DEFINITION

Under the general direction of a Bureau Deputy Fire Chief to participate as a staff member managing a wide range of fire department activities that may include supervising shift assignments; administrative assignments including planning, organizing and directing programs toward accomplishing goals and objectives of the department; to oversee and direct daily operations of the department; and other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Responds and assumes command at emergencies and coordinates on-scene activities.
• Prepares reports on fire service issues and recommends courses of action after considering alternatives.
• Plans, reviews, and supervises Division assigned activities involving fire operations, training, special operations, technical services, administration, emergency medical services, emergency planning & disaster preparedness and other assignments as designated.
• Makes oral and written presentations to fire department personnel, City staff and various community groups.
• Prepares a variety of written reports that are needed weekly, monthly or annually. Maintains department records, recommends capital projects and prepares annual budgets as assigned.
• Reviews monthly financial statements.
• Works with other City departments and government agencies in matters of concern to the fire department.
• May serve as acting Deputy Fire Chief as designated.
• Handles a variety of personnel issues and assures consistent application of department policies and practices.
• Reviews and evaluates the performance of employees.
• Conducts special fire safety programs and insures good public relations.
• Assures that safety and accident prevention programs are adhered to.
• Conducts training and assures completion of engine company assignments and facilitates employee development.
• Attends training to maintain proficiency in modern management techniques and attends staff meetings.

The City of Dixon is excited to announce the recruitment for one (1) full-time, regular position of Water Operator I. This position performs a variety of maintenance, operations, and repair work on the City's water distribution system, including pumps, mains, chlorinators, meters, and other equipment. 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Work is performed in a variety of different environments with exposure to varying weather conditions including high temperatures, rain, and wind. Work is performed with exposure to hazardous materials, smoke, gasses, and fumes; with exposure to hazards such as, moving machine parts and live electrical current; and exposure to loud and/or high frequency noise. Occasional performance of heavy manual labor; occasional standing or driving for long periods of time; use of a computer; occasional climbing, work at heights above 10 feet; working on ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and repetitive hand movement. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Constant use of overall color vision. Frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. Frequent contact with other staff, outside agencies and the general public; occasional working alone. Night, weekend, and holiday hours will be required on a rotating schedule for 24/7 standby and weekend/holiday rounds.

EXAM PROCESS: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience will be invited to participate in a written exam (pass/fail) and candidates who pass the written exam will be invited for an interview. Note: The examination process may be change as deemed necessary.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Fire Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City which are staffed 24-hours per day, plus an Emergency Operations Center and Fire Training Tower. Two fire stations have paramedic ambulances. The City of South San Francisco is the only Fire Department in San Mateo County providing its own paramedic transport services. The Paramedic ambulances respond to medical emergencies, as well as structure fires and other hazardous incidents. The department cross-staffs a Type I/Heavy Urban Search and Rescue, an OES Type VI Engine, and two Fire/Rescue Boats.

The Fire Department is an active participant in the San Mateo County automatic aid system and responds regularly in support of neighboring jurisdictions throughout the county, including the San Francisco International Airport.  Department members are eligible to participate on FEMA USAR California Task Force 3, sponsored by the Menlo Park Fire Protection District.  The department is also an active participant in the Bay Area Maritime Search and Rescue Council and regularly trains with other fire agencies and the United States Coast Guard.  

The City is planning for the replacement and expansion of two of its existing fire stations, modernizing and relocating the facilities to better serve the public.

In support of the San Mateo County automatic aid agreement, all entry level candidates will attend a regional, county-wide, fire academy where they will be introduced to all agencies in the county and rotate through a variety of training sites.  The roughly 12-week academy also includes specialized training depending on candidate certifications.

Infrastructure Services Unit (Position Code 365) 
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

 

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite, after completion of the probationary period (one year).

 ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Public Works Services Department invites you to apply for the position of Utilities Field Supervisor in the Wastewater Division. The Wastewater Division operates and maintains the City’s sanitary sewer collection system and municipal stormwater system. What You Will Do:

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives related to the Department’s Emergency Management Program; establish schedules and methods for program development, implementation, and monitoring; implement policies and procedures.
• Develop and implement Emergency Management Program activities including the joint Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
• Evaluate emergency management program activities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various program reports.
• Prepare and conduct public outreach and education related to emergency management and preparedness including CCFD Emergency Management website pages, the preparation of social media posts and campaigns, newsletters, and training announcements; provide educational presentations to the community.
• Develop and maintain plans including but not limited to Emergency Operations Plans and Annexes, Local Hazard Mitigation Plans and Annexes, Continuity of Operations Plans, Continuity of Government Plans, and Crisis Communications Plans.
• Assist with the coordination of emergency preparedness classes offered to the public, including CERT, CPR and First Aid.
• Coordinate EOC operations including the creation of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) procedure manuals and checklists, training and maintenance of response platforms, ensuring that the EOC is properly equipped, and serving as liaison with the San Mateo County Department of Emergency Management in the event of an EOC activation.
• Provide CSTI/Cal OES emergency management classes for agency staff.
• Provide resources and other information as requested for EOC staff and support and provide necessary National Incident Management System (NIMS) training for agency employees.
• Represent the Department with dignity, integrity, and the spirit of cooperation in all relations with elected officials, staff, and the public.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

You possess knowledge of theories, principles and practices of emergency program planning, development, management techniques and training; National Incident Management Systems; function and operation of a municipal government and an Emergency Operations Center; community emergency and disaster support and assistance resources; development of public education programs utilizing 5-step planning process, development of community risk reduction programs utilizing methods of evaluation; customer service principles and problem resolution techniques; business letter writing and report preparation.
