ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs. This is the entry level classification in the professional police series requiring sworn peace officer status.

Examples of Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):

•  Patrol the City in radio-equipped car or on foot.
•  Answer calls for the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of city, county, and state laws.
• Conduct both preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, hold-ups, vehicle accidents, death, and other criminal incidents.

About Maple Street Correctional Center
Designed to create a better environment for incarcerated individuals and staff and to help reduce recidivism, the facility was the first correctional center built as part of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s initiative to shift nonviolent, nonsexual offenders from overcrowded state prisons to county-run facilities. The center accommodates female and lower-risk male incarcerated individuals and is composed of two separate but interconnected buildings with a central administration area.

The facility’s architecture emphasizes safety, rehabilitation, and natural light. Instead of placing cells along the exterior walls as in most jails, the design features a curved glass façade with dayrooms located along windowed areas that open to individual living units. This layout improves supervision while allowing daylight to enter the building, helping the white-painted cells feel more open and spacious.

Each floor has a central core station supporting four housing units. These areas include classrooms, a computer lab, and multipurpose rooms to support educational and rehabilitative programming. Additional design elements include natural ventilation, a large rooftop recreation yard, artwork depicting scenes from nature, and a calming natural color palette.

An attached 88-bed transitional housing facility supports alternative sentencing programs such as day reporting, weekend programs, and other supervised custody arrangements, helping prepare individuals for reentry into the community.

Step 3:  Physical Agility Examination – Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB): This exam must be passed with a minimum score of 320 and be dated within twelve (12) months of the date of application. Applicants can submit scores from either the WSTB or the Correctional Officer test through The Academy. The events for the Correctional Officer test include:

• 99-yard obstacle course in under 23 seconds
• 165-pound body drag for 32-feet in under 7 seconds

• 500-yard run in under 2 minutes
• 1.5-mile run in 15 minutes or less

IMPORTANT: When you report for the test, inform The Academy that you are applying to be a Correctional Officer with San Mateo County. San Mateo County Correctional Officer applicants will not be required to participate in climbing the 6-foot chain link fence or 6-foot solid wall portion of the WSTB test.

NOTE: PELLETB test and WSTB results from other training organizations or law enforcement agencies will be accepted so long as they meet California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements.

 

 

Examples Of Duties

Sheriff's Correctional Officer duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Receive, search, book, fingerprint, and guard inmates in the correctional facilities.  
• Take custody of inmates’ property.  
• Maintain records of bookings, releases, transfers, money and other functions of the correctional facilities.
• Prepare inmates for court and for release.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

If designated as Correctional Deputy, also perform the following:

• Transport and provide security for inmates at the hospital.
• Transport inmates between custodial facilities.
• Provide security for inmates at court.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

Education: 

• A high school graduate or passing the General Education Development (GED) test or other high school equivalency test approved by CDE, or completion of at least 30 college units from an accredited or approved institution to apply.

The City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior C/CAG Transportation Program Specialist to perform a variety of program administrative and technical support functions related to C/CAG transportation and land use programs.  

 

As part of an interdisciplinary team and under general supervision, this role involves managing and executing high-level, specialized projects. Responsibilities include planning, developing, and implementing countywide programs and policies, particularly those related to C/CAG initiatives. The role demands providing expert-level analysis and technical support on related legislation, along with overseeing a range of complex C/CAG programs and projects. The candidate will serve as a subject matter authority in transportation program areas, demonstrating broad expertise. 

 

The Senior C/CAG Transportation Program Specialist is the lead or specialist level class in the C/CAG Program Specialist Series. In the lead assignment, incumbents provide direction to C/CAG Program Specialist I/II staff, including assigning, directing, and reviewing their work. At this level, incumbents may provide supervision and leadership on a project or program basis to consultants/contractors, volunteers, and other staff including assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of professional staff. In the specialist assignment, incumbents work on dedicated projects or the largest, most visible, complex, and political assignments within the program. 

 

This position will support key program areas, including airport land use compatibility planning, transportation demand management (TDM) policy, community-based transportation planning, and active transportation (bicycle and pedestrian) programs.

Primary responsibilities and duties of the Senior C/CAG Transportation Program Specialist may include, but are not limited to, the following:

The Procurement Division of the County Executive’s Office provides procurement services to all County departments and acts as a regulatory mechanism to help county departments obtain maximum value for each dollar spent, while maintaining compliance with all relevant County, State, and Federal laws, ordinances, and policies.   The Procurement Division (Division) also connects with and assists vendors in conducting business with the County.

The Position

THE POSITION
Under the supervision of a shift lead, the Public Safety Dispatcher processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, and other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as Computer Aided Dispatch systems (CAD); and performs other related duties as assigned.
 
The ideal candidate will possess a POST Basic Certificate, EMD Certificate, EFD Certificate, and knowledge in all disciplines of Police/Fire and EMS dispatching and one year as a Public Safety Dispatcher with a demonstrated background in the operation of modern Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.  Note:  The POST Basic Certificate is required at time of application. Ability to: Plan, schedule, assign, and oversee activities of an efficient and functional occupational health and safety program and Water/Wastewater industrial training program; communicate essential program functions clearly and effectively to all levels of staff; inspect the work of others and maintain established quality control standards; train others in work procedures; analyze data and information using established criteria in order to determine consequences and to identify and select alternatives; oversee and participate in safety related projects, studies, and programs; meet the requirements to wear respiratory protection or other safety equipment; develop, modify, implement, and coordinate the provision of a variety of safety and industrial training pertinent to water and wastewater operations, environmental compliance; investigate and analyze a variety of plant, field, and office operations in order to implement and provide effective training and safety programs for a variety of staff covering a wide spectrum of operations and areas; prepare and maintain both manual and automated safety logs, records, reports, and charts; recognize unusual, inefficient, or dangerous operating conditions; represent the Department in matters related to safety, occupational health, and environmental compliance programs as required; prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, and other written materials; assemble data, prepare reports and notices, and maintain records of testing and findings; organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines; perform work in confined spaces, following required confined space entry procedures; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure and in inclement weather, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education: Graduation from High School or equivalent. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree majoring in industrial engineering, safety engineering, occupational health, or closely related field desirable.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in the areas of workplace safety and employee training, including at least one (1) year of which involved administration of a comprehensive safety and accident prevention program. Five (5) years of experience in the areas of workplace safety and employee training, including at least three (3) years of which have involved administration of a comprehensive safety and accident prevention program desirable.

License/Certification: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License; possession of a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care Provider certificate and First Aid certificate or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of appointment.

The following certifications are highly desirable:

 

• Certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and an Associate Risk Manager (ARM)
• Certification by the State Water Resources Control Board in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, or Wastewater Treatment
• Certification by the California Water Environment Association in Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical/Instrumentation, or Environmental Compliance Inspection
  Physical Requirements: Moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion required, including sustained walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting and carrying. May have to work on ladders, in tunnels and confined spaces, hazardous atmospheres and in protective garments. May work in adverse conditions which require exposure to inclement weather, noise, noxious odors, gases, or contact with water and/or wastewater.
