backhoe, tractors, air hammers, pavement breakers, lawn mowers, and other turf equipment; performs related duties as assigned.

Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list that may be used to fill future vacancies in the City's Urban Forestry, Parks, Streets, Collections, and Building Maintenance divisions.

The Public Works and Engineering Department is a small, dedicated team committed to planning, building, and maintaining infrastructure that supports safety, mobility, environmental stewardship, and quality of life for Orinda residents.

Under supervision of the Senior Engineer, this position plans, manages, and coordinates engineering programs and capital improvement projects, with a strong focus on:

• Capital Project Management and implementation
• Traffic Engineering and traffic safety programs
• Stormwater management, including NPDES and C.3 compliance
• Development review and engineering standards

The vacancy may be filled at one of the following classifications based on experience and qualifications:
Assistant Engineer or Associate Engineer.

Salary Ranges (DOE):

• Assistant Engineer: $9,940.75 - 12,129.60 monthly

• Associate Engineer: $10,634.54 - 12,976.16 monthly

Minimum Qualifications

Experience

• Assistant Engineer: Two years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience

• Associate Engineer: Three years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering.

License / Certification

• Assistant Engineer: Valid California driver’s license. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification desirable.  Valid California driver's license.

• Associate Engineer: Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California. Valid California driver’s license.

Special Requirements

• Ability to work in a standard office environment and conduct field inspections at project sites

• Ability to attend evening meetings as required.

Key Responsibilities (Examples of Duties)

• Manage and deliver capital improvement projects from planning and design through construction and closeout, including scope development, budgeting, consultant selection, and contract administration.

• Administer traffic engineering and traffic safety programs, serving as technical staff to the City’s Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC), preparing agendas, responding to traffic calming requests, and working with neighborhood groups.

• Administer and support the City’s Stormwater Program, including compliance with NPDES permits and C.3 (post-construction stormwater requirements).

• Oversee drainage improvement projects and respond to drainage and flooding concerns from residents.

• Conduct development review for public works and engineering aspects of private development projects, coordinating with Planning and other City departments and managing engineering consultants.

• Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, environmental documents, and technical reports for public infrastructure projects.

• Manage the subdivision approval process, including preparation of improvement agreements and review of parcel and final maps.

• Prepare staff reports and present technical information to the City Council, commissions, and the public; conduct public meetings and hearings on assigned projects.

• Establish and apply engineering standards and technical criteria for roads, traffic systems, storm drains, lighting, and related infrastructure.

This is an unrep, full-time, 40 hours per week position working 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays; 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM on Wednesdays; and 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Fridays; with occasional evening and weekend hours.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator II/III position plays a key role in the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the City’s wastewater treatment facilities. The successful candidate will be appointed at the Operator II or Operator III level based on qualifications and experience.

Under general direction, this position operates, monitors, and maintains the wastewater treatment plant, lift stations, trunk sewers, outfall, and related facilities. Responsibilities include adjusting treatment processes to meet NPDES permit requirements, utilizing SCADA systems to monitor and control plant operations, performing preventive maintenance on plant equipment, collecting and analyzing wastewater and sludge samples, and maintaining accurate operational records.

At the Operator III level, additional responsibilities may include advanced process optimization, technical leadership, administrative and reporting duties, CMMS oversight, contractor coordination, and providing support to or acting in the absence of the Chief Treatment Plant Operator. This position requires flexibility to work off-hour, weekend, holiday, and on-call shifts and to respond to emergency situations as needed.

The City of Brisbane is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to play a key role in delivering high-quality public infrastructure projects and strengthening day-to-day engineering operations within the Public Works Department.

This position is intended for an experienced, hands-on engineer who enjoys owning complex work, providing technical leadership to staff, and ensuring consistency and quality across both capital projects and private development reviews. The Senior Engineer will work closely with the Public Works Director/City Engineer to manage capital project delivery, oversee consultants, lead Public Works’ review of private development applications, and maintain clear, practical engineering standards.

In addition to capital improvement projects, this role will lead the department’s private development review function, including oversight of Public Works–issued permits (such as grading, encroachment, and traffic control permits) and review of planning and building permit applications for consistency with Public Works standards and requirements.
