The City of Thousand Oaks has an excellent promotional opportunity for a Landscape Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works department.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform skilled work in the pruning, care, and maintenance of trees and grounds maintenance, including chemical application duties
• Perform heavy manual labor in the care and maintenance of trees and in performing grounds maintenance
• Install, repair, and program irrigation systems and controllers
• Perform graffiti removal
• Perform routine and emergency work from an aerial lift bucket
• Assist in overseeing the work of contractors
• Assist with encampment and abandoned property clean-up efforts (e.g. supporting police personnel in non-enforcement and enforcement situations, or contracted services by posting, documenting, collecting, storing and/or disposing of private property or debris)

 

Note: Work Schedule – 4/40 (Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Position involves performing after-hours emergency work on an “as needed” basis and on-call duties on a rotating basis.

The City of San Carlos has an opportunity for a full-time Maintenance Worker to work in their Public Works Department. This classification performs a variety of routine, heavy labor and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of public works facilities, City parks, and City buildings.

Essential Duties

• Perform daily safety checks and routine maintenance of equipment to ensure it is safe for use.
• Use proper techniques for operation of equipment and tools in a safe manner, according to accepted City procedures.
• Operate maintenance equipment and tools such as trucks, power tools, sewer rodder, hydraulic jet rodder/vacuum truck, loader backhoe, compressor, boom truck, CCTV truck, pneumatic and electro-mechanical controls, and related equipment and tools for a variety of construction and maintenance operations.
• Perform on-call duties and work in emergency situations as required.
• Install, repair and modify pump station machinery and controls.
• Check pump stations for proper operation; troubleshoot and remedy malfunctions and stoppages.
• Read and interpret maps of underground sewer and drainage systems.
• Paint traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate airless line striping equipment.
• Manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.
• Design and manufacture special signs for municipal facilities.
• Install and remove traffic barricades and cones as required.
• Repair surface failures, utility cuts, chuckholes and seals cracks in asphalt pavements properly and competently.
• Break out and replace concrete sidewalks and gutters using a concrete saw, pavement breaker, wooden forms, and hand tools to finish the surface.
• Clean sanitary sewer lines using hand tools, a hydraulic jet rodder/vacuum and mechanical rodder.
• Excavate, remove, and install sanitary sewer pipes utilizing hand tools, power tools such as pneumatic pavement breakers, compaction equipment and loader backhoe.
• Repair storm drains, catch basins and storm drain pipes.
• Drive dump trucks to haul material to and from the job sites.
• Rake leaves, shovel and digs holes.
• Pick up and dispose of trash and debris from parks and roadsides.
• Control the growth of weeds in lawn areas, shrub areas and flower beds using hand tools, spray equipment and weed eaters.
• Trim trees, hedges, and shrubs using appropriate equipment, remove debris.
• Check irrigation sprinkler systems and ensures their proper functioning, by cleaning and adjusting heads and digging up and repairing broken lines.
• Clean City's park buildings by sweeping and mopping floors, carpets, and cleaning restroom facilities. Replaces light bulbs.
• Provide set up of tables and chairs for City functions.

The Position: 

The Staff Analyst I is responsible for program analysis and administrative duties in support of assigned programs and activities. Assigned programs could include housing development, community development, community outreach, historic preservation, advanced planning, public/private housing rehabilitation, management analysis, building services, human services, criminal statistics, solid waste, recycling, waste prevention, sustainability, urban runoff pollution prevention, and federal/state grant programs and activities.  Performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Senior Office Assistant is the advanced journey level classification in the office support series in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full scope of assigned duties. Incumbents perform a full range of complex and difficult specialized office support duties, with responsibilities requiring the use of independent judgment or the application of technical or related skills. Incumbents often function as the only office support for an organizational or functional unit. • May assist with and/or administer special projects; coordinates specific projects, including fostering cooperative working relationships with civic groups, inter-governmental agencies and City staff; helps develop, implement and maintain goals, objectives, policies and priorities for assigned projects and service areas; helps ensure that established goals and priorities are achieved; attends and participates in professional and community meetings; stays current on related issues; serves as a technical resource.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading written reports and work-related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required.

Role description

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is looking for two 9180 Manager VI Senior Operations Managers of Maintenance: one manager for Bus Maintenance and one manager for Rail Maintenance.

9180 Senior Operations Manager of Bus Maintenance: Under policy direction of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Director of Transit, the Senior Operations Manager of Bus Maintenance plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the major activities of the Bus Maintenance unit. The Bus Maintenance unit represents more than 8 maintenance sections with skilled craft personnel responsible for the service, maintenance and repair of fleet comprised of more than 850 bio-diesel hybrid buses, electric trolley coaches and over 500 non-revenue vehicles and equipment including support facilities. 

9180 Senior Operations Manager of Rail Maintenance: Under policy direction of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Director of Transit, the Senior Operations Manager of Rail Maintenance plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the major activities of the Rail Maintenance unit. The Rail Maintenance unit represents more than 8 maintenance sections with skilled craft personnel responsible for the service, maintenance and repair of fleet comprised of more than 250 light rail vehicles, cable cars, and historic street cars including support facilities. 

9180 - Manager VI: Senior Operations Manager of Maintenance: The positions are responsible for leading overall vehicle and equipment maintenance, collaborating with fleet engineering for rubber-tire and/or rail cars, developing vehicle fleet plans to support revenue service requirements and monitoring activities related to vehicle procurement. These positions direct activities to ensure compliance with local, state and federal guidelines, safety and regulatory policies including leading investigation of activities directly related to field safety and overall vehicle maintenance.

The 9180 Senior Operations Managers of Maintenance are responsible for implementing programs and processes to enhance all aspects heavy and light-duty transit vehicles, and/or light rail and historic service. These positions provide leadership and guidance to a team of skilled craft personnel and supervisors, deliver highly complex management and policy support, and may be required to perform duties in the absence of the Deputy Director of Fleet Maintenance. The positions are subject to 24-hour callback during emergency situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Bus and Rail Maintenance:

• Provides direction, planning and management of the daily activities of Transit’s Bus/Rail Maintenance section and coordinates the work of professional and technical personnel;
• Oversees heavy-duty transit vehicle maintenance/ light rail vehicle maintenance by monitoring daily fleet availability and vehicle maintenance reports for trends and coordinates with supervisory staff to ensure maintenance programs are developed and implemented to ensure vehicle availability;
• Ensures adherence to heavy-duty transit, light rail, historic, and/or cable car vehicle safety programs and re-evaluates existing programs;
• Assists in developing and implementing strategies for safe, accessible and reliable transit service;
• Analyzes operations to improve productivity within various work sections;
• Coordinates workforce planning through staffing analysis and required adjustments to work schedules and staffing levels to ensure maximum efficiency for fulfillment of vehicle service requirements and demands;
• May be involved with the design and review of engineering plans and specifications for SFMTA vehicle procurement plans and construction projects;
• Oversees the training function including the development of new training programs for rail staff;
• Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures to ensure unit activities align with division objectives;
• Assists in the development, preparation and modification of short and long-range strategic plans in support of the SFMTA’s goals;
• Interprets and applies the provisions of the labor agreements in accordance with SFMTA guidelines and serves as a member of the management team in meetings and negotiations with labor unions;
• Develops, monitors and manages the operating budget for area of responsibility and assists in the development, analysis and administration of department’s capital budget;
• Develops detailed technical reports for various internal stakeholders and external regulatory agencies; 

The 9180 – Manager VI may perform other duties as assigned/required. 

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; AND
2. Experience: Eight (8) years of experience at a mass transit agency in the operation, maintenance, and repair of transit buses, and/or light rail transit vehicles, and/or related systems, and/or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.  This experience must include at least four (4) years in a second-level supervisory and/or management-level position with responsibility for supervising staff. AND
3. License: Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience in the functional areas listed above at any level (i.e., non-supervisory, any supervisory level, management level) may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for year basis. One year (2,000 hours) will be considered equivalent to thirty semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units.

Notes:

1. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

2. One (1) year full-time experience is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time experience.

DEFINITION
Under general direction, performs complex and responsible technical and clerical work for the Director of Human Resources and as administrative support to the City's Human Resources Department. Completes related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An incumbent in this position is a Human Resources generalist performing a wide range of personnel assignments in administering and processing health and welfare benefits; managing the administrative duties associated with the Personnel Board and overseeing the preparation and management of all employee requisition and action forms; managing the office and providing administrative support to the Director of Human Resources, Assistant to the Director of Human Resources, Senior Management Analyst, the Human Resources Analyst(s) and Human Resources Specialist(s).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Including but not limited to maintaining frequent, sensitive and critical contacts with public and private agencies, other departments, professionals and officials; transmits information, decisions and directives. Answers inquiries by phone or email; investigates and resolves complaints or provides information, explains departmental or City procedures; exercises judgment in giving information and proper disposition of problems; composes correspondence and prepares reports. Maintains and files employees' personnel records and other departmental records; provides information to employees regarding benefits. Screens telephone calls and visitors; receives, screens and routes incoming mail for appropriate action and follows up on its disposition; arranges for meetings and conferences and assists in providing material on information to be discussed. Interprets and apply rules and regulations of the classified service. Keeps abreast of pertinent information and changes in City procedures and regulations.

Prepares inter-office memoranda and requisition forms; elicits employee evaluation forms for all departments by preparing and transmitting initial forms. Manages performance appraisal forms for distribution in accordance with established procedures. Serves as Assistant for the Personnel Board, other related meetings, and disciplinary and appeal hearings by collecting, preparing, and sending agendas, taking and transcribing minutes, and typing and distributing minutes and other material. Processes and manages distribution retiree health reimbursement checks. Administers Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Program, tracks employee driving records and issues quarterly department list of commercial drivers’ medical expirations. May assist in responding to internal and external surveys. May assist department personnel with data entry on applicant tracking program, proctoring Civil Service examinations, in administering certification of active Civil Service Employment Lists using applicant tracking program, and assists with City-wide events. Processes employee separations and cafeteria plan worksheets, enters employee information into ERP system, tracks employee trainings; and processes invoices.

Provides support to the Director of Human Resources, Assistant to the Director of Human Resources, Senior Management Analyst, Human Resources Analyst(s) and Human Resources Specialist(s). Administers the documentation requirements of the 1986 Immigration and Control Act. Prepares and processes required Human Resources’ forms, such as new employee forms and employee Action Forms. Assists with preparation and publication of the employee newsletter. Maintains and orders office supplies and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: Communicates effectively both orally and in writing; speaks to and direct large groups; Interacts positively and cooperate with co-workers, responds politely to customers, works as a team member, functions under demanding time pressure, responds in a positive manner to supervision, attends work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis. Understands and applies instructions, rules, regulations and policies including the City’s Rules and Regulations of the Classified Service; analyzes, processes and schedules detailed work accurately; learns, understands, and communicates employee benefit parameters and regulations, learns and uses Microsoft Office Suite applications, Human Resources Information System (HRIS), applicant tracking system and other City software programs. Transcribes proceedings at meetings of commissions, boards or special committees; exercises good judgment in matters of a confidential nature; works independently in absence of supervision.

Knowledge of: Appropriate English grammar and spelling; current office equipment and methods including operation of computer programs, including advanced, competent use of Microsoft Word; record keeping and organizational practices; basic arithmetic; and certain federal, state and municipal personnel regulations.

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent and an Associate of Arts (AA) degree.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in administrative and Human Resources technical work that involved regular contact with the public.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

 

The Department of Community Development is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Management Fellow. Designed to attract top talent from graduate schools to commit to meaningful and value-driven work in local government, the Management Fellowship program creates a channel into future leadership opportunities within local government. Primarily designed for recent postgraduate candidates as well as current Master's program students. The Fellowship is a limited 1-year term position beginning Spring 2026 with the option to extend for an additional year.

 

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City, Community Development Department is seeking a value-driven team player to join the Department. Through mentorship and under general supervision, the Fellow will assist in coordinating and managing specific projects to completion in the areas of budgeting, planning, community engagement, procurement, and legislative policy, especially related to the Planning and Building Divisions in Community Development.

Some of the various projects and responsibilities may include:

• Performing policy research and analysis, identifying relevant legislation, and developing recommendation positions as related to Planning and Building policy
• Assisting with the City’s budget process
• Program and Performance Management analysis towards the goal of identifying efficiencies
• Statistical analysis of data; and preparing findings and/or recommendations to the supervising Management Analyst
• Assisting with community engagement and the development of outreach strategies, reviewing the Staff Report Guide and implementing, training and supporting staff to improve staff reports (written reports for City Council)
• Working with the City’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) goals application within the Department, especially in staff reports to City Council 

The Fellowship is a 1-year limited term position with the option to extend for an additional year.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Review of contract invoices, back-up documentation and reports; providing logistical support for meetings; monitoring/tracking budgets and expenditures; assisting with the creation and implementation of performance measures; writing and editing Staff Reports for City Council; assisting with procurement activities such as performing RFPs and stewarding contracts; development, analysis, and working with the City’s Short Term Rental program.

This position provides essential case management services to support individuals and families in accessing community resources and services. HHSA Case Manager I is an entry-level, training-focused role that performs routine case management duties under close supervision. HHSA Case Manager II is the journey-level classification and performs the full range of case management functions, including direct client contact and complex cases, with greater independence and professional judgment. This position may work in one or more Public Health programs such as Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and/or health initiatives related to health equity, health care systems, and social determinants of health. This is an in-person position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

JOB DUTIES

• Assists public health nurses in coordinating and conducting community events, such as immunization clinics; assists with screening process, initial assessments, clinic immunization records management, tracking and appropriate reporting.
• Provides case management through individual or group rehab methods for children and/or adults for a variety of health services programs and services.
• Coordinates services with individuals, coordinates activities with other departments, medical providers, social workers, schools and/or other outreach agencies as appropriate to ensure that the needs of the clients are met.
• Performs general administrative/office work as required, including but not limited to copying and filing documents, preparing/typing documents, answering the telephone, faxing information, entering computer data, attending meetings, ordering supplies, maintaining office cleanliness, etc.
