About the Position

Positions in this classification perform work in the organization and implementation of a wide variety of recreation activities. 

The work schedule will be Monday-Thursday 4:00pm-9:00pm but may vary based on the needs of the City.

The Program Coordinator classification is the top-level position in the Recreation Leader Series.  Advancement from Recreation Leader Level II to Program Coordinator requires 500 hours of work experience at Recreation Leader Level II, or equivalent experience.

May provide functional supervision to a Recreation Leader I or II as assigned.  Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member.

• Provide evening customer support, which includes front desk coverage at the Adult Community Center, processing registrations and payments, processing refunds and transfers, answering phone, contacting customers through emails and calls.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking an effective and skilled communicator, and highly motivated problem solver for the position of Principal Transportation Engineer/Planner.  This management position reports directly to the Transportation and Traffic Manager in the Public Works Department and will be responsible for:  assisting with planning, organizing and coordinating the activities of the Division of Transportation and Traffic; and perform professional traffic engineering, transportation planning, designing, and project management.

This position will supervise a small team within the Division to accomplish specific tasks and high-level, community-oriented projects. Current projects include: East Channel Trail study; Mary Avenue Overcrossing over highways 101 and 237; Bernardo Avenue railroad undercrossing; Sunnyvale Avenue and Mary Avenue railroad grade separations, liaison with the County for the Lawrence Grade Separation project; and coordinating with VTA as part of the delivering Measure B transportation projects. The position will manage multiple consultant contracts and will be expected to coordinate and work closely with other staff within the Division and with staff within other departments such as Public Works, Community Development, Environmental Services, and Public Safety, and represent the City with outside agencies such as the Valley Transportation Authority, Caltrain, High Speed Rail, Caltrans, MTC, County of Santa Clara, and adjacent cities.

The position will focus on advancing the projects mentioned above, assist with oversight of the design and traffic signal operations, implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS); assist with the coordination of Division of Transportation and Traffic activities with other divisions and departments; oversee and assist with oversight of the grant application preparation, reporting, and management for transportation projects; assist with planning and coordinating division workload and budgets; creating and sustaining cooperative and collaborative working relationships across the City, with the development community, and residents; attend and present at public meetings/City Commissions; and provide assistance with highly complex traffic engineering work. We therefore, are looking for a candidate with strong analytical, technical and problem solving skills, who can prioritize and deliver results in a constantly changing environment, effectively communicate to various types of interested parties, and has the proven ability to establish effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, and vendors.

Quality Assurance Group: 
The QA Group supports all capital improvement programs for the Division during planning, design, procurement, construction and closeout phases of highway, rail, transit and facilities projects.  As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will play an important role in ensuring delivery of quality products and services for the Division. It is the responsibility of the QA Group to ensure the development of each project’s Contract-specific Quality Management Plan (CQMP) and to conduct audits and surveillances, based on the approved CQMPs, to monitor and assure effective implementation.  Formal Title: Senior Utilities Engineer

The Position
The City of Hayward is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater [Formal Title: Senior Utilities Engineer] with a water and/or wastewater background to supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the Utilities Division. The Senior Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater  is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs engineering activities including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding, water storage and distribution, sewer collection and services during construction and construction management for a variety of projects in wastewater treatment.

DEFINITION
Under general direction, supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the assigned functions and activities of the Engineering Section of the Utilities Division.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and coordinates assigned activities of the Utilities engineering section, including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding process, services during construction and construction management for variety of projects in water distribution, sanitary sewer collection, recycled water, stormwater management, and wastewater treatment.  This position is distinguished from that of subordinate Associate Civil Engineer position by its responsibility for the supervision of assigned engineering and technical staff, in addition to engineering and technical responsibilities for project development, design, and construction management for more complex projects. This position is distinguished from that of the Principal Utilities Engineer by the latter position’s complexity of assignments and responsibility for the supervision of higher-level engineering and technical staff.  

 

 

Essential Duties

What you will do:
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish budgets, schedules, and methods for the engineering, planning, design and construction of assigned utilities systems.

• Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff involved in the implementation of Capital Improvement Projects through the planning, design, bid award, construction and commissioning phase. 

• Evaluate operations and activities of department; recommend improvements and modifications to operational procedures; prepare various reports on operations. 

• Participate in the mentoring of staff; coordinate and provide staff training; conduct performance evaluations; recommend discipline; implement discipline procedures as directed.

• Review proposed development projects and permit applications for conformance with City standards, specifications, details, and Master Plans; set conditions for the provision of utility services; provide engineering support during construction including reviewing submittals, responding to requests for information, resolving conflicts/claims, coordinating with inspectors and Utilities Operations and Maintenance staff, and ensuring construction conforms with approved plans and specifications. 

• Negotiate and obtain easements, permits, and agreements for the City construction projects and development projects. Review and coordinate annexation of property to the City water, sanitary sewer, and recycled water service areas.

• Prepare Requests for Quotes and Requests for Proposals; receive and respond to questions during proposal period; review proposals and participate in the selection of vendors, consultants, and/or contractors.

• Maintain and create accurate records and maintain design standards and specifications for water, sanitary sewer, wastewater treatment and recycled water infrastructure.

• Oversee and review the preparation and/or updates of Master Plans and studies that outline future water, recycled water, sanitary sewer collection system, and wastewater treatment system improvements.

• Prepare drawings, models, and displays for special studies and reports completed by the Utilities Division and explore and study the preparation of area wide Master Plans guiding future installations of major water, recycled water, and sanitary sewer collection system improvements.

• Serve as construction manager on complex water, sewer (wastewater), and recycled water capital improvement projects.

• Oversee and review the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, and the administration of contracts for construction projects in utilities (e.g., water, recycled water, sanitary sewer collections, and wastewater treatment  and storm drainage projects).

• Prepare, revise, and update standard specifications and details related to water, recycled water, and sanitary sewer system infrastructure.

• Check plans prepared by other agencies for conflict with the City's existing and proposed utilities systems.

• Coordinate work between sections and divisions of various City Departments and advise City staff on assigned engineering and technical matters.

• Participate in the selection and supervision of outside engineering consultants for the development of plans and specifications, studies, and reports.

• Coordinate utilities engineering related activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.

• Prepare reports and participate in the development of the Capital Improvement Program and Project budget and priorities for utilities projects. 

• Coordinate and consult with contractors, developers, engineers, and operation and maintenance staff on problems relating to the design, construction, and maintenance of assigned utilities facilities.

• Prepare project statements outlining scope of projects, design criteria, available data, background, scheduling coordination, and financing for utilities projects.

• Review, edit and prepare staff reports and resolutions for City Council authorization; prepare staff reports and presentations to council special committees. 

• Participate in interviews and selection of new employees as directed, and trains employees in work procedures, standards, and safety practices. 

• Prepares and provides input into employee performance evaluations, including setting and assessing goals, conducts counseling on work-related issues, and makes recommendations regarding discipline.

• Answer questions and provide information to the public; research questions and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve issues.

• Changes oil and filters on various pumps and compressors in the plant; maintains safety inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and ladders in the plant;
• Removes and replaces packing from various pumps in the plant; installs new rings of packing with new Lantern rings if damaged; applies grease to the new set of packing for proper lubrication; removes corrosion or debris from packing gland before reinstalling;
• Evaluates pump performance and flow rate to determine if pump has excessive buildup of rags that is affecting its performance and efficiency; shuts down pumps to remove rags from impeller and clears any obstructions;
• Replaces damaged parts/fittings on leaking chemical feed pumps; makes alterations to existing supply tubing or fittings, replacing clamps or O-rings, or removing debris caught in the check valves; inspects, tests, calibrates, adjusts, cleans, and paints equipment in the water pollution control plant; and
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of: Principles, practices, and techniques of the installation, maintenance, and repair of water treatment plan systems; operation of various hand and power tools; proper procedures to safely perform maintenance on machinery and equipment in the plant; maintenance for MP2 program; recording and updating repair history on water pollution control plant equipment; how to create new work orders and close out completed work orders; forklift operations and scissor lift; replacing, repairing, and installing piping, fittings, and valves on water pollution control equipment; data entry of important, vital information regarding maintenance repairs; performance and evaluation on future preventative maintenance in the WPCP MP2 program; proper protective equipment.

Ability to: Drive and operate vehicles and equipment safely; keep inventory, order, and stock necessary parts and supplies for the maintenance shop; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; adhere to prescribed policies, procedures, routines, and practices; carry out assignments with minimal instructions; read and understand written instructions, maps, equipment operation manuals, and other written documents associated with the work; effectively schedule work; effectively keep written records.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Technical training in a water treatment plant system or related field is desirable.

Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pollution control plant and sewage pumping facilities.

Licenses: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license, obtain and maintain a California Class B Driver’s License, and a satisfactory driving record. CWEA Certification as a Grade I Mechanical Technologist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Respond to work at any hour of the day or night, within designated timeframe, as required during afterhours, weekend service, and/or emergency situations; carry communication equipment in order to respond after work hours. Vision, hearing, and physical ability adequate to obtain and maintain a California Class B Driver’s License; speak clearly and understandably. Requires moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion including bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, lifting, twisting, digging, carrying, and/or handling material weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds. Work in confined spaces and wear protective equipment. May work in conditions that require exposure to noise, odors, chemical and biological agents, gases, and contact with sanitary wastewater; work at heights up to 20 feet; work in varying temperatures of cold and heat, and in inclement weather for extended periods of time; work in conditions that may contain dust, mold, and various chemicals.

Under the general direction of the General Manager, the District Engineer plans, organizes, and manages all engineering activities for the District, including design, project and construction management, inspection, and review of public and private improvement projects. This role ensures compliance with District standards and all regulatory requirements while providing technical and strategic support to the General Manager and Board on capital projects, treatment processes, and infrastructure optimization.

The position oversees staff, consultants, and contractors; administers budgets and contracts; manages the Capital Improvement and Renewal & Replacement programs; and serves as project manager or engineer-of-record for major projects. Responsibilities include developing engineering policies and procedures, conducting technical studies, ensuring regulatory compliance (including CEQA), and maintaining accurate records of facilities and property rights.

The District Engineer represents the District in meetings with agencies, developers, and the public and plays a key role in advancing long-term infrastructure planning and operational efficiency.

Position Duties

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Parks Manager vacancy in the Parks Division at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo.

The total salary range for the Parks Manager classification is $143,860.08 - $175,309.68 annually. 

This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

The City of San José’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department (PRNS) is seeking an innovative and results-driven Parks Manager to lead Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ) — the City’s flagship destination known for its blend of family recreation, wildlife conservation, and environmental education. 

The Parks Manager serves as the General Manager for Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ), providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for all facets of the park and zoo. PROGRAM LEADER (SPORTS AND FITNESS)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour, DOE

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year); predominantly afternoon/evening schedule, some weekends.

DEFINITION
The Town seeks gym monitors, scorekeepers, and leaders for the Junior Warriors youth basketball program. Responsibilities focus on monitoring basketball practices and games for kindergarten-aged through middle school participants. Basketball knowledge is preferred but not required. All staff will be cross-trained to assist with multiple aspects of the program, including refereeing younger age groups (K–3rd grade) and scorekeeping/timekeeping for older age groups. CPR/FA certification is recommended but not required.
 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Program Leader receives supervision from the Program Coordinator and/or Program Assistant.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Essential duties may include, but are not limited to:
•Gym monitoring for practices and games, including opening the gym, setting up and lowering hoops, and cleaning up.
•Refereeing for younger age groups (K–3rd grade).
•Scorekeeping and timekeeping for older age groups.
•Completing program score sheets, reports, and timesheets according to deadlines.
•Attending monthly staff meetings.
•Various tasks related to the implementation of youth basketball programs.
 

QUALIFICATIONS
•Reliable and dependable.
•Good social skills to communicate with managers, coaches, parents, and children.
•Team player.
•Able to work independently.
•Flexible and willing to learn and teach.
 

SCHEDULE:
•Practices begin in December during the week (gym monitoring shifts).
•Games start in January and occur on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).
