DEFINITION

Under general supervision, provide recreational and educational instruction and activities, social development, guidance and care for preschool and elementary age children by leading and assisting in the selection and coordination of a variety of activities and curriculum at a childcare site.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Child Care Lead Teacher is the lead teacher in the classroom.  Child Care Lead Teachers may also be asked to temporarily oversee a school site when a Site Coordinator is offsite.  If a situation arises where a Site Supervisor is unavailable for an extended period of time a Child Care Lead Teacher with a Site Supervisor Permit will be asked to act as a temporary Site Supervisor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

General supervision is provided by the Child Care Site Coordinator. Child Care Lead Teacher  supervises the classrooms to which they are assigned, including Child Care Aides, Associate Teachers, Teachers, and Full-time Teachers that are assigned to their programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Assist in the development of a diversified program of recreational games, sports, arts, crafts, and other activities for elementary school children.
• Assist in the development of a diversified preschool curriculum of music, science, math, dramatic play, social studies, literature, and recreational activities.
• Plan and lead a variety of activities appropriate to children of various age groups.
• Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events.
• Instruct children in the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment. Instruct children in proper health and hygiene care.
• Assist in the selection and arrangement of field trips, special events and guest speakers.
• Assist with the preparation of site nutrition program.
• Assist with developing discipline techniques and maintaining acceptable classroom behavior from participants.
• Drive/Transport children using City of Pacifica City vans.
• Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facility and equipment.
• Inspect the site and equipment for potential safety hazards; take corrective action to prevent injuries.
• Assist in monitoring site supplies.
• Assist in recording numbers for attendance and nutrition reports. Perform related duties as assigned.
• Assist Site Supervisors with the evaluation process for Childcare Aides, Associate Teachers, Teachers, and Full-time Teachers (I/II) that are assigned to their programs.
• Attend and participate in required in-service training activities.
• Assist Site Coordinator in preparing yearly State of California Desired Results reports, including managing children’s portfolios, and monitoring student progress by using Desired Results Developmental Profile and designated online educational platforms.

One Traffic Engineer position will manage, coordinate, and oversee the City’s Traffic Calming Program. Key responsibilities include working with residents on traffic calming requests, collecting and analyzing traffic data, conducting public outreach, developing and implementing traffic calming measures to address community concerns, conducting after studies, and preparing recommendations for City Council consideration. This position will also manage the traffic issue request queue for all types of requests, working with the rest of the division on evaluations, resolutions, and responses to the requests.  This position may also perform other duties as assigned.

A second Traffic Engineer position will help manage, coordinate and oversee large transportation infrastructure projects from planning through construction. This position will support our Transportation Special Projects team, working closely with a Principal Transportation Engineer and a Senior Traffic Engineer primarily on the delivery of large-scale transportation infrastructure projects for the City. Responsibilities include advancing projects through various stages of development and implementation, representing the City in coordination with stakeholders and partner agencies, applying for and managing grant funding related to the projects, overseeing consultant teams, reviewing technical plans, specifications and reports, conducting public outreach; providing traffic related technical support to other Public Works divisions, and performing other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering,  AND
 
Two years of experience performing relevant, professional level work in traffic, transportation or civil engineering.

Current registration as a Professional Civil or Traffic Engineer issued by the State of California is required.

The City of Newark's Recreation and Community Services Department is excited to announce an excellent opportunity for motivated and skilled professionals to join our team as a Recreation Coordinator. This key role involves coordinating and implementing a variety of recreation and human services programs and events, including sports, fitness, aquatics, and adult and youth development activities. The Recreation Coordinator will also supervise temporary and volunteer staff, and perform a variety of clerical support services.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. 
• Additional education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of one year.

Experience:

• Three (3) years experience in recreation, community services, or related field.

License:

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
• Possession of valid certificates in Lifeguarding, CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED and Emergency Oxygen are highly desirable.

Special Requirements:

• Position will require working occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.

Under the supervision and general direction of the District Engineer, this student engineering position  performs a variety of basic technical civil engineering duties such as mapping, data entry, review of residential and commercial developments, and supporting capital projects. Responsibilities include assisting the Associate Engineer with project management, plan review, fee calculations, permit issuance, maintaining engineering records, conducting field surveys, site inspections, and data analysis. Responsibilities also include assisting the Engineering Technician in GIS and AutoCAD related projects as needed.

Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Engineering Intern is a part-time hourly/non-exempt position that performs varied tasks and assists the Engineering Team with applied research, inspections, and administrative support functions as part of the learning experience in conjunction with educational coursework leading to an advanced degree in Engineering.

Examples of Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performs general GIS/AutoCAD map updates and modifications including the collection of GPS data points.
• Performs supervised plan checks on new development, capital projects, remodels, and tenant improvements for compliance with State laws and Regulations and modern construction techniques.
• Confers with property owners and contractors to explain requirements and to induce compliance to Regulations.
• Maintains electronic and paper records of changes of plans and specifications, manages the data necessary for establishing sewer connection permits and changes and maintains related records.
• Performs basic drafting work, laying out and correcting of maps, plans and diagrams.
• Prepares reports, spreadsheets, databases, graphs, tables, and other supporting project related documentation, records, and notes. 
• Assists District Engineer with the management and successful completion of Capital Improvement projects, Recycled Water projects, Flow Equalization land development and consolidation efforts;
• Assist homeowners and developers in the administration and calculation of reimbursement agreements and annexation into the main sewer line system.
• Assists with the review of plans and specifications for a variety of engineering related projects and initiatives.
• Assists with creating, maintaining, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for computer operations related to functional areas of operations.
• Provide general and specific information to developers, contractors, design consultants, the public, and staff on specifications, ordinances, and policies.
• Performs varied mathematical computations.
• Ensures safety and health procedures and precautions are adhered to, corrects unsafe work conditions/practices and/or reports unsafe work conditions/practices to assigned supervisory or managerial staff.
• Performs related duties as assigned

Additional Requirements
Knowledge of:

• Basic civil engineering principles and related terminology.
• Applicable regulations. laws. specifications. engineering principles. codes. policies, and methods of materials and equipment used in surveying, pipeline construction, engineering, inspection, field and office practices.
• Methods of preparing and interpreting maps, charts, graphs, plans, and technical reports.
• Methods of interpreting and presenting technical data verbally and in reports.
• Microsoft Office, GIS, (AutoCAD), and other modern engineering software programs

• Promote and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, contractors, district personnel, public utilities and others.
• Create, read, revise. interpret. understand, and update neat engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, work orders, plans, schematics, or other related supporting documentation, notes, and records.
• Exercise good analytical and organizational skills.
• Successfully utilize Microsoft Office, GIS. (AutoCAD), other modern engineering software programs. and database platforms including Access and SQL server.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed.
• Remain current on emerging technologies related to engineering, administration, construction, inspection, and information technology.
• Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
• Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy and legal guidelines.
• Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work and set priorities.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Analyze, evaluate, design, program, install, troubleshoot, and maintain information systems and peripherals.
• Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Operate a motor vehicle to travel to various job sites, projects, and/or meetings.

Experience:

• Recent civil engineering graduate or Junior/Senior level university student currently enrolled in an accredited civil engineering undergrad or graduate degree program.

Education:

• Associate degree working towards Bachelors
• Recent civil engineering graduate
• Junior/Senior level university student currently enrolled in an accredited civil engineering undergrad or graduate degree program.
• Relevant Experience with certification will be considered (ie: AutoCAD (2020), GIS, Database Management)

Overtime/On-Call:

• Must be willing to work overtime as needed.

License and Certificate:

• Possession of a valid Class "C" Driver License is required.

Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:

• Ability to work in a standard office environment and drive to different sites as needed. Ability to work in environments with some exposure to noise, the outdoors, and mechanical hazards.

The Public Works Department is recruiting to fill several Event Services Representative (Recreation Leader – Part Time Unbenefited) positions to support the coordination of events occurring at City Hall. The ideal candidates will possess a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills, and a strong work ethic. The position requires excellent judgment, initiative, independence, integrity, organizational skills, flexibility, and written and verbal communication skills.  

Event Services Representatives assist in monitoring and providing customer/client support for special events. Event Services Representatives maybe required to provide technical assistance and set up of equipment on day of event, assist in resolving customer issues and complaints, and respond to emergency situations during events. The on-site Event Services Representative coordinates with event staff such as ushers, ticket takers, security, crowd control, outside contractors, and performs facility safety checks which may include enforcing Safety and Fire Marshall Regulations.  

Due to the nature of the job responsibilities, Event Services Representatives must be able to:  

• Work extended/irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. 

• Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. 

• Lift and carry items weighing between 25 and 50 pounds on an as needed basis. 

• Comprehend verbal and written instructions. 

• Prepare event reports.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision from Preschool Instructor(s) and the Recreation Supervisor, the preschool aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing preschool programming for children ages 2-5 years old in a range of classes from introductory drop-off preschool classes to Kindergarten preparedness preschool classes. Program hours are M-F PM 8:30am – 1:00pm. Approximately 20– 23 hours a week. Preschool aides must be willing and able to both take direction from the Preschool Instructor and work independently when fulfilling tasks. Substitute and on-call positions also available.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Assists in the development, coordination, planning, implementing and supervising the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing preschool program.

• Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and creative environment.

• Supervise and engage preschool students during preschool program hours.

• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and children.

• Maintain registration, attendance, and activity records; ensure the proper pick-up/drop-off of children. 

• Encourage good behavior, appropriate manners, read books and engage with all preschool students. 

• Implement and lead appropriate activities for preschool-aged children.

• Possess strong leadership skills in one or more of the following areas: art, crafts, sports, drama, cooking.
