ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT. The current opening is in the Fire Department and provides an excellent opportunity for an innovative and creative professional seeking variety and challenge. Reporting directly to the Management Analyst, this high-impact role is a key member of the Department’s administrative team.

The successful candidate will serve as the Departments payroll timekeeper. Additional responsibilities include managing executive scheduling, processing invoices and payroll, assisting with the Department’s annual budget, and supporting purchasing card administration. This position requires strong organizational skills, discretion in handling confidential information, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced public safety environment.

The candidate should be a confident, organized, and enthusiastic self-starter able to work well with a large, diverse staff.  The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate office support functions, including project management and other related duties as required.  Good written and oral communications skills are required. 

Typical duties may include the following:

Provides oversight to one or multiple programmatic areas, depending on the department to which assigned; ensures that work is completed in an appropriate manner and that program goals are met; recommends and implements policy or procedural changes related to the programmatic area(s); may develop the budget and time schedules for the programmatic area(s). Confers with staff of other City departments, representatives of government, community, business and public agencies and the public. Organizes and maintains various office files, including personnel and tickler files; purges files as required. The Department: 

The Water and Sewer Utilities Department (Department) is a utility enterprise responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the City's water distribution, sewer collection, and recycled water systems. The Department ensures the reliable delivery of safe drinking water, the efficient collection and conveyance of wastewater, and the sustainable use of recycled water resources to support the community and protect public health and the environment. The Position: 

This is an entry-level maintenance position within the Department. Incumbents are typically assigned to a crew and perform semi-skilled work related to the maintenance, repair, and operation of water, sewer, or recycled water infrastructure. This position may require working irregular hours and extended shifts when job assignments run longer than expected or during emergency response activities. Employees may be exposed to raw sewage, muddy conditions, trenches, and work environments located on busy city streets.

 

Under direction, this position performs work related to the operation, maintenance, inspection, repair, rehabilitation, and replacement of the City of Santa Clara’s water distribution system, sanitary sewer collection system, and recycled water system. Work includes performing heavy physical labor associated with routine maintenance, system repairs, and emergency response activities related to the City's utility infrastructure and associated appurtenances.

 

This position requires one (1) year of related experience. Related experience may include work involving pipefitting, plumbing, commercial or residential construction, underground utility construction, landscaping, paving, warehouse operations, facility maintenance, steelwork, HVAC work, or heavy equipment operations.

 

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Collection System Workers operate and maintain sanitary sewer infrastructure while providing excellent customer service to the Ross Valley community.

ABOUT THE POSITION

CSWs perform a variety of skilled - journey level work and manual labor in the operations, maintenance, and repair of sewer lines and related mechanical, hydraulic and hand-operated equipment. Collection System Workers are on a 9/80 schedule - Monday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 3:30 pm, with Fridays alternating between 6:00 am -2:30 pm and off work. All Collection System Workers also work on a rotating “on call” basis.

SAMPLE DUTIES OF THE CSW CLASSIFICATION INCLUDE:

• Participate in inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, constructing, and repairing of wastewater collection systems utilizing a variety of mechanical and specialized equipment including, but not limited to, rodders, CCTVs, high velocity cleaners, vacuum trucks, construction equipment, and related equipment.
• Perform a variety of manual tasks such as lifting and carrying heavy loads including material, equipment, and debris with assistance and utilizing equipment when appropriate.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain proper collection system operation using techniques and instruments including, but not limited to, closed‐circuit TV, smoke testing, dye testing, and related procedures.
• Participate in the removal and restoration of concrete and paved surfaces using a wide variety of construction equipment, hand and power tools.

• Observe all safety precautions as required by regulatory agencies and the District; including using personal protective equipment and following hazardous communication policies and procedures.
• Participate in confined space entries including, but not limited to, atmospheric monitoring, hazard mitigation, and appropriate safety procedures.
• Respond to and investigate service calls or complaints concerning such matters as sewer odors, sewer trouble, and sewer back-ups, and make the necessary corrections.
• Participate in and, upon passing District criteria, direct the spill stoppage, containment, and cleanup of emergency situations and wastewater spills, including occasional 24/7 on-call duty as Primary or Secondary Stand-by.
• Perform a range of activities related to locating and marking sanitary sewer infrastructure and underground utility lines using a variety of equipment.
• Communicate and interact with the public, local government, and other utility personnel in a courteous, professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of the twelfth grade, or its equivalent.
• Two years general maintenance and construction experience
• Valid California Class "C" Driver's License
• Must have a satisfactory driving record and continue to meet District vehicle liability insurance company driving standards.

To be considered for the CSW II classification, two years of collection system maintenance and operations is required.

The Office of the City Clerk is a service department within the municipal government upon which the five-member City Council, all City departments, and the general public relies on information regarding the operations and legislative history of the City. ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Maintenance Worker I position in our Utilities Department.  Positions may be filled in the Wastewater or Water Section. From maintaining water lines to supporting emergency repairs, your work will directly impact the daily lives of our residents. For this recruitment, preference will be given to candidates who possess a CWEA Wastewater Collections Grade 1 Certification,  Water Distribution Grade I, a Class A driver’s license, experience operating heavy equipment, and/or underground construction or wastewater collection experience.Although the current two vacancies are all in the Wastewater section, this recruitment will also create an eligibility list for future openings in our other sections – Water and possibly the Parks and Landscapes, and Streets/Trees/Stormwater & Drainage teams in Public Works. Interested candidates should apply and get on the eligibility list in the event an opening occurs in the future giving you the opportunity to explore a variety of career paths within public service. Eligibility lists are typically good for one year and may be extended for an additional year.
 

The Wastewater Section personnel are responsible for inspecting and maintaining the sanitary sewer collection infrastructure to include maintaining lines and connections, completing repairs, and proactively flushing lines to prevent sanitary sewer overflows. The Water Section personnel are responsible for planning, operation, and maintenance of the City’s wells, and water distribution system ensuring a safe and reliable supply of drinking water. The duties also include managing booster pumps, reservoirs, routine system maintenance, water sampling and the monthly reading of all water meters. 

Under direct supervision of supervisor, this position performs work in one of the sections as assigned. Employees in this job classification may rotate/transfer between the sections noted above as determined by the City and will be required to fully meet the job requirements, including the obtaining of certifications, when assigned to a specific section for an extended period of time.

This is achieved by operating, maintaining, and preserving the City’s wastewater collection and water distribution systems and conveyance infrastructure through reliable, high-quality services that ensure environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and system sustainability.  The Wastewater team is responsible for the day-to-day inspection, maintenance, and repair of wastewater facilities and assets in accordance with state and federal regulations and industry best practices.  The Water team ensures safe drinking water through the operation and maintenance of wells, pump stations, reservoirs, pipelines, and hydrants.
