The City of Thousand Oaks has an excellent promotional opportunity for a Landscape Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works department.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform skilled work in the pruning, care, and maintenance of trees and grounds maintenance, including chemical application duties
• Perform heavy manual labor in the care and maintenance of trees and in performing grounds maintenance
• Install, repair, and program irrigation systems and controllers
• Perform graffiti removal
• Perform routine and emergency work from an aerial lift bucket
• Assist in overseeing the work of contractors
• Assist with encampment and abandoned property clean-up efforts (e.g. supporting police personnel in non-enforcement and enforcement situations, or contracted services by posting, documenting, collecting, storing and/or disposing of private property or debris)

Note: Work Schedule – 4/40 (Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Position involves performing after-hours emergency work on an “as needed” basis and on-call duties on a rotating basis.

The City of San Carlos has an opportunity for a full-time Maintenance Worker to work in their Public Works Department. This classification performs a variety of routine, heavy labor and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of public works facilities, City parks, and City buildings.

Essential Duties

• Perform daily safety checks and routine maintenance of equipment to ensure it is safe for use.
• Use proper techniques for operation of equipment and tools in a safe manner, according to accepted City procedures.
• Operate maintenance equipment and tools such as trucks, power tools, sewer rodder, hydraulic jet rodder/vacuum truck, loader backhoe, compressor, boom truck, CCTV truck, pneumatic and electro-mechanical controls, and related equipment and tools for a variety of construction and maintenance operations.
• Perform on-call duties and work in emergency situations as required.
• Install, repair and modify pump station machinery and controls.
• Check pump stations for proper operation; troubleshoot and remedy malfunctions and stoppages.
• Read and interpret maps of underground sewer and drainage systems.
• Paint traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate airless line striping equipment.
• Manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.
• Design and manufacture special signs for municipal facilities.
• Install and remove traffic barricades and cones as required.
• Repair surface failures, utility cuts, chuckholes and seals cracks in asphalt pavements properly and competently.
• Break out and replace concrete sidewalks and gutters using a concrete saw, pavement breaker, wooden forms, and hand tools to finish the surface.
• Clean sanitary sewer lines using hand tools, a hydraulic jet rodder/vacuum and mechanical rodder.
• Excavate, remove, and install sanitary sewer pipes utilizing hand tools, power tools such as pneumatic pavement breakers, compaction equipment and loader backhoe.
• Repair storm drains, catch basins and storm drain pipes.
• Drive dump trucks to haul material to and from the job sites.
• Rake leaves, shovel and digs holes.
• Pick up and dispose of trash and debris from parks and roadsides.
• Control the growth of weeds in lawn areas, shrub areas and flower beds using hand tools, spray equipment and weed eaters.
• Trim trees, hedges, and shrubs using appropriate equipment, remove debris.
• Check irrigation sprinkler systems and ensures their proper functioning, by cleaning and adjusting heads and digging up and repairing broken lines.
• Clean City's park buildings by sweeping and mopping floors, carpets, and cleaning restroom facilities. Replaces light bulbs.
• Provide set up of tables and chairs for City functions.

The Position: 

The Staff Analyst I is responsible for program analysis and administrative duties in support of assigned programs and activities. Assigned programs could include housing development, community development, community outreach, historic preservation, advanced planning, public/private housing rehabilitation, management analysis, building services, human services, criminal statistics, solid waste, recycling, waste prevention, sustainability, urban runoff pollution prevention, and federal/state grant programs and activities.  Performs related duties as assigned.

Summary Description

Under immediate supervision performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work assigned to the streets division; operates maintenance and construction tools and equipment; performs a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the entry level class in the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Handle complaints and answer questions from the public.
2. Remove blight and illegal dumps from city property such as parks, right of ways, roadways, alleys, walkways, sidewalks and refuse disposal.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Human Resources Department provides a wide range of internal service support to the City's 12 departments and over 400 employees, strategically aligned with the City Manager's Office leadership of the City team.

The Human Resources Department is composed of a Human Resources Director, Risk Manager, Senior Human Resources Analyst, and three additional support staff positions.

The Human Resources Operations Manager oversees a variety of labor relations and benefits administration duties and serves on the bargaining team during union negotiations.  They will work closely with the HR Director to make important decisions for the HR Department, such as organizational structure changes and staff oversight responsibilities while also serving as a subject matter expert to fellow HR staff and department heads.  They will oversee HR staff and contribute to the development of the Department's annual budget.  This role focuses on supporting the HR team in union relations, meet and confer challenges, grievance responses, and contract negotiations, while supporting department managers through the employee coaching and progressive discipline process.  The Human Resources Operations Manager will use a high degree of accuracy, independent judgment, and discretionary decision-making with respect to interpretation and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), City policies and procedures, the Employer-Employee Relations Resolution and Public Employment Relations Board rulings.  This position also provides oversight for employee benefits administration, and worker's compensation programs for the City.

Glenn County is recruiting an individual to fill a full time position in the Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker I/II/III position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of County roads, bridges, and other related structures, and in various traffic control maintenance and  repair activities of the Public Works Agency; operates a variety of construction, maintenance and transportation equipment as necessary to complete daily tasks at the Glenn County Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker III position is the journey-level class in the series, and is distinguished from the Public Works Maintenance Worker II by the primary responsibility to operate heavy diesel and gasoline-powered construction equipment in the maintenance of roadways, drainage systems.

• Prepares roads for patch repairs, overlays, or chip seals; prepares mix for patching roads; repairs and reconstructs roads.
• Cleans roadsides and drainage systems; inspects and clears debris from drainage systems; conducts roadside burning as needed.

ABOUT MILL VALLEY

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Neighborhood Response Group (NRG) Coordinator position will be filled within the Management Analyst Series and will be housed in the City Manager’s Office/Administrative Services Department.

The City plans to recruit flexibly within the Management Analyst Series (Management Analyst I or II) and will determine the appropriate level based on the qualifications, experience, and overall fit of the selected candidate. At the minimum, this position will be filled on a part-time basis at 15–20 hours per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primarily, you will play a vital role in building community resilience by organizing and empowering residents to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. Depending on the candidate's qualifications, the vacancy will be filled at either Street Maintenance Worker Level 1 or Level 2. The successful candidate will work at the City’s Municipal Service Center in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks.

Primary responsibilities:

• Breaks and removes concrete using a hydraulic breaker and handwork
• Repair or replace cracked, raised, sunken, or otherwise damaged sidewalks, curbs, and gutters
• Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, repair, and cleaning of streets, curbs, gutters, storm drains, and related structures
• Perform heavy manual labor in the removal, repair, and finish of concrete and asphalt work
• Operate and maintain a variety of maintenance and construction equipment, including hand and power tools, and light, medium, and heavy motorized equipment
• Conduct traffic control when working in traffic areas of the City; install street barricades and cones; direct and control traffic around work sites
• Maintain records of work performed

Each division is led by a Deputy Director reporting to the Director of Public Works. What You'll Do

The Maintenance Worker position may be filled at either the I or II level based on experience. The Maintenance Worker will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, sewers, storm drains, pump stations, traffic signal and street light equipment, traffic systems, or municipal buildings; and to do related work as required. Some of the duties of this position are as follows:

• Operate construction and maintenance equipment such as backhoes, motorgraders, boom trucks, tractors, vac-all and small sweepers, and skip loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving streets, sidewalks and gutters, sewer lines, and drainage channels.
• Use concrete cutting and braking equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.
• Operate maintenance equipment and tools such as trucks, power tools, sewer rodder, hydraulic jet cleaner, vac-all, front loader, backhoe, compressor, sandblaster, power wench, boom truck, cc TV unit, main and auxiliary pumps, pneumatic and electro-mechanical controls, diesel power plants, and related equipment and tools.
• Assist pump mechanics to install, repair and modify pump station machinery and control.
• Paint traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck.
• Assist in performing a variety of routine electrical maintenance and repair tasks.
• Assist in trash and debris control activities such as picking up of litter and other street maintenance activities as required or when weather does not permit sweeping operations.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with work flow processes.
• Work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers.
