THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
We are looking for enthusiastic, customer service-oriented and flexible Library Assistants who are effective in communicating with people from a variety of backgrounds. Experience working in a library, social services, youth development, education, or early childhood setting is also highly preferred.

The City of Millbrae is seeking a Part-time (20 hrs/wk) Environmental Coordinator. 

DEFINITION

Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Programs Manager, assists in the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of the City’s environmental programs; provides professional and technical assistance to other city departments, residents, businesses and schools; performs related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This position is distinguished from that of Environmental Programs Manager in that the latter has overall responsibility for environmental programs and activities.  Incumbents provide a wide range of program support activities through written and verbal direction and instruction; operates programs within established policies and procedures; and exercises limited independent judgment in the course of the work.

SUPERVISION

Direct supervision is provided by the Environmental Program Manager.  Incumbents may supervise the activities of program Interns.

Conduct outreach on the rebate programs; assist in staffing community outreach events.
10. Provide guidance to contractors, student interns and community volunteers.

12. Performs related duties as may be required in the course of the work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:  Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public health administration, public administration, or a related field. 

Experience: Two years experience performing environmental management functions including recycling, water conservation, of solid waste management and planning, etc.

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid California Operator’s License issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles and a satisfactory driving record.

The San Mateo Public Library is seeking two full-time Librarians. One position will work primarily at the Marina Branch Library and the other position will work primarily in the Children’s Division of the Main Library. Marina Library is a branch of the San Mateo Public Library. The building, located in the Parkside neighborhood, opened in 1966. Branch Library Position

The ideal candidate for the Marina Branch Library will be a creative, energetic, and highly motivated person with a passion for working with library visitors of all ages, while bringing fresh and original ideas for tailoring our services to meet the specific needs of the local community.  Our candidate will also collaborate on special events and other projects with a dynamic team of professional and para-professional staff. Under the supervision of the Supervising Librarian of the Branches, the successful candidate will work as a generalist, providing reference and reader's advisory services to both children and adults, presenting an engaging array of programs, and promoting library events and services in the local community.

Main Library Position – Children’s Services

The ideal candidate for the Children’s Division of the Main Library will be a high energy person with a passion for working with children, families, and their adult caregivers, and understand the public library’s unique role in supporting them. They feel comfortable in a dynamic, busy library space where they regularly practice their librarian skills by presenting storytimes, STEM/Makerspace programs, school age programs, family and parent workshops, reader’s advisory and so much more. THE POSITION

The main job of a Library Page is putting books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines back on the shelves and preparing the library for opening and closing. The ability to quickly and accurately sort things alphabetically and numerically is required. This is an ideal job for someone who enjoys organizing and who can work quietly on their own.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, sorts, shelves, straightens, relocates, and searches for library materials, re-orders and organizes materials as needed, provides basic directional information to patrons, performs basic circulation duties using computer software, performs physical tasks to support library programs and procedures, performs closing procedures, and does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Sorts and shelves materials, assists at public service desks; inspects materials for wear and damage and does basic mending of same; keeps books and periodical shelves in order; assists in taking inventory of books; performs basic custodial tasks as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Knowledge of: Basic clerical functions, principles of alphabetical and numerical filing, basic record keeping procedures.

Ability to: Sort material quickly and accurately in alphabetic or numeric order; follow oral and written directions; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to library patrons, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Availability for evening and Saturday shifts is required.

This is seasonal work which will include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the department.
