About the Position:  The ideal candidate has solid public sector finance, budget, policy, purchasing, project tracking, and asset management experience; possesses excellent judgment, curiosity, and proactive problem solving skills; and has the ability to successfully coordinate and accomplish professional-level administrative and program work. The successful candidate is detail-oriented, yet can see the broader perspective; has a proven ability to build positive and productive relationships; possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and provides excellent customer service.  Flexibility and the capacity to comfortably adapt to and manage change in an evolving workplace are a must.

This position provides administrative, budgetary, and work-flow support to the Land and Facilities Services Department projects and programs; analyzes programmatic practices and procedures and makes recommendations for organizational, operational, policy, and procedural improvements; conducts needs analyses, feasibility studies, and evaluations for assigned projects and programs; develops, summarizes, and maintains administrative and fiscal records, including tracking of departmental project status; fosters cooperative working relationships among District departments and acts as liaison with various community, public, and regulatory agencies. Coordinates and performs professional-level administrative and programmatic work in such areas as, purchasing, database management, contract administration, public information, and program evaluation.  Plans, organizes, and reviews the work of contractors and assigned staff performing operational activities within the Land and Facilities Services Department including coordination of the procurement of capital equipment, maintenance of radio communication systems, and fleet management. 

Work Environment: This is primarily a sedentary office classification.  Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Some fieldwork may be required, which involves the ability to walk for short distances over rough terrain, drive vehicles over unimproved roads, and stand for extended periods. 

Education and Experience:  Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration or a related field, and three (3) years of professional analytical experience, or two (2) years of experience equivalent to Management Analyst I at the District.  Public sector experience is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications Required:   Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

The City of Livermore is currently conducting a recruitment to fill a Landscape Maintenance Specialist position in the Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department.  This is an advanced journey level classification and requires specialized knowledge in irrigation, contract monitoring, and arborist responsibilities.

Under general supervision, the Landscape Maintenance Specialist performs landscape inspection work; performs a variety of skilled irrigation operations and repair work; monitors contracts to ensure work completion meets contract requirements; responds to a variety of citizen requests and/or complaints; prepares detailed reports; reviews and makes recommendations on tree removal permits; and performs other duties as assigned.

The City of Brisbane is accepting applications for our summer internships.  Our internships are project oriented and are designed to give college students a good general overview of future employment opportunities and current issues in the Public Sector.  You will have the opportunity for exposure to various areas of City Administration during your internship, as well as have opportunities to network with fellow interns and participate in professional development activities in San Mateo County and/or Santa Clara County.

Projects for 2019 include

• Sustainability – Support the City’s climate and environment goals including reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and waste, and preservation of open space and natural resources. Assignments will focus primarily on education and outreach activities for a new building efficiency program, local habitat restoration events, regional and state incentive programs, and other priorities of the Open Space and Ecology Committee.

Applicants must be college students currently enrolled in and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in environmental engineering, environmental studies, sustainability or other related field.  Undergraduate candidates must have a minimum 48 semester units or equivalent completed.  Applicants should also be self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal skills, able to use Microsoft Office software, demonstrate good research ability and have the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. 

SALARY AND HOURS:  Salary range for Interns starts at $15.00 per hour, 25-28 hours per week over a 12 week period.  Start date is flexible depending on student’s availability.

The City of Salinas Public Library is looking for a part-time, benefited Literacy Specialist with a passion for building community and nurturing lifelong learning through adult literacy programs, supported by a dynamic group of volunteers and staff. Under the supervision of the Adult Services Senior Librarian, the Literacy Specialist will be responsible for helping support a variety of adult and family literacy programs. One area of focus will include expanding the training for new volunteers in the Adult Literacy Program as well as the professional development opportunities and support for current Adult Literacy volunteers. The Literacy Specialist will help identify resources and materials for use by volunteers in teaching, tutoring and assisting with Learners and classes, and more.

THE POSITION

The Park Maintenance Division of the Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic and motivated candidates for the position of Park Maintenance Worker II.  Under immediate supervision, the Park Maintenance Worker II will perform routine park maintenance and repair work in the care of parks, recreation areas and equipment.  

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

- Maintain parks, pedways and other city owned sites.
- Plant, cultivate, water, and fertilize trees, shrubs and flowers.
- Water, mow, weed, trim, aerate and fertilize lawns.
- Spray or apply fungicides, insecticides and herbicides.
- Pick up trash and litter.
- Repair and install irrigation systems.
- Plan and schedule routine daily work activities.
- Ensure that assigned tasks are accomplished in areas for which responsible.
- Report delays and reasons for delays; record on a daily work sheet, time and work performed and materials used.
- May provide input regarding estimating supply and equipment needs.
- Perform heavy physical labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects.
