The City of Brisbane, a close-knit community committed to exceptional public service, is seeking a proactive, experienced, and customer-focused Deputy Director of Public Works / City Engineer.

The Deputy Director of Public Works / City Engineer, plans, directs and manages assigned functional areas within the engineering or utility division in connection with engineering design, construction, inspection, transportation projects and the capital improvement program; staffs one or more citizen advisory committees; performs advanced professional engineering assignments on a wide range of municipal projects of a complex nature; serves as project manager on a variety of projects; supervises engineering and technical staff of the department directly or through subordinate levels of supervision on a day to day basis; functions as department head in their absence as assigned. Serves as the City Engineer responsible for engineering standards, development review, and oversight of public works engineering activities.

Class Characteristics
Deputy Director of Public Works – City Engineer is a Deputy Director level engineering classification responsible for overseeing the City’s engineering functions and performing a wide variety of engineering duties requiring independent judgement and initiative in prioritizing, scheduling, assigning and coordinating work. This class requires registration as a professional engineer. This class is distinguished from all other engineering classes by its supervisory and administrative responsibilities over a wide range of duties as well as the requirement to perform the more complex engineering and project management assignments. Assignments and projects may be long-term or may constitute a major portion of a continuous or comprehensive engineering or construction program. Typically assigned functional areas include private development review and plan checking, oversight of regulatory compliance (e.g., Municipal Regional Permit [NPDES], Cal-OSHA, SWRCB/RWQCB non-utility related orders), waste franchise, Sierra Point Lighting & Landscape District, and Capital Improvement Program.

Supervision Received and Exercised:

Receives general direction from the Public Works Department Head.

Provides general supervision to engineering, maintenance, and administrative support staff.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties- the duties described below are provided as examples and are not to be considered as exclusive or all-inclusive:

• Recommends and assists in development and implementation of departmental policies, goals, and objectives.  
• Plans, directs, and coordinates engineering work programs and activities within the Public Works Department, directly and through subordinate levels of supervision.
• Manages the City’s Capital Improvement Program and Projects; supervises, coordinates, and reviews all public works engineering activities, including engineering design, inspection, and survey; contract administration, and construction management for projects planned and approved by City Council; Deputy Director of Public Works prepares plans, specifications, and estimates. Deputy Director of Public Works – City Engineer has overall responsibility for the city’s CIP.  
• Supervises staff assigned, including scheduling, assigning, prioritizing, and reviewing work; training and evaluating staff; approving time off; and developing effective recommendations on all employee actions.  
• Assigns work and exercises general supervision of office and field staff in order to effectively utilize their services and accomplish objectives.  
• Oversees consultants and professionals hired by the City for the purposes of designing and completing public works construction projects and studies.  
• Establishes criteria for design, construction, and inspection of public works projects.  
• Oversees the inspection of public works construction by contractors for established plans and specifications.  
• Supervises and participates in the development and administration of the department’s capital and operating budgets; directs the forecast of additional funds needed for construction, staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures.  
• Prepares work programs and special engineering studies.  
• Reviews and prepares specifications and obtains bids for construction and maintenance projects; accepts or rejects such specifications and bids; verifies computations, plans, specifications, and estimates for public works facility’s projects; reviews and signs engineering drawings and land record maps.  
• Evaluates and applies for grants; provides for administration and oversight of reporting requirements.
• Conducts negotiations on engineering matters and accepts or rejects change order requests related to contracts; addresses contractor claims.
• Manages administrative matters; prepares and oversees budgets and monitors monthly expenditures; manages requests for additional funding.
• Prepares fee assessments and agenda reports.
• Develops record maintenance systems, procedures, and training necessary for maintaining effective liaison with other City departments.  
• Serves as department head in the absence of the director, including attending and participating in City Council, community and board and commission meetings.
• Responds to questions and requests from the general public, including conducting correspondence and attending meetings.

Summary
Under general supervision, performs technical paraprofessional accounting duties including payroll processing and accounts receivables and payables for Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) and Mountain Recreation & Conservation Authority (MRCA); prepares accounting records and journal entries as necessary; generates reports and reconciles data; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of technical duties to ensure accurate and timely data entry and processing of various financial records; documents financial transactions in general ledger accounts; reconciles bank, accounting and payroll data; analyzes journal entries; corrects discrepancies.
• Compiles timesheets from District and MRCA employees, inputs payroll data into payroll system, prints proof list and verifies hours; corrects errors in time reporting; processes payroll and allocates payroll costs to budget appropriation accounts.
• Calculates and prepares payment for a variety of taxes including sales tax, payroll taxes and income withholdings; assists with issuance of employee, contractor and vendor tax statements.
• Processes routine and special check runs; validates accuracy of coding and payments and prepares checks for mailing or distribution.
• Prepares direct deposit, warrants and wire transfer information for approval and transmittal to the bank before established deadlines; prepares bank deposits.
• Maintains independent contractor and vendor records and databases including contracts, payment and ACH information.
• Assists with generating financial reports, spreadsheets and records; maintains purchase order file and records expenses; scans and files data and documents in accordance with District and MRCA records management policies and procedures.
• Gathers statement backup and reconciles Cal-Card statements; processes approved payments.
• Researches and answers District and MRCA employee and department inquiries regarding payroll, reimbursements and general status inquiries.  

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides backup to divisional administrative staff.
• Assists in research and preparation of data for payroll and financial audits and special reports requested by auditors, MRCA administrators, and other public agencies.
• May be required to drive District or personal vehicle.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• Non-exempt employees may be required to work overtime
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from a two-year college with an associate degree, coursework in accounting, finance or a related field, and two years of progressively technical accounting experience in financial recordkeeping, payroll, reconciliation of various types of accounts, and prep­aration of journal entries; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret accounting documents, procedure manuals and govern­mental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate business needs.  

Math Ability: Ability to accurately calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commis­sions, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic accounting and finance.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to analyze and reconcile fiscal recording, banking and payroll records. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written or oral form.

Certificates and Licenses: 

• All full-time employees require satisfactory completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination.

The Town of Truckee is seeking an experienced, highly-motivated, collaborative team member to play a vital role in the Town’s Engineering Division. The primary focus of this position advertisement is to find a key team member to join the Division in either the Assistant or Associate Engineer role, depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
The Engineering Division works on the implementation of a variety of Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs) including new trails, roundabouts, streetscape improvements, roadway infrastructure, and miscellaneous Council priorities, such as new parks or new Town facility improvements. This position will be involved in the planning, design, permitting, and construction management of a variety of these types of CIPs. On the private development side, the Division oversees the design and construction of site and right-of-way improvements associated with private development, such as the Soaring Ranch Development (Raley’s shopping center), Truckee Railyard projects, subdivisions, commercial projects, and affordable housing projects. The Assistant/Associate Engineer position is also responsible for administering grant funds when applicable, project budget management, and responding to community requests related to the Engineering Division’s responsibilities, such as sign requests, drainage issues, or traffic concerns.
The distinction between the Assistant/Associate levels is the ability to perform up to the full range of duties assigned, including differing levels of independent use of judgement, under the general supervision of the Senior Engineer or Engineering Manager. The Associate Engineer level requires current registration as a licensed professional engineer in the State of California. The Assistant Engineer does not require registration as a licensed professional engineer, although education in an engineering or related field is desired.

The Senior Civil Engineer (CE) plans, manages, and coordinates the engineering program. Using broad parameters of departmental policy guidelines, this position exercises substantial initiative, judgment, and expertise to meet program and project outcomes. The Senior Civil Engineer creates the scope on large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines, integrating numerous elements that significant stakeholder involvement and sensitivity. CITY OF SARATOGA, CITY MANAGER DEPARTMENT • INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

This internship is offered as part of a Regional Internship Partnership designed to introduce current students and recent college graduates to local municipal government. The City of Saratoga participates in this program with the goal of connecting a diverse student population to public sector work, providing meaningful hands-on experience that supports both personal and professional growth.

Position Description

The City Manager Department has one part-time, paid summer internship opportunity (up to 20 hours per week). This is a single position that provides exposure across multiple functions within the department, giving the selected intern broad exposure to municipal operations rather than a narrow focus on one specialty. The internship runs for up to 12 weeks, and the start and end dates can be arranged around the selected candidate’s college summer break schedule.

The workload will balance supporting daily municipal operations with contributing to special projects. The intern will receive assignments and work direction from staff within the department.  

Administrative Analyst. The intern will support the planning and delivery of community programs such as the Youth in Government program and City-led events. Duties include scheduling, vendor coordination, on-site event assistance, research on municipal best practices, and data tracking.

City Clerk. The intern will assist with the preparation and coordination of City Council and commission meetings, including agenda compilation, minutes, and document management. Responsibilities also include supporting public records requests and ensuring compliance with open meeting laws and transparency requirements.

Public Affairs and Community Engagement Officer. The intern will help draft newsletters, website content, and social media posts, and will support event promotion, marketing materials, and community outreach campaigns. Additional work may include contributing to the annual State of the City report and video content produced with City Council.
