Summary: 
Under direct supervision, leads the planning and coordination of specialized recreational programs for the community and provides staff assistance in a specialized program area; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides work guidance and participates in the work of Recreation Specialists, contract, temporary and administrative support staff; participates in prioritizing workload and monitoring work of other employees for completeness, accuracy and conformance with departmental standards; provides information, instruction and training on work processes; provides input on employee work performance.
• Leads the planning, promoting and implementation of specialized recreation programs for an assigned community area or group, including registration and special events; verifies staff and/or instructor availability; resolves conflicts related to activities and events. Assists in conducting training programs for staff and recruiting volunteers and contract personnel
• Determines needs for and assignment of personnel and/or contractors; oversees the day-to-day work performance and coordinates work with contractors and internal departments.
• Participates in collecting fees for services; provides patron assistance with payments; properly stores or transfers cash monies; processes refund requests; initiates purchase orders; tracks revenue and expenditures; contributes to budget monitoring and development
• Serves as liaison with community groups to assess needs and proposes program ideas; engages patrons to solicit feedback on existing programs and identifies gaps in service; implements changes and adjustments to programs to enhance participants’ experience.
• Generates, reviews and maintains a variety of records and reports related to all aspects of programming, training, participation, staff scheduling and other records as required.
• Promotes participation in scheduled activities and explains specialized programs to patrons; interfaces with prospective and current participants through emails, telephone and social media contacts; collaborates with marketing team to create fliers, assists in collecting information for print material, submits material for approval, and posts print advertisements.
• Performs regular safety inspections of assigned units; initiates maintenance work orders; maintains appropriate emergency supplies and first aid inventory for facility
• May be assigned to camp programs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• May attend and participate in councils or associations related to specialty.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
 To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED, and two years of relevant experience, specialized training and at least 30 units completed in recreation or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An associate's degree is preferred.

When assigned to Inclusion: an associate degree from a two-year college with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, or a closely related field, along with two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to use common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers and participants and parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• A valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current auto- mobile insurance. For Therapeutics unit: ability to obtain a commercial driver license within one year of employment (for a 15-passenger van).
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of a negative TB skin test.
• Aquatics Unit: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training; American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor; American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22); American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor; Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator.
• Conejo Senior Volunteer Program (CSVP): ability to obtain ServSafe Food Manager Certification within 90 days of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position provides lead-level work guidance to Recreation Specialists and/or part-time staff, contractors and volunteers. Contributes to and participates in performance evaluations. May act as Recreation Coordinator in their absence.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, provide recreational and educational instruction and activities, social development, guidance and care for preschool and elementary age children by leading and assisting in the selection and coordination of a variety of activities and curriculum at a childcare site.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Child Care Lead Teacher is the lead teacher in the classroom.  Child Care Lead Teachers may also be asked to temporarily oversee a school site when a Site Coordinator is offsite.  If a situation arises where a Site Supervisor is unavailable for an extended period of time a Child Care Lead Teacher with a Site Supervisor Permit will be asked to act as a temporary Site Supervisor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

General supervision is provided by the Child Care Site Coordinator. Child Care Lead Teacher  supervises the classrooms to which they are assigned, including Child Care Aides, Associate Teachers, Teachers, and Full-time Teachers that are assigned to their programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Assist in the development of a diversified program of recreational games, sports, arts, crafts, and other activities for elementary school children.
• Assist in the development of a diversified preschool curriculum of music, science, math, dramatic play, social studies, literature, and recreational activities.
• Plan and lead a variety of activities appropriate to children of various age groups.
• Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events.
• Instruct children in the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment. Instruct children in proper health and hygiene care.
• Assist in the selection and arrangement of field trips, special events and guest speakers.
• Assist with the preparation of site nutrition program.
• Assist with developing discipline techniques and maintaining acceptable classroom behavior from participants.
• Drive/Transport children using City of Pacifica City vans.
• Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facility and equipment.
• Inspect the site and equipment for potential safety hazards; take corrective action to prevent injuries.
• Assist in monitoring site supplies.
• Assist in recording numbers for attendance and nutrition reports. Perform related duties as assigned.
• Assist Site Supervisors with the evaluation process for Childcare Aides, Associate Teachers, Teachers, and Full-time Teachers (I/II) that are assigned to their programs.
• Attend and participate in required in-service training activities.
• Assist Site Coordinator in preparing yearly State of California Desired Results reports, including managing children’s portfolios, and monitoring student progress by using Desired Results Developmental Profile and designated online educational platforms.

The City of San Carlos has an opportunity for a full-time Maintenance Worker to work in their Public Works Department. This classification performs a variety of routine, heavy labor and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of public works facilities, City parks, and City buildings.

Essential Duties

• Perform daily safety checks and routine maintenance of equipment to ensure it is safe for use.
• Use proper techniques for operation of equipment and tools in a safe manner, according to accepted City procedures.
• Operate maintenance equipment and tools such as trucks, power tools, sewer rodder, hydraulic jet rodder/vacuum truck, loader backhoe, compressor, boom truck, CCTV truck, pneumatic and electro-mechanical controls, and related equipment and tools for a variety of construction and maintenance operations.
• Perform on-call duties and work in emergency situations as required.
• Install, repair and modify pump station machinery and controls.
• Check pump stations for proper operation; troubleshoot and remedy malfunctions and stoppages.
• Read and interpret maps of underground sewer and drainage systems.
• Paint traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate airless line striping equipment.
• Manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.
• Design and manufacture special signs for municipal facilities.
• Install and remove traffic barricades and cones as required.
• Repair surface failures, utility cuts, chuckholes and seals cracks in asphalt pavements properly and competently.
• Break out and replace concrete sidewalks and gutters using a concrete saw, pavement breaker, wooden forms, and hand tools to finish the surface.
• Clean sanitary sewer lines using hand tools, a hydraulic jet rodder/vacuum and mechanical rodder.
• Excavate, remove, and install sanitary sewer pipes utilizing hand tools, power tools such as pneumatic pavement breakers, compaction equipment and loader backhoe.
• Repair storm drains, catch basins and storm drain pipes.
• Drive dump trucks to haul material to and from the job sites.
• Rake leaves, shovel and digs holes.
• Pick up and dispose of trash and debris from parks and roadsides.
• Control the growth of weeds in lawn areas, shrub areas and flower beds using hand tools, spray equipment and weed eaters.
• Trim trees, hedges, and shrubs using appropriate equipment, remove debris.
• Check irrigation sprinkler systems and ensures their proper functioning, by cleaning and adjusting heads and digging up and repairing broken lines.
• Clean City's park buildings by sweeping and mopping floors, carpets, and cleaning restroom facilities. Replaces light bulbs.
• Provide set up of tables and chairs for City functions.

Experience:

• Three (3) years experience in recreation, community services, or related field.

License:

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
• Possession of valid certificates in Lifeguarding, CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED and Emergency Oxygen are highly desirable.

Special Requirements:

• Position will require working occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.

Under the supervision and general direction of the District Engineer, this student engineering position  performs a variety of basic technical civil engineering duties such as mapping, data entry, review of residential and commercial developments, and supporting capital projects. Responsibilities include assisting the Associate Engineer with project management, plan review, fee calculations, permit issuance, maintaining engineering records, conducting field surveys, site inspections, and data analysis. Responsibilities also include assisting the Engineering Technician in GIS and AutoCAD related projects as needed.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Engineering Intern is a part-time hourly/non-exempt position that performs varied tasks and assists the Engineering Team with applied research, inspections, and administrative support functions as part of the learning experience in conjunction with educational coursework leading to an advanced degree in Engineering.

Examples of Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performs general GIS/AutoCAD map updates and modifications including the collection of GPS data points.
• Performs supervised plan checks on new development, capital projects, remodels, and tenant improvements for compliance with State laws and Regulations and modern construction techniques.
• Confers with property owners and contractors to explain requirements and to induce compliance to Regulations.
• Maintains electronic and paper records of changes of plans and specifications, manages the data necessary for establishing sewer connection permits and changes and maintains related records.
• Performs basic drafting work, laying out and correcting of maps, plans and diagrams.
• Prepares reports, spreadsheets, databases, graphs, tables, and other supporting project related documentation, records, and notes. 
• Assists District Engineer with the management and successful completion of Capital Improvement projects, Recycled Water projects, Flow Equalization land development and consolidation efforts;
• Assist homeowners and developers in the administration and calculation of reimbursement agreements and annexation into the main sewer line system.
• Assists with the review of plans and specifications for a variety of engineering related projects and initiatives.
• Assists with creating, maintaining, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for computer operations related to functional areas of operations.
• Provide general and specific information to developers, contractors, design consultants, the public, and staff on specifications, ordinances, and policies.
• Performs varied mathematical computations.
• Ensures safety and health procedures and precautions are adhered to, corrects unsafe work conditions/practices and/or reports unsafe work conditions/practices to assigned supervisory or managerial staff.
• Performs related duties as assigned

The Public Works Department is recruiting to fill several Event Services Representative (Recreation Leader – Part Time Unbenefited) positions to support the coordination of events occurring at City Hall. The ideal candidates will possess a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills, and a strong work ethic. The position requires excellent judgment, initiative, independence, integrity, organizational skills, flexibility, and written and verbal communication skills.  

Event Services Representatives assist in monitoring and providing customer/client support for special events. Event Services Representatives maybe required to provide technical assistance and set up of equipment on day of event, assist in resolving customer issues and complaints, and respond to emergency situations during events. The on-site Event Services Representative coordinates with event staff such as ushers, ticket takers, security, crowd control, outside contractors, and performs facility safety checks which may include enforcing Safety and Fire Marshall Regulations.  

Due to the nature of the job responsibilities, Event Services Representatives must be able to:  

• Work extended/irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. 

• Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. 

• Lift and carry items weighing between 25 and 50 pounds on an as needed basis. 

• Comprehend verbal and written instructions. 

• Prepare event reports. 

A post-offer pre-employment TB test may be conducted by City of San José Employee Health Services.
